Newsletter - Term 1 Week 2
Principal's MessagePrincipal's Message
It has been just over a week since I commenced duty atCronulla South Public School and already I feel very much apart of the school and its fabulous community. I have beenwelcomed so warmly by the staff and had a chance already towork with them in professional development and through frankand open discussions across the school. Everyone who I havespoken to is enthusisatic and full of great ideas for now andthe future. I have also been out in the playground and saidhello to many students, who have then used great mannersto respond. Walking around the school has also given me anopportunity to visit a number of classrooms and to say helloto the children. I have been impressed with the activities thathave been happening and the levels of engagement I havewitnessed. It is my intention over the coming term to visit allclassrooms through invitation and make myself visible to thestudents. This Friday I will be at the Swimming Carnival and Iwill be also taking the PSSA Girls Soccer.
I have also had a chance over the past week to speak bothcasually and formally to a number of parents and in all caseshave been impressed by the value they have for their children'slearning. I deeply respect parent viewpoints and see positiveand negative feedback as an opportunity to better lead theschool. I see that there are challenges and this energises me towork harder towards school improvement.
In this newsletter you will see some news about areas wherethere will be changes over the coming term. Additionally youwill have seen some changes to the K-3 pickup area. Wewould very much appreciate you providing feedback on thesechanges either through talking to me face to face, throughmeetings or simply via an email. I value all of your viewpoints. Ihope you all have a great week ahead.

Parent Information Evening - SAVE THE DATEParent Information Evening - SAVE THE DATE
This year on MondayMonday 1717 FebruaryFebruary, starting at 6:30pm in theschool hall, the school will be holding a Parent Informationevening. The purpose of the evening is to receive someinformation about how the school is setup in 2020 through aPrincipal address. Following this, parents are encouraged tojoin teachers in their classrooms where they will receive someinformation about what will be covered through the year indifferent subject areas, how the classroom is set up as a placeof differentiated learning, as well as how positive behaviour willbe encouraged, and student wellbeing will be managed. Wehope to see as many of you there as possible and ask that youput this date and time aside in your diaries. Some more specificinformation about this will be released at the beginning of nextweek.
K-3 Pickup AreaK-3 Pickup Area
Last week we started trialing a new Year 1-3 pickup, whichnext week will become K-3, in the area immediately in frontof the entrance to the hall. This undercover area has coveredwalkways servicing it and access via the paths to TrevellyanStreet and the pedestrian crossing. This, we believe, willprovide a unified place of pickup. Kindergarten students for thisweek will continue to be picked up via the COLA are in frontof the gate onto Ewos Parade. Next week, the covered area in
front of the hall will be used to pickup for all K-3 students. Alsonext week, the gate onto Ewos Parade will be closed. We arekeen to trial this and seek feedback from you as to how this isworking.
So far the feedback from the staff has been very positive andwe are looking to tweak a number of elements of it. Once againwe value your feedback as we strive to provide safer transfer ofduty of care opportunities between the school and parents.
Changes to Wellbeing ManagementChanges to Wellbeing ManagementProcessesProcesses
The school values the wellbeing of students as a pivotalcomponent of the educational journey of your children. Thisis a whole picture that includes; communication with parents, attendance, progress in learning, as well as changes inbehaviour. The school considers changes in behaviour to bean indicator of concern and as such it should be tracked veryclosely. This year, the school is taking actions to put wellbeingas a priority. The school has put Mrs Waring as the AssistantPrincipal in charge of learning support and she will be workingwith Mr Lavitt to make a number of changes.
These changes will be backed with professional developmentfor staff around planned workflows that will include triggerpoints for communication with parents. This will lead to anincrease in the communication between teachers and parents.
Mr Lavitt has extensive knowledge built on many years of usingthese modules and has seen the resource this has built asinvaluable in the decision making for teachers and parents alikeas we work together to improve students learning outcomes. We are excited to see these rollout this term and look forwardto adding to this over the year.
Another Call for Canteen VolunteersAnother Call for Canteen Volunteers
Last week we made a call for volunters to help with the canteen. The Canteen needs volunteers to sign up for Canteen duty that
1. Instigate the Sentral 'Wellbeing' module to trackdifferent categories of wellbeing across the school,including, behaviour, health, parent concerns andattendance. The intention is to substantially improveour evidence base to allow teachers, the executiveand the learning support team to make gooddecisions. The school already uses Sentral to trackattendance and this is further part of our rollout ofthis excellent application;
2. Employ a fully trained teacher initially 3 days a weekwith the option to increase this as the need arises toprovide evidence based (from Sentral Wellbing)learning support that utilises our Mini and Macq Litprograms and other resources to improve learningoutcomes; and
3. To utilise the 'Plans' module in Sentral to design andreview target based learning and behaviour planswhen needed and to track those plans closley.
3
will enable the Canteen to function to the benefit of all studentsat the school optimally.
Volunteering in the canteen is really easy, and no priorexperience or skill is necessary (there is no cooking). Mums,Dad’s & Grandparents are all welcome. We have created an online roster using Signup Zone. It is easyto add your name - just click on this link:https://signup.zone/csps-canteen-rosterYou will be asked to sign in with an email and create apassword. You will also be asked to provide a contact number. These details are not visible to other participants and will bekept confidential. Contact Merrianne on 0448657708 if youhave any questions.Feel free to sign-up for as few or as many shifts as you wouldlike!!!Thank you for your support! The P&C Canteen Coordinating CommitteeThe P&C Canteen Coordinating Committee
Return & Earn!Return & Earn!
2020 kicks off another year of our Cronulla South Public SchoolReturn and Earn program. We have 8 blue bins provided byRockdale Return and Earn on our playground which we willaiming to fill up every term. We would love to see familiescollecting 10c eligible bottles and cans (please check the labelto make sure they can be included) and putting them straightinto the blue bins. We have many local community memberscollecting bottles and putting these in our bins also - thank you!Students are also reminded that the juice cans and flavouredmilk cartons purchased from the canteen can be recycledthrough the Return and Earn blue bins. Not only is this programgreat for the environment to ensure that these items are beingrecycled correctly, but the money raised will help us tocontinually update our resources for the gardens around theschool.
