Vol. 203/11/2018

17th & 18th November 2018

Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope.

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia!

Be watchful, pray constantly,

that you may be worthy

to stand before the Son of Man.

Alleluia!

O Lord, it is you who are my portion and cup; it is you yourself who are my prize.

I keep the Lord ever in my sight: since he is at my right hand, I shall stand firm. R.

And so my heart rejoices, my soul is glad;

even my body shall rest in safety. For you will not leave my soul among the dead,

nor let your beloved know decay. R.

You will show me the path of life, the fullness of joy in your presence,

at your right hand happiness for ever. R.

Dr. Elisabeth Kubler- Ross of the University of Chicago wrote a

beautiful book called On Death and Dying in 1969. It grew out of her

work with terminally ill people. Commenting on their feelings about

life as they looked back on it at the moment of death, she writes:

“……….they saw in the final analysis that only two things matter: the

service you render others and love. All those things we think are

important like fame, money, prestige, and power, are insignificant.”

This observation tallies perfectly with what Jesus taught in his lifetime.

He said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to

serve.” He also said, “Love one another, just as I love you.”

The Gospel of this Sunday speaks about the end of the world and the

second coming of Jesus. It invites to reflect on the moment when we

will meet Jesus at the end of our lives or at the end of the world. It

invites us to ask ourselves: how satisfied will we be at that moment

with the quality of our service and love?

Therefore the Gospel challenges us with four things to carry out in our

present life time:

1. to be always vigilant

2. to pray always

3. to love always earnestly and

4. to do faithfully our duties

Our family, friends, relatives and our vocation is the visible sign that

God loves us. Let us personally ask these questions: Do we sincerely

try to make an effort to love, as Jesus did? Do we sincerely try to make

an effort to serve, as Jesus did? The answer we give is very important.

It could be the most important answer we will ever give to any

question.

Mother Agnes

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the death of Mother Agnes, a past Prioress of the Gelorup Carmelite Community.

Mother Agnes was a founding member of the Carmelites in the Bunbury Diocese, coming as she did from Thailand. She has

been a great contributor to mission of our Diocese, and a woman of extraordinary faith and love.

Mother Agnes discovered that she suffered from a cancer a few months ago, and was well prepared for her death.

Let us pray for her eternal rest and also for the consolation of her Sisters in Gelorup, for whom this is a great sadness.

May she rest in peace. -Fr Theo
