Interest/Topic/Theme 50

My interest is Narration for children (books) and the topic will be the interesting things toddlers come up with in their daily lives. My daughter comes up with some amazing things and weird ones too depending on what she has been up too and I feel this could make for an interesting tale.

Why is it important? - Importance 100

Narration is important because it is how we communicate and convey ideas in so many ways which reaches all demographics. Narrative can be used with paintings as they can tell stories about events. Poems, one of my favourites is by WH Auden, he told the story of the love he had for his partner within a poem. It was very powerful. You could truly tell how much he was hurting through the poem. He had the words to convey deep emotion very effectively. “He was my North, my South, my East and West,My working week and my Sunday rest,My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.”

I feel like I have achieved a lot from this course and from what I have noticed that most projects I have completed have been about stories. The Age of Napoleon task was just that, conveying a story through environments. My last FMP was exactly that, The origin story of the islands of Japan. I enjoyed learning 3D work which allowed me to experiment with narration through environment. My influences for animation stemmed from the experiment weak and the research I did into animation and the different varieties there were. I looked at Dan Hashimoto, who created his own videos with his son and adding special effects in

After Effects. I really enjoyed this. I then made my own animation in After Effects which I enjoyed too. I started to look into animation and looked at how stop motion has evolved. It has a mix of classic techniques and modern technology to create short animation sequences. Audio has also had a major part to play in my choices and influences because audio has a major part to play in conveying feelings, Audio and visual don’t work by themselves and I have learnt that use these mediums to the best of my ability and I can convey a story with feeling.

Research Design (methods) 100

For this extended Project I am going to research what interest’s young children in the way of stories.The target audience would be preschool children up to the age of five.

Skills used would be primary and secondary research into colour, language (alliteration and rhyming, simple), illustration and typeface.I will research into how children’s books are written and children’s books themselves. I will find a variety in my house and read them to my daughter and find which one’s appeal to her more and I will write down what drew her attention I would compare this information with the feedback I would get from reading other books with my daughter.

How will this research help me with my product? 200

This research will help with my product because it will give me all necessary skills in order to complete my project, I will learn the best way to narrate and to learn about how to use language and colour to the best of my ability to give the most impact on the children. The language would have to be simple with the choice of using alliteration or rhyme or both or neither.The information received from surveys would give me more insight into what children of different age ranges and genders appreciate more from different styles of books. If I manage to get an interview with an author I would hope to ask them where they started and how they get their inspiration for characters and stories. I would be looking at getting an interview with local author Faye Beerling as I really liked her style of writing.
