Kathy Rorie is a North Carolina artist who specializes in mixed media collages and paintings. She has won over forty awards and has been the recipient of many NC Arts Council grants. Her work is in the private collection of many regional corporations and individual collections residing from California to France. Her teaching experience includes numerous art classes for Union County’s Kidzart Program, Union Academy, and Wesley Chapel Elementary Schools, and adult watercolor classes for South Piedmont Community College. Kathy received a Union County Community Arts Council Grant to conduct a series of painting sessions with residents at three assisted living facilities including working with the physically challenged and Alzheimer’s patients. She has been granted numerous awards including, NC Arts and Science Council’s Regional ‘Emerging Artists Grant” and more than 40 local and regional awards including Knight Publishing Company’s “Juror’s Choice Award”, Bank of America’s Regional Art Competition, and Blooming Art Festival’s “Best in Show.” Kathy is a member of The Charlotte Arts League, The National Collage Society, and The National Museum of Women in the Arts. Workshops or Lessons Developed* All grades My Imagination is the Key to What’s Inside of Me – Students will use their imaginations to create paintings and drawings from three circles. The students will use critical and creative thinking skills, express ideas and feel- ings, plan, organize, and discuss realism or abstract art. Fractions - Students will create geometric shapes and designs using a vari- ety of colors and then explore what fraction each kind of shape represents out of the whole project. Nocturnal Animals - Students will study different nocturnal animals and draw them using squares, triangles, rhombuses, and rectangles.
