sy en haar ma-hulle so twee huisevan ons huis af ingetrek,” verteloom Koos.Eendag staan oom Koos se niggie

en sy broer op die stoep en geselstoe tannie Sannie en haar vriendin-ne daar verbystap.Oom Koos wou dadelik by sy

broer weet wie dié mooie meisie is,waarop sy broer antwoord: “Dis mymeisie!”Dit het oom Koos glad nie afgesit

nie en hy het dadelik nadergestap

en homself voorgestel. “En toe vraek haar dadelik uit. Na die sirkustoe.”Tannie Sannie lag en sê: “Ja, en

dis hoekom ons huwelik vandag nog’n sirkus is.”Tannie Sannie sê haar suksesre-

sep vir ’n gelukkige huwelik iseerbied, respek en om altyd positiefte wees.“Ek is altyd positief, seker omdat

ek die middelste kind van baiekinders is.”Uit die Houghs se huwelik is vier

kinders gebore. Petro, Evert, Carolen Klein Koos se geboortes wordsteeds deur die Houghs as hoogte-punte in hul lewe beskryf.Tannie Sannie en oom Koos het

nou al tien kleinkinders en lag nettoe daar oor agterkleinkindersuitgevra word.“Nee jong, ek is darem nog glads

te jonk om nou al ’n oumagrootjiete wees.“Gelukkig het die getroude

kleinkinders besluit om nog eers ’nbietjie te wag,” sê tannie Sannie.Sy voeg by dat sy ook baie lief is

vir elkeen van haar skoonkinders.

“O jong, hulle kan my kwaadmaak ook, maar dan lag ons weeren ek bly baie lief vir hulle.”Op die vraag watter raad hulle vir

jong ouers het, het oom Koosgeantwoord dat hy weens sy werkmaar min by die huis was en tannieSannie die meeste van die groot-maakwerk gedoen het.Tannie Sannie sê sy het haarself

altyd voorgestel sy is self ’n kind enprobeer dink hoe sy in daardiesituasie sou optree.“Jy moet redeneer soos hy sou

redeneer en dan maar net die regteopvoeding en leiding probeer gee.”Oom Koos kyk na haar met oë vol

toewyding en sê: “My vrou se handeen kos staan vir niks verkeerd nie.”Oom Koos het al die jare vir die

Spoorweg gewerk voordat hy in 1992afgetree het en hulle in Lamprechts-drift kom woon het.Toe oom Koos en tannie Sannie 40

jaar getroud was, het oom Koos virhaar ’n pragtige brief geskryfwaarin hy haar vir die 40 huweliks-jare bedank.“Ek het só gehuil en gehuil toe ek

die brief gekry het en nou kan ekskaars glo nog tien jaar is verby,”het tannie Sannie gesê.Hulle gaan dié huweliksherden-

Ek het ook ’n geweldige swakrekord met trappe. Ek is allergiesvir die goed. Nee regtig! Ek het alophou tel hoeveel kere ek al vantrappe afgeval het.Net nou die dag gly my voet op

die houttrappe in die huis en daarval ek hop-hop op my rug enbeland onder Z viervoetig. Ek wilhuil van die pyn. Daar is niemandby die huis om my te help nie.Ek kruip hande viervoet tot by

die ketel en ek maak vir my ’nsterk koppie tee met baie suiker.Ek bewe van skok. So kry ek ditreg om na my bed terug te keer.Ek stuur ’n e-pos werk toe.“Ek kan nie kantoor toe gaan

nie, ek het van die trappe afge-val.”’n Paar dae later ontdek die

dokter ek het my stuitjie gekraak.Ek kan julle nie vertel van diegeweldige pyn wat ek gehad hetnie. Ek sit met kussings gepropteen my rug, drink pynpille ensmeer salfies aan al die wonde.Vir drie dae kan ek net uit my

bed uit werk.Onbeholpe. Die ewige gesoek naartikels in my sakke. Dis nou ékdaardie.

SLEUTELS. Trappe, sigaretaanste-kers. Laaiers om jou selfoon ofrekenaar se battery te laai. Penne.Notaboeke. Lipstick in die hand-sak. ’n Beker tee (of koffie). ’nPen.Dit klink seker nou vir jou na

’n baie deurmekaar storie en jywonder seker: “Nou wat het alhierdie goed met mekaar tedoen?”Dit is my ewige noodlot van

soek na artikels en my ewigeonbeholpe manier om dinge tedoen.Elke dag as ek kantoor toe gaan

is my skootrekenaar en myhandsak netjies gepak vir die dag.Ek weet waar alles is, tot mypenne en my kam vir my hare.Ek is ’n georganiseerde mens.

Ek hou van orde. Maar soos diedag op kantoor verloop, so wordiets uit my handsak gehaal en danuit haastigheid sommer net weerteruggegooi. Daar is nie tyd virorde handhaaf nie.Ek weet ek het my selfoon

laaier ook in my skootrekenaar sesak gepak, maar o wee, as ek

Wat doen ’nmens dan met die skole wat elkejaar swak uitslae het? Dank ’nmens eenvoudig die onderwysersaf of raak ’n mens eerder van diehoof ontslae?Nie een van hierdie opsies gaan

die probleem oplos nie.Baie probleme staar onderwy-

sers in die gesig. In die laerskool,en veral in die grondslagfase,werk onderwysers met kinderswat fetale alkohol-sindroom het,kinders wat weens jare langewanvoeding nie na behoreverstandelik ontwikkel het nie enkinders wat geen stimuleringgehad het voor gr. O nie. In diehoërskool weer kom onderwyserste staan voor kinders wat jaar nájaar deurgesit is sonder dat hullewerklik die werk baasgeraak het.En die grootste struikelblok is diegroot klasse. Geen kind kan nabehore leer as hy een van 45kinders in ’n klas is nie.Daarby maak ouers ook nie

onderwysers se taak makliker nie.Ouers kraak baie maklik ’n

onderwyser voor die kind af enondermyn so alle vorme vangesag. Daarby word dissipline niemeer by die huis ingeskerp nie,wat ook die onderwyser se taakbemoeilik. En watter ouers helpnog smiddae hul kinders methuiswerk en versterk só dieonderwyser se hand?Om die onderwys in Suid-Afrika

reg te ruk gaan beslis ’n spanpo-ging verg.Onderwysers, ouers en die

departement gaan moet hande vaten saamwerk en nie meer net namekaar vinger wys nie.

Geroep om vissersvanmense te wees

MARKUS 1:14-20 – Ek sal jullevissers van mense maak.Jesus se roeping lê beslag op ’n

mens se hele lewe. Om Jesus tevolg beteken alle aspekte van joulewe moet uit jou verhouding metJesus verstaan word. Alles in joulewe staan in diens van Jesus sestrategie om jou as ’n visser vanmense te gebruik.Paulus is ’n voorbeeld hiervan.

Hy het sy lewe gegee ter wille vandie evangelie, want op pad naDamaskus ontmoet hy dié Jesuswat hy vervolg het.En van dié oomblik af getuig

Paulus dat wat eers vir hom ’nbate was, nou waardeloos is. Hybeskou alles as waardeloos, wantom in ’n verhouding met Jesus teleef oortref alles (Fil. 3:7-11).Uit hierdie geloofsverhouding

was dit Paulus se lewenslangeroeping om ’n visser van mense tewees. Maar dat dit hom gekos het,is nie te betwyfel nie (2 Kor. 5:11).Hy was in die tronk, is gegesel enmet stokke geslaan.Nietemin was dit vir hom goed

en reg, want dit het gegaan oorJesus wat hom geroep het. Dit is’n voorreg om saam met ander ’nvolgeling van Jesus te wees.

Hoe lyk dit prakties wanneer ’nmens leef as ’n visser van mense?’n Visser leef anders as die

gemiddelde mens, soos Jesus onsleer om te doen. Vissers vanmense verstaan hulself as gestuur-des van die Here – na hul gesinne,bure, gemeenskappe, die wêreld.’n Visser van mense gebruik

woorde om oor God se werk inJesus te getuig. Dit is iemand watgetuig van die hoop in ons enander uitnooi om Jesus na te volg.Om visser te wees veronderstel

per definisie ’n bereidheid om dieself te verloën, jou kruis op teneem en Jesus te volg.Vissers vind hul lewensdoel en

lewensin in ’n verhouding metGod, en in God se roeping vir onslewe. Rick Warren sluit in ThePurpose Driven Life hierby aan:“What on earth am I here for?”Hy antwoord dat die doel van dielewe oor God gaan.“If you want to know why you

were placed on this planet, youmust begin with God. You wereborn by his purpose and for hispurpose.”

EDUCATION is one of the key areas thatthe Gamagara Development Forum (GDF)focuses on and that is why it has investedR3,5 million into the bursary scheme.A Bursary Award Ceremony was held on

16 January 2015 at the SIOC-CDT Auditori-um. The purpose of the event was to award29 students from the Gamagara LocalMunicipality (GLM) with bursaries.The GDF established the bursary scheme

to support students in the GLM jurisdictionfrom 2013 onwards. This Bursary Fundaims to provide undergraduate bursaries tofinancially disadvantaged youth who showacademic potential.For the year 2014, GDF funded 24

students, and for the academic year 2015,GDF will fund a total of 49 students tostudy for careers of their choice. Thebursary covers tuition fees, accommodationand books. It also gives monthly stipends.Marco Marks, the GDF intern in the

welfare, humanitarian and healthcare unit,did an excellent job as the programmedirector.Tebogo Sam Bodumele, the project

manager for education and skills develop-ment, welcomed all the students and

introduced the guests.He stated that education was the key to

success and he encouraged the bursarystudents that once they had completedtheir studies they had to come back to theGLM to plough back the skills they hadacquired.Ivan Steenkamp, senior project manager,

told the students that GDF was investing inthem. “They must have courage, they mustknow their purpose in life and let theirstudies encourage them to do more withtheir lives.”The GDF staff told the learners that if

they spent most of their time not studying,they will not reap the rewards. But if theystudied hard and worked hard, they wouldreap the positive rewards.They encouraged the students to know

themselves, their strengths and weaknes-ses, and to capitalise on their strengths andwork on their weaknesses.Steenkamp also reminded the students

that they would not be doing this foranyone else, but for themselves.The GDF’s main focus is on education for

young people, so they can take up leader-ship and change the world.

national youth development programmethat teaches life skills and promotesholistic development of marginalisedyouth through the medium of music,dance and life skills.The development of youth in

Tsantsabane is affected by increasingsocial ills within the community, leavingthem exposed to challenges such asgangsterism, violence and substanceabuse.The Kolomela Mine, and the Tsantsa-

bane Field Band, addresses thesechallenges by empowering the local

youth through life skills in the form ofmusic.The Kolomela Mine has been suppor-

ting the field band since 2013 andthrough this partnership, the Tsantsaba-ne Field Band has been sponsored withbrandnew musical instruments, recei-ving marimbas, base drums, tri-toms,snares, cymbals and branded T-shirts.The performance of the field band has

been exceptionally well. They haveparticipated in numerous festivalsregionally and nationally for the pasttwo years.The band is also involved with other

community initiatives such as HIV andAids workshops, supporting children indistress and access to career informati-on.

ASSMANG IRON ORE’S Khuni Minebelieves in upholding its status as aresponsible citizen that really invests inlocal community members.The mine recently presented a three-day

business start-up workshop, in conjunctionwith Productivity SA.Attendees from Dingleton, Kuruman and

Deben diligently attended their classes atthe Uitkoms Community Hall in Kathu.A total of 16 students enrolled in the

course. Charlene Steyn, a senior producti-vity advisor from Productivity SA, saidthat this course aimed to build localbusiness capabilities. They do this byproviding students with better skills andknowledge in order for them to have abetter chance of success in the businessmarket. Productivity SA also encouragestheir students to adhere to good businesspractice and principles. Some of thestudents already run their own smallbusinesses, and use the course to bettertheir business practice.Ulrich Louw of UL General Trading said

that he is very thankful for what Khumanimine had done for the local entrepreneurs.

“Thank you for giving us a chance to makea success in our businesses.”UL General Trading currently has a

contract with Khumani Mine to clean andwash their mining equipment.All the students who successfully comple-

ted the course will receive a certificatefrom Productivity SA.

The tour will run from 28January to 27 April.

motivate the youth to protectthemselves, speak out when theybecome victims and change thefuture of the country by beinginvolved in creating bettercommunities for themselves.

She will also be adding prisonsto this list as she believes thatthe perpetrators are people whohave often been victims them-selves.

Chapman is a proud ambassa-dor and board member of EpicFoundation, which was foundedby Alta McMaster at the begin-ning of 2013.

CURRO Kathu held their firstannual athletics day on 23January at the Sivos SportGrounds in Kathu.

The event called the CurroKathu Mini-Olympics.

The school selected a compre-hensive selection of events inwhich the students couldcompete.

All the students and teachersagreed that the day could belabelled a success and that theylook forward to the next Curroevent.

DIE Aveng-Sishen-rugbyspan het onlangs’n oefenwedstryd teen die Shimlas vandie Universiteit van die Vrystaat (UV) seVarsitybekerspan gespeel ter voorberei-ding vir die Cell C-gemeenskapsbeker.

Die spanne het mekaar Saterdag op ’nsnikhete dag op GWK-park in Kimberleydie stryd aangesê.

Die Sishen-span het veral daaropgefokus om sy spelerkombinasies enspelpatrone te oefen. Die wedstryd wasvir die span ’n goeie geleentheid om syvlak van fiksheid en taktiek teen ’n veeljonger universiteitspan te meet.

Die Shimlas het die wedstryd met 90-14gewen.

“Ek is tevrede met die manne sedeursettingsvermoë. Die twee drieë wat

deur Sishen gedruk is, het van goeiespel gekom waar die bal vir meer as tienfases in ons besit gebly het. Dit is nooitlekker om so ’n telling teen jou span tekry nie, maar dit was dalk ook nodig omons te help konsentreer op ons voorbe-reiding,” sê Regardt Dreyer, afrigter vanSishen.
