We pray for sick and housebound parishioners during Wednesday Eucharistic Adoration. Holy Communion is taken to them weekly by our Extraordinary Ministers. The Fathers visit all the Housebound during Advent and Lent, and at need, for the Sacraments of Confession and Anointing. Please tell the Parish Office of anyone who needs visiting by a priest.

GOING INTO HOSPITAL: If you, a family member, or Catholic friend, are going into hospital, it is important to ensure that the Catholic Chaplain knows you’re there, that your religion is recorded as ‘Catholic’ on your admission papers, and that you ask to be visited by the Catholic Chaplain.

Please also let the Parish Office know that you’re in hospital, so that we can pray for you, and that your own Priests can visit for pastoral care. Political correctness now prevents this, unless we know your ward, date of birth, or address. If you’re not yet registered on the Parish Census, it’s important to do this too. Forms are at the back of the church.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION preparation begins very soon. Application forms will be available from next weekend – only from a Priest, and only after Sunday Masses (or 5pm Saturday Vigil Mass). Parents of children in School Year 3 (or above) need to collect a form, and return it no later than Sunday 17th September. You’ll then receive an invitation to the Parents’ Introductory session, and details of the programme, which runs here on Saturday mornings. THINKING ABOUT BECOMING A CATHOLIC? just curious about Catholicism, or wanting to refresh or develop your Catholic Faith? Talk with one of the Fathers or Brothers, and then come to the Evangelium programme on Monday evenings (7:30pm – 9pm) starting in September. If you know of someone who might be interested in the Faith, bring them to Sunday Mass, and introduce them to one of the Fathers.

THE ORATORIAN COMMUNITY

THE FATHERS AND BROTHERS OF THE ORATORY invite to a September Summer “Thank-You” Barbecue all those currently active in our Parish as Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy Team, Administrators, Altar Servers, Bell-ringers, Catechists, Cleaners, Collection Counters, Fellowship Group, Flower Arrangers, Gardeners, Handymen, Musicians, Readers, Schola and Choirs, Sunday Coffee-Makers, Welcomers, Youth Ambassador, etc. Keep the middle two Saturdays of September free, and await your invitation.

There will then be meetings, in the following few weeks, for some of these groups to reflect on good practice, and for refresher training, as well as considering inevitable requirements for child protection, health and safety issues, and other legal responsibilities, and pastoral concerns.

DAILY MAXIMS OF SAINT PHILIP NERI – Founder of the Oratory: St Philip Neri encouraged his spiritual children to meditate on a spiritual maxim or saying every day. These Maxims were eventually arranged so there’s one for every day of the year. The Sacred Art Series is promoting these excellent spiritual sayings of our Founder through Email, Facebook and Twitter. (All 365 are available at their blog.) We encourage all our Parishioners to adopt this daily spiritual practice to develop your faith in the spirit of St Philip.

Sun 27 Aug: We must not omit our ordinary devotions for every trifling occasion that may come in the way, such as going to Confession on our fixed days, and particularly attending Mass on weekdays. If we wish to go out walking, or anything of that sort, let us make our Confession, and perform our usual spiritual exercises first, and then go.

Mon 28 Aug: It is very useful for those who read the Word of God, and give themselves up to prayer, also to read the works of authors whose names begin with S, such as Saint Augustine, Saint Bernard, etc!

Tue 29 Aug: Nothing more glorious can happen to a Christian, than to suffer for Christ.

Wed 30 Aug: There is no surer or clearer proof of the love of God than adversity.

Thu 31 Aug: When God intends to grant us any particular virtue, it is His way to let us be tempted to the opposite vice.

Fri 1 Sep: Persons who live in the world should persevere in coming to Church to hear sermons, and read spiritual books, especially the Lives of the Saints.

Sat 2 Sep: When temptation comes, we should remember the sweetnesses we have had in prayer at other times, and we will thus easily master the temptation.
