CONCEPT –• Transform an outdated restaurant in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh’s
theatre district into a trendy spot that goes from lunchtime to showtime
• Use bold color s, sharp contrasts, and motion to draw in customers
OPTION 1/CHOSEN SELECTIONS –• Red, gold, and green colors and rich textures represent a sophisticated and upbeat modern style
• Motion is expressed through textile patterns for various seating options
• Paint colors coordinate with textiles and provide strong visual interest
• Tabletop veneers will be varied and contrasted in custom tabletop designs

CONCEPT –• Maarten Baas, a famous designer from the Netherlands
• Create a captivating exhibition space in European Parliament Building of Strasbourg, France
• Showcase his “Where There’s Smoke” line, where he sought to breathe new life into classics
using fire and epoxy; perfection and functionality within complete imperfection
• Design that complements the subject’s unique, independent thought
• Square Footage: Approximately 525 SF
DESIGN SOLUTIONS–• Warm toned wall panels and red fluorescent recessed floor lights create the feeling of
being amongst the flames
• Interactive spaces for sitting in the "Smoke Chair" and “Nelson Bench” (commissioned for
exhibition) give visitors a personal connection to his work
• Suspend chairs over flames in the center as if they were floating ashes; creates a focal point
• Movie running on television shows the designer's background and creative process
