PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome back!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone backto a great Term 3!
Staff Development Day
Thank you to all parents and carers for making alternativearrangements for your child/children on Monday to allow ourstaff to participate in a day of professional developmentworkshops. All professional learning sessions were of a veryhigh standard. The focus was on PBL and Dyslexia.
Education Week - Monday 6 August – Friday 10August
Education Week showcases the achievements of our teachers,staff and students. This year’s theme is:
Today’s schools- creating tomorrow’s world.
We hope you will be able to visit the school on Monday 6August as we have a number of events operating throughoutthe day to showcase the fantastic and diverse talents of ourstudents.
On Monday, all parents and caregivers are invited to visitclassrooms at 12.15pm. We ask all parents to stay and join
their children for a picnic lunch at 1:00pm. During this timeparents will be able to visit the book fair with their child inthe library. At 1:35pm there will be students performing and aSTEM information session held in the hall. Please see below:

The school gates will be open from 12 noon. Please ensure yousign one of the Welcome Books at the school gates or in theCOLA before going to your child’s classroom at 12:15pm. Thiswill help us monitor exactly who is on the school grounds atthe time, which is important when considering child protectionissues and is necessary in the event of an unexpected incidentrequiring evacuation or lockdown. It is expected that allstudents will remain at school until the end of the day.
Kariong Mountains Learning Community ‘Day ofExcellence’: Wednesday 8 August
Parents and community members are invited to attend theKariong Mountains Learning Community ‘Day of Excellence’at Kariong Mountains High School which is being held in theschool hall. There will be performances from a number ofstudents from Somersby PS, Peats Ridge PS, Kulnura PS,Central Mangrove PS, Kariong PS and Kariong Mountains HighSchool. Our choir and senior dance group will be performing.The ‘Day of Excellence’ commences at 11.15am and will finishat 1:00pm.

EDUCATION WEEK INFORMATION 2018
PEER SUPPORT - WEEK 1We commenced our Peer Support lessons this week. Thewhole school participates in Peer Support for 30 minutes eachweek. Peer leaders facilitate a small group of 8-10 youngerstudents, who work together through a number of structuredactivities. Each teacher will supervise 2-3 groups in theirclassroom. This year, our school is working on a module calledLiving Positively helping us explore the concept of optimism.The module runs for 8 sessions. Our first session enabled theYear 6 leaders to get to know everyone in their group, agreeingon how they will work well together and interact co-operativelywith others. They also began to think about what it means
to be optimistic. We encourage you to talk to your childrenabout Peer Support every week, as it will help to reinforce theconcepts learned in each session.
SPORT REPORTGood luck to Kiara G who is competing today at the NSWPSSAPrimary Cross Country Championship at Sydney MotorsportPark. KPS is very proud of your achievements. We are lookingforward to hearing all about it!
Good luck to the Year 3 boys and girls competing in the OzTagGala Day next Tuesday 31 July.
Good luck to the senior boys and girls touch football teams whocompete in a NSWPSSA Knockout Gala Day next Friday 3 Aug.
BOOK FAIR
Our Scholastic Book Fair will be held in Education Week, thisterm, from Monday 6 August until Friday 10 August 2018. Thelibrary will be open for sales from 8:25-8:55am, 1:00-1:35pmand 3:00 – 4:00pm. Please come along and support our bookfair.
FAMILY CHALLENGE COMPETITIONThis year the theme for FAMILY CHALLENGE will be FINDYOUR TREASURE. Students are encouraged to create a pieceof art (2D or 3D) which they might consider to be treasure. Ideasinclude but are not limited to: treasure boxes, ships, masks,bowls, books, maps, jewels (no real ones), coins and pots.Artworks will be displayed on top of shelves so please don’tmake your creations too big. Entries need to be into the libraryby 3p.m. on Monday 6 August 2018.
COSTUME PARADEOn Tuesday 7 August 2018, students will be invited to come toschool dressed as their favourite book character. Students areencouraged to start planning their costumes. More informationwill be relayed to students during their library lesson.

2018 NSW PREMIER’S READINGCHALLENGE
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is well under way for this year.The challenge closes on Friday 31 August 2018. If your childis in grades 3-6 and is participating in the challenge, pleaseencourage them to continue reading. Primary students needto read 15 books from the PRC and 5 free choice books,to successfully complete the challenge. Please access thefollowing website or see Mrs McGann for more information.

All KPS students from grades 3-6 have been shown how toaccess and record books on the PRC site. If your student ishaving difficulty accessing the PRC site, or would like a papercopy to record books that they have read, please see MrsMcGann or Ms Fitzpatrick in the library.

PSSA BOYS SOCCER KNOCKOUT-ROUND 4
Our Boys Soccer team played Valley View Public School atKariong Oval on 5 July. Elliot B scored the first goal of the gamewith a terrific top corner finish. Then, not long after, Richie. Valso scored by putting it in the back of the net.
At half time we were up 2-0. Connor L was the next to scorewith a cracking goal. After that Josh I managed to find the backof the net. Then out of nowhere, Hamish M scored a rapid 3goals in quick succession. That earned him man of the matchHonours.
The boys won 7-0. Overall, we played fantastically as a teamand it was a great win. Our next game will be against OurimbahPublic in round 5.
