PRESIDENT

On 18th March, we celebrated KR Day, re-membering and appreciating the people that make our lives in hall more memora-ble, more fun, and more meaningful. On 18th March, we also voted for the people who we would like to see represent us in the coming year. The heat was on in search for passionate, responsible leaders to take charge of various aspects of hall, to ensure that residents’ voices are heard, and to maintain the spirit that KR so proudly possesses. Pushing away fears of public speaking and stage frights, these ten managed to win the voters’ hearts and will represent Kent Ridge Hall’s 36th JCRC.

Congratulations on being elected! So, tell us a little about your role.Thank you very much! I'm very excited to serve Thank you very much! I'm very excited to serve alongside the other members of the 36th JCRC as the Outreach Director. As part of JCRC, my main role/purpose is to serve the KR community and be the bridge between the residents and the JCRC/SCRC. The portfolios under me are Flag, KRV and YEP and we all share the same passion: helping and serving others. helping and serving others.

What are some new initiatives or things you plan to do in the coming year?I don’t have any new initiatives and concrete plans at the moment but I do hope to have more of the subsidiary visits, like what KRV has done this year for the DSA children. I feel that inter-acting and getting more personal with the sub-sidiaries would allow KR residents to understand who is benefitting from their efforts and give them more motivation (e.g. raising funds during Flag Day).

If there is one thing that you can change in hall, what would that be?I would like to change the reason of some people wantI would like to change the reason of some people want-ing to volunteer just for hall points. I’m not saying everyone does this but I know some do and we shouldn’t have the mind-set of helping others to gain something in return. There’s a quote that encompasses what I strong-ly feel for – “Volunteers are not paid, not because we ar worthless but because our work is priceless”.

If you could be a Disney princess, who would you be?I would choose to be Cinderella! I don’t really support I would choose to be Cinderella! I don’t really support the idea of finding a prince charming and all that but I do admire her character and strength and I think we can all learn a lot from her. I believe that the best way to deal with negativity and setbacks in life is to always be kind and keep a positive mind-set. If people are ever mean to you, just be kind and forgiving because getting angry and retaliating will not do anyone any good. Furangry and retaliating will not do anyone any good. Fur-thermore, I think the most important thing in life is to just be you. Don’t lose yourself to peer pressure or con-form to what others think you should be. Love yourself for who you are because everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses and at the end of the day you can only ever be truly happy if you accept and love the person you are.

Congratulations on being elected! So, tell us a little about your role.I'll be overseeing the six culture groups in KR, as well as CMU and TSU, and I'll be helping to organize culture events like Hall Production.

What are some new initiatives or things you plan to do in the coming year? One of the mains things I want to do is pick up where Chun Wui left off, with the online presence. But I'll be having discussions with the K6 to see what they want to do this year, so the big ideas will be coming from them.

If there is one thing that you can change in hall, If there is one thing that you can change in hall, what would that be?I guess like everyone else, I'd appreciate some variety in our hall meals. That'd be nice.If you could be a Disney princess, who would you be?Pocahontas, she's a badass.Pocahontas, she's a badass.

Congratulations on being elected! So, tell us a little about your role.As Sports D, my portfolios include our Hall’s As Sports D, my portfolios include our Hall’s Sports Teams, Sports Management Unit, and our KR Steppers. I will also have to work with the Sports Directors of the other Halls and the Co-Convening Committee to organise and exe-cute next year’s IHG, whilst looking to fight for our Hall’s sports rights and welfare.

What are some new initiatives or things you plan to do in the coming year?It might be a little tough, but I hope that our Sports It might be a little tough, but I hope that our Sports Teams will be able to be more inclusive of everyone, regardless of sporting talent or abilities, as I noticed that it is not often that everyone gets the chance to get a first-hand experience of an actual IHG match.

If you could be a superhero, who would you be?Iron Man. It’d be quite cool to be a genius billionaire philanthropist, not forgetting all those gadgets and the nice suit of armour.

LISTENStudying with music is comforting; studying with music is distracting. Whichever camp you arein,in, take a breather and enter an alternate world of dreams and feels. With the looming examinations, we seek some musical respite to soothe our nerves, calm our souls, and reenergizeusus for another round of in-tense mugging.
