DESCRIPTION
Academics Finances Gamma Pi puts academics before everything else. We provide mentors, tutors, and other academic programs in order to help our members succeed academically. Our required GPA to maintain is a 3.0 and when our members exceed that, they are rewarded. Every semester we have an academic banquet to reward members who sustain high GPA’s. We understand the transition into college life is difficult and a lot to balance, but the entire chapter is here to help our new members succeed.

FinancesWe pride ourselves in being the only sorority nationally that does not fine. That being said, once our member fees are set for the semester there are no additional cost. Gamma Pi’s fee for members living in house is approximately $4,697 and $2,632 for members not living in house (for Fall 2012 and Spring 2013). Our payment system is through an online organization called Billhighway, and we also offer an optional payment plan for people with financial need.

Social EventsThe Kappas love to have a fun time, and have a stacked social schedule! Some of our great parties are: Pledge Formal, Kappa Kokomo, Minerva, Tacky Christmas, Oh Pat, Owl Key, Bacchanalia and Spring Formal. In addition to our parties throughout the school year, we have many socials with fraternities on campus!
2 4 5About Our Chapter
Kappa Kappa Gamma was founded on October 13, 1870 at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois. Our colors are light blue and dark blue, our flower is the fleur-de-lis, our symbol is the golden key and our jewel is a sapphire. Our chapter at the University of Alabama is Gamma Pi, and there are currently 253 members in our chapter. Fifty-five sophomore girls can live in the house each year. This early experience creates a bonding environment that serves us for the rest of their lives. The memories of living in the house are like none other during your college years, so it is fortunate that Kappas enjoy this as sophomores. The house serves breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday and breakfast and lunch on Friday.
PhilanthropyKappa’s national philanthropy is “Reading is Fundamental” in which we go to Matthews Elementary in Tuscaloosa and read to young children. Also, every year during Parent’s Weekend we hold a “Kappa for a Kure” event for the American Cancer Society in honor of Carleton Parnell, a Kappa we lost to cancer. This event raises funds for the American Cancer Society. Lastly, Kappa supports JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) and raises money for this wonderful organization. It is a great philanthropy that has attracted people’s attention all over the Southeast and we hope to continue raising money for JDRF in years to come.
