16.13 Salient Observations:

16.13.1 Engine Performance:

i) The backup torque is 2.19% only, which is very low and needs to be

improved.

ii) The maximum brake horse power of the engine at 2000 rpm was

observed as 6.7 kW during maximum power two hours test.

iii) The specific fuel consumption corresponding to max power was

recorded as 295 g/kWh against declared value of 270 g/kWh. This

should be looked into. iv) The pressure release setting and minimum permissible pressure of

lube oil pump is specified as 215 kPa and 2.5 kPa respectively. This

should be looked into.

16.13.2

Rotary shaft performance:

i) The maximum rotary shaft power was measured as 5.7 kW.

ii) The rotary power at rated engine speed was measured as 5.7 kW.

16.13.3

Drawbar performance test:

i) The power tiller developed 4.9 kW Power during drawbar

performance test in H1 gear corresponding to 15% wheel slip.




16.13.4 Mechanical Vibration:

The amplitude of mechanical vibration on maximum controls /

measuring points of the power tiller exceeded the limit of 100 micron.

It should be dampened down to improve operational comfort and life

of the components.

16.13.5

Noise measurement:

Max. Noise at operator’s ear level and by stander’s position was

observed as 94 dB (A) and 82 dB (A). The noise observed at

operator’s ear level is more than the limit specified by IS: 12239

(Part 3) – 1988. This should be looked into.

16.13.6

Haulage test

16.13.6.1 The power tiller was recommended for haulage test with a trailer of

gross mass of 1.0 tonne

16.13.6.2 Distance traveled per litre was observed 12.19 to 12.49 km.

16.13.6.3 Specific fuel consumption was observed 80.06 to 82.03 cc/km/ton

16.13.7 The chemical composition of the blades does not conform, in full, to IS: 6690-1981.

16.13.8 The Hardness of the blades does not conform, in full, to IS: 6690-

1981.

16.13.9 As per IS: 12239 (Part 3) – 1988, “maximum safe speed” with trailer

is required to be specified by the manufacturer. Necessary action may

be taken in this regard.

16.13.10 As per IS: 12239 (Part 3) – 1988, balancing mass to be added to

achieve correct weight balance of the power tiller with various

attachments should be recommended by the manufacturer in the operator manual. This may be examined for compliance.

16.13.11 Provision of spark arresting device may be considered for

incorporation in the exhaust system.

16.14

General observation:

The handle grip does not meet the requirement of IS: 11858 – 1986.

This may be looked into for compliance.

16.15

Maintenance / Service problems:

No noticeable maintenance / service problem was observed during the

test. Provision for draining of sediments/water in fuel tank may be

provided to check contamination/impurities in fuel.
