Pallavi is the sprout or bud in the comparison of a song with a tree. It is in most cases the first section of a song, which may be repeated again after the Anupallavi and Charanam. It is usually short (1-2 lines). Pallavi is the thematic line of the song and responsible for setting the mood.

Anupallavi is usually the second section of a song, after the Pallavi and before the Charanam, often of 2 lines. After this, the Pallavi is repeated. Since Anu means small, this is like a small pallavi. The Anupallavi is often considered optional by certain composers. It enhances the mood set by Pallavi.

Charanam literally means "foot" and it is the root of the song (which is like a tree). This is the end section of a song, sung after the pallavi and anupallavi. A song may have multiple Charanams. Usually the Charanam is the 3rd stanza. However some songs have no Anupallavi, and the Charanam is then the second, and is called a Samashti charanam. Charanam is often the concluding portion of the song.

The singer of this song wishes a bride and tells how a wife should be or how a man expects his wife to be (or may be how the bride must be to her husband). He narrates this through his personal experiences. If you watch the video of this song, most of the visuals are ironic to the lyrics which mean that he did not get a wife as he expected.
