Healthy Harold and the LIFE

EDUCATION VAN are back at

NPS

For the next week Healthy

Harold will be sharing his

messages of good health and

active life style choices for the girls and boys in

Kindergarten to Year 6. This is a supported event

for NPS. All children will participate with their class

groups and teacher as part of Personal

Development, Health and Physical Education

(PDHPE).

RAGE and Mission Australia in Stage 3

Stage 3 and our Community Team are ‘RAGEing’ happy this week! The

students and staff are excited to be working in small groups across their

Stage to greater understand their emotions. Mission Australia is one of

NPS’s community partners and this term the team is facilitating RAGE – an

emotions program assisting students to understand anger. Together they

will be looking at strategies for dealing with negative emotions, accepting

emotions as healthy and when, where and why we feel emotions by

focusing on the following themes:

The Many Faces of Anger,

the 4T’s Anger Cycle,

Healthy Expressions of Anger,

Getting Through the Guilt of Anger and

Relaxation, Exercise and Diet.

The program operates for 6 weeks enhancing our Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)

programs. RAGE is the first of our wellbeing programs for

2018.

Staff update

Mrs Sharron Walsh, a long time teacher at NPS, has been appointed to

us in a permanent capacity. Mrs Walsh has been a member of our

teaching team for nine years. Mrs Walsh is very experienced, teaching

across K-2 and 3-6, and is incredibly passionate about children and their

learning. She has a vast skill set in relation to the curriculum and deeply understands the welfare of students. I

would like to officially welcome and congratulate Mrs Walsh on her appointment to Narromine Public School.

New and Exciting Canteen Menu

Naomi and the canteen committee have created a new exciting and enjoyable menu for lunches and recess Monday

to Friday, with daily specials.

Our canteen TASTEBUDS is accredited through the Healthy School Canteen Program enhancing the eating at school

experience for our students and staff. Please support our P&C operated canteen - TASTEBUDS, where the food is

healthy and yummy.

School Zone Traffic Offences

To help schools keep the school zone safer for all pedestrians and drivers there are seven new traffic infringements

with new fines. None of the seven offences attract demerit points when committed elsewhere on the road but in a

school zone they each come with two points.

All updated school zone offences can be located through Roads and Maritime:

http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/documents/roads/safety-rules/demerits-school.pdf February 2018

The changes are:

1. Stopping in intersection - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone they will receive a

penalty of $439 and 2 demerit points.

2. Stop within 20m of intersection (traffic lights) - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone

they will receive a penalty of $439 and 2 demerit points.

3. Stop within 10m of intersection (no traffic lights) - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school

zone they will receive a penalty of $439 and 2 demerit points.

4. Stop near bicycle crossing lights - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone they will

receive a penalty of $439 and 2 demerit points.

5. Obstruct access to ramp/path/passageway - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone

they will receive a penalty of $330 and 2 demerit points.

6. Not parallel park in the direction of travel - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone

they will receive a $330 fine and 2 demerit points.

7. Parallel park close to dividing line - Under the changes if a driver commits this offence in a school zone they will

receive a $330 fine and 2 demerit points.

Family Literacy Challenge

Welcome back to the challenge you have all been waiting for…. The 2018 Family Literacy Challenges. You will need to get a family team together to complete the challenges. There will be a box in the front office to submit your entries. To collect the prize you need to make sure you have one name of a family member per entry. For example: The Gill family – Fraser Gill 3/4EG

The Challenges

Kindy-Year 2: How many words can you make from the word ‘teacher’? List them!

Stage 2 (Year 3-4): Write down as many homophones as you can think of and draw a little picture to match.

Stage 3 (Year5-6): Write down as many synonyms for the word ‘comprehension’ as you can.

Life Education

NPS students have been lucky enough to have Life Education visiting our school this

week. Life Education works in partnership with schools to deliver PDHPE outcomes.

Research shows that well designed schools-based health education programs play an

important role in helping children develop the skills needed to make informed

decisions. The Life Education Van allows children to explore creative and collaborative

learning in a space that is entirely different from a traditional classroom. Children are

encouraged to participate and learn through engaging education experiences, which

we believe bring out the best in all children. Specially trained educators present vital

health and safety messaging through tactile and multisensory activities. Each session

is designed to intrigue and excite children of all ages, which captures their imagination

and has a lasting impact! Life Education is FREE for our students; NPS covers the costs

involved to ensure that ALL of our children participate in this fantastic educational

experience.
