The 39th Annual CCA Competitive Exhibition are on display February 13 through March 28, representing
local and regional artists, 18 years and older. All juried works are displayed in the HAMPTON
GALLERY (First Floor , Main Gallery) and all other accepted works are displayed in THE KENNETH &
KRISTI BLIZZARD GALLERY (First Floor ) and MINGES GALLERY & RAYNER GALLERY (Second Floor Galleries). Four (4) Cash Place Awards and six (6) Non-cash Merit Awards were presented
at the Gallery Reception held Thursday, February 13. Congratulations to all the artists whose works were
juried in this year’s event. 2020 winners include:

BARRUS GALLERY — CASWELL DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER ARTISTS — In March
we will be celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month by featuring artwork created by
Caswell Center residents. Artwork will be on display in the Barrus Gallery of the Arts Center. The
Caswell Developmental Center provides services to people with mental and physical disabilities and
has been in operation for more than 100 years as the State’s oldest residential facility for disabled
citizens. We thank the Center’s participation and look forward to showing these special works of art.

Calling Young Artists — A part of the mission of the Community Council for the Arts is to serve artists of

Lenoir County Artist League (LCAL) meets at the Arts Center on the first Tuesday of the month, September
through May. There is a small annual membership fee to join. The League is open to all local artists working in
two-dimensional and three-dimensional media in all genres. The LCAL has an annual juried exhibition at the Arts Center,
which runs from November to January. The goal as a group is to promote educational programming and a critique
environment for the membership. Call the Arts Center for more information — 252-527-2517.
If interested, join them in the Jenkins Room of the Arts Center the first Tuesday of each month.
UMBRELLA ORGANIZATIONS
K.A.R.M.A. (Kinston Area Railroad Modelers Association) meets every Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Saturdays
from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Arts Center. Model trains run the first and fourth Saturdays of each month from 11:00 a.m. to

The Downeast Woodturners Association is an active group for craftsmen, artist and novices sharing and increasing
their knowledge of turning objects on a lathe. The group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at
the Community Council for the Arts, 400 North Queen Street in Kinston. They offer demonstrations on the 4th
Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information, call the Arts Center — 252-527-2517

Raney is an artist and teacher who lives and paints in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She also resides in the smARTkinston neighborhood. Raney has received numerous awards and exhibited her art in many galleries around the world. She is the owner of Acorn Gallery in West Jefferson, North Carolina.
January “Amaryllis”
The Arts Center is pleased to host art party sessions with Raney Rogers, fine artist and owner
of the Acorn Gallery in West Jefferson, North Carolina, and manager of smARTkinston Gallery
in Kinston on Queen Street. Raney has been offering painting workshops at the Arts Center for
several months, has her artwork in the Galleria Gift Shop, and has entered several exhibitions
at the Arts Center, many prior to moving to Kinston. Classes with Raney are packed with
laughter and great fellowship and are a fun-filled and stress-relieving way to allow your
creativity to flow, whether you have experience painting or not. All classes are $35 per person
and include all materials to paint your very own take home masterpiece! Participants are
invited to bring wine and treats if desired. The party sessions are great for a girls’ night out,
special event party, couple’s evening, teen/parent time, etc. Come join the fun!! Registration
