The Many Faces of Brad Olson: First Person Sermons

It's John Wesley! It's Martin Luther! It's Thomas Paxton! It's Brad Olson! Brad has been doing a "first person sermon" series of preaching in character of historical figures. We caught up with him and he shared a little bit about his reasons for the series:

"First, one of our very healthy outreaches is VBS. We have to limit registration because of thecapacity of the building. I wanted something to invite our guests at VBS to come back for. Secondly, a lot of people vacation in July. I figured that a first-person series would be a way ofgoing to another time and place without leaving town. Lastly, this year Romans 12:2 has been guiding me, "Be not conformed, but be transformed,"and this was one of my ideas to transform the messages."

Brad's "first person sermons" can be read on his blog: https://www.powerliftingpastor.com/blog

BWC True Up All churches have to "true-up" their payrollwith Ohio Bureau of Worker's Compensationby August 15, 2018 What is a "true up"? It means to reconcile, tobalance. The premium an organization pays forWorker's Compensation is based on an estimate. This estimate needs to be reconciled - "trued up"- with actual payroll expenses from July 1, 2017to July 1, 2018. Read more via BWC here Fill out your form online here:

There is no paper option- this must be processed online.Failure to file a "true up" leads to future inconveniences (higher premiums, processing delays, morebureaucracy!), and thus it is recommended to do this ASAP before August 15!

Discernment Retreat for ClergyAugust 13th The life of ministry is often hurried. Often, we donot make or take the time we need to reflect onour call to ministry and where that call is leadingus next. Perhaps it is to create a new ministryopportunity in our current context. Perhaps it isto invest in the spiritual life of our leadershipteam or yourself. Perhaps it is to move on to thenext season of life or ministry. Intentional time away for discernment helps us to listen more carefully and to understand what it isthat God is leading us to. Therefore, we are offering a retreat called "Is the Spirit Stirring?" to providespace and spiritual practices to help with that discernment. Portions of Parker Palmer's book, LetYour Life Speak, will provide our guide for the day. You are invited to join us on Thursday August 23rd from 10am-2pm at the Schott Pavilion atthe Jesuit Spiritual Center in Milford for this special time of discerning God's call in our lives andministry. This retreat will be helpful for all pastors but will be especially helpful for those who are consideringretirement, a change of appointment, starting a new ministry, or simply feeling restless or burnedout. Please register through Sign Up Genius by Monday, August 13th by clicking here .
