  • THE new exciting PokWalker from the HeartGold and SoulSilver collection has finally been released after months of excitement. The game now has all new Pokmon and all new routes that lead to awesome new battles. The PokWalker requires you to walk around for points called watts. Every 20 steps you take on your walk you will gain 1 watt. After you build up all your watts, you can buy such objects as Pokmon, rare items and new places for you to journey. From time to time while the PokWalker is in hibernation, the Pokmon may react to something and show such things as a face, a musical note, a heart or an exclamation mark. Each one showing you have gained either one watt or multiple watts. The main feature of gaining these watts is to use the poke radar, it searches the area finding unique Pokmon that are very rare to see or even catch. Once you gain 10 watts (200 steps) you are able to use this radar and search for new Pokmon. The levels of the Pokmon you have found are shown through exclamation marks. If you lose the battle or fail to catch the Pokmon you will go back to the main screen, and the 10 watts you spent would be a waste.Still the most exciting thing about the PokWalker is that once one PokWalker picks up another PokWalker close by both players will gain a bonus item, 3 items can be gained per PokWalker each day.In the end the PokWalker is an extra bonus to help train your Pokmon and to help you obtain new and rare Pokmon that other trainers cant get, its defiantly a good bonus to get new items and Pokmon to beat all your friends.Sit back and enjoy as Josh OBryan guides you through all the tricks and hints to the well anticipated new game, the PokWalker .2-One exclamation mark means a group C or B Pokmon.-Two exclamation marks mean a group B or A Pokmon.-Three exclamation marks mean group A Pokmon.

  • KIDS these days seem to be crazy for the internet, online games, Facebook and first person shooters. These are the main source of entertainment for kids, no going outdoors when theres a computer and Xbox.Studies show that the life expectancy is falling at a dramatic rate, kids cant be bothered going outside so instead play computer games, blizzard designers say that kids are a major part of gaming; unfortunately they dont know how to talk to people and cause frustration for other gamers. With young kids on such chats sites as Facebook and MSN. They dont understand how it works; it leaves bad people and cyber bullies being able to stalk kids with little or no effort.Over the internet kids have no fear of talking to people, which leads to being stalker or bullied for being a smart arse, kids safety commissioner states that kids think that everyone is a friend, that theyre safe and the more friends you have are the cooler you are.A latest poll states than teenagers are constantly frustrated by young kids annoying them, which leads to teenagers yelling and screaming at the young kids or taking the frustration out on other people.Parents blame the designers for not making games safer or chat rooms with more security. Really they cant be blamed; parents need to look after what kids do. Gaming quarters say:Its impossible to stop kids playing online games, unless you give some identification which would just ruin the game.Kids safety and health are under attack from the new age of technology, its happening as we read, all we can do is help educate and keep sport alive in kids lives. Sport minister says: Keeping sport alive in kids hearts is our main key, we need new stars to keep us entertained and help kids keep healthy and fit. • EVER since the popularity of Tamagotchi exploded out of proportion in mid to late 1996, they have graced people of all ages with a piece of technology well before their time. Tamagotchi, the original virtual pet in which the owner is inclined to care for them, has sold more than 70 million units worldwide and 22 million in the U.S.A alone (as of 2008). The launch of Tamagotchi not only started the virtual pet phenomenon of the 90s, but it also branded a new toy category prompting countless pet imitators. During its peak, fifteen Tamagotchi units were sold every minute in the United States and Canada. The creator of the Tamagotchi is gaming giant Bandais employee, Aki Maita, who was looking for an easy and mobile way to look after her pet, and take it wherever she would happen to go. And so the worlds first virtual pet was born. Tamagotchi was first released in its home town of Japan in which it first braced their home shelves, and not surprisingly, sold out within two days. At least 80% of children has either played or owned a Tamagotchi somewhere throughout their life, and has been one of the most successful toys for the last two decades. Tamagotchis, even after their reign at the top, is being sold to 75% of the world and there are over 27 versions of the virtual game around the world. Journalist Zak Testa delves into the history and the ever decreasing popularity of the Tamagochi. A child playing the Tamagotchi game.6

  • Since the hand held device was invented in the 90s, many more modern editions have been released worldwide, including that of the Tamagotchi Connection, which would allow a player/owner to connect to other owners via infrared, and make the option to become friends, get married, and produce offspring. Another modern version is that of the Miniature Tamagotchi, which is about 66% smaller than that of the original, has limited features and is prompted as a fashion accessory. child. Tamagotchis, however, are no where near as popular as they were five or six years after being released and no longer come up in discussion like they so often use to.

They seem to have just disappeared off the face of the earth, probably caused by the release of much newer gaming systems that arent as time consuming and may be considered more fun to the modern day. Also, Tamagotchis are no longer sold in every shop you walk in to; instead you are left finding specific stores that happen to sell the gaming device. As much as it hurts to say this, having owned and loved a few Tamagotchis in my time, the gaming device that once had the world on the tip of its finger looks to have gone out of fashion, and I doubt it will regain its popularity ever again. All the old favourite Tamagotchi characters.7

  • MY friends first reaction when I told him was to sling his head in his hands for ten minutes. I think everyone else had a bigger reaction to my participation in the Leukaemia Foundations Worlds Greatest Shave that I did. Another friend threw his head back and laughed and my own mother yelled and made a fuss, saying she would miss my beautiful hair. But thats all it is; hair. Sure, my hair has gained a bit of fame over the years, perhaps simply because it was a mass of thick curls that closely resembles a mop, or so Ive been told. But still, its only hair, it will grow back. They decision to do it didnt come easily, although very quickly and without mercy. My teacher Mr Moody was saying one session that he was organising the big Shave day at school when I happened to mention that I had been thinking about doing it this year. Like a dog pouncing on an unsuspecting rabbit he bounded up to me and demanded me to name my price, which if I raised I would be committed to shave my head. Every man has his price and so I said I would do it for $450, still not sure if I wanted to do it at all. A second later a hand is hovering in front of me waiting to be shook.Youre on, said Mr Moody.Seconds to decide and I couldnt back out now, so I sealed the deal and sentenced my hair to the clippers. I had decided to participate late, and had exactly one week to raise the $450, which was the price I had set. The confusingly over the top reactions from my friends and family, however, ended up working in my favour, with generous donations flooding in.By Harrison GrayHarrison and teachers getting shaved.8

  • At first I just shrugged off the wild responses and lame jokes about selling my hair to a sheep shearing farm to be made into wool, but as the day neared I found myself becoming nervous. I was confused about it, I had spent most of my time that week laughing off any questions about being scared or nervous about it, and now I really was.I didnt understand, I had realised to myself that it was only hair and that it would grow back, so why was I anxious? I realised I was worried about how I would look, which also surprised me, considering I had never cared about the comments thrown at me about the mop so I didnt think I would care about how I looked when I lost it.But I did, like most school kids, care about my image, and I was worried about how I would look with a shaved head. By the time the day arrived I had done little to settle my nerves, although I wasnt too bad. The day itself went okay, and through the shaving I felt fine, with hundreds of eyes locked on me and a couple of other participants. Mixtures of good and bad comments were given, although I myself was happy with the end result, no disasters, which is all I cared about. Plus, I had raised almost $700 on my own, all given to people who need it. I felt good about it, and thats all that mattered.Harrison Gray before his hair was shaved.9

  • MOVIEW REVIEW . MOVIE REVIEW . MOVIE R DREAMWORKS Studio delights adults and kids alike with their new movie How to Train Your Dragon.Whether you love going to the movies with the family, dragons or just the effects of 3D, you are sure to fall in love with inhabitants of Berk and the adventures they have. How to train your dragon is about the island of Berk and their inhabitants. For the Viking community that live on the island, life is tough with harsh weather all year round and the frequent dragon attacks. The main character in the movie is the son of the chief and heir to the village. His name is Hiccup and is scrawny, weak and generally useless, unlike his father or any other Viking for that matter. So in trying to impress his father Hiccup shoots down a dragon but ends up becoming its friend because he doesnt have the guts to kill it. He names the dragon toothless and the two bond closely. I wont reveal too much more but how to Train Your Dragon is out now so mark it down as a definite movie to take your kids with this holidays. One thing that you have to be careful of is that there are couple of scenes which may frighten young children. Although the movie can be watch by kids older then eight I think that the movie will be too violent for kids under that age.RATING: 4/5 Stars. A great movie for kids aged 8+ Out now at a cinema near you.By Dylan Fairchild11
