Natural featuresJunipero Serra sits on a long ridge that was once quarried for its Franciscan sandstone. This setting allows for a diversity of habitats, from stands of coast live oak, buckeye, ceanothus, Monterey cypress, Monterey pine, and eucalyptus to arroyo willow, California laurel, madrone, and horsetail. El Zanjon Creek winds through the Park.
Frequently seen in the Park are raccoons, scrub jays, towhees, red-tailed hawks, turkey vultures, and banana slugs. Spring wildflowers include California poppy, miner’s lettuce, buttercup, blue-eyed grass, and Douglas iris.
Junipero Serra County ParkThe Park’s 103 acres of meadows and hills provide opportunities for hiking, picnicking, and play, as well as extraordinary vistas of the San Francisco Bay — even Mount Diablo on a clear day.
A beautiful rural expanse nestled just west of Millbrae and San Bruno, Junipero Serra County Park is close to Highway 280 and accessible from El Camino Real. Centrally located between San Francisco and the south Bay, the Park offers a unique natural location for special events.
Activities and facilitiesThe Park has two playgrounds: one near the De Anza Picnic Area, and the Meadow View Playground, featuring a double 54’-long slide.
Junipero Serra includes a number of hiking trails, including the self-guided Live Oak Nature Trail near the park entrance.
The Bay View Picnic Shelter area provides excellent views of San Bruno Mountain, the East Bay, and activity at San Francisco International Airport.
Throughout the Park are many drop-in picnic areas. Visitors may make reservations for group picnic areas, picnic shelters, and youth camps. The Bay View Shelter area includes a volleyball court.
