-JUNIOR TIGER TALK- Mitcham Cricket Club - Junior Section Newsletter – Dec 2016 Tigers Reach Christmas In Good Form With one game to go before the Christmas break there have been plenty of winning games and good performances by Mitcham’s junior cricketers. The under 12B Tigers are leading the way being unbeaten after 5 rounds and sitting on top of the ladder. They will be meeting the next two teams on the ladder over the coming rounds so the boys will be tested if they want to maintain their top position. Other teams in the top four on their ladders are the under 16A’s, 12A’s and 12C’s. Over rounds 4 and 5, Mitcham’s three under 12 sides managed a clean sweep winning all six games – well done to all players and coaches on that achievement. All three under 14 teams are currently sitting just outside the top four. See inside for all the scores and the many excellent individual highlights from rounds 4 and 5 of the season. Please take note of the dates that training and games resume after the Christmas break – these are listed inside this newsletter. Please make sure you let your coaches know before Christmas if any boys will be away on holidays and missing the first game back. In past seasons, the club has held a Family Christmas Party on the last Saturday evening before Christmas for all involved in the seniors, juniors and veterans sections. With Walker Park unable to be used we have decided to hold our junior break-up this year as an indoor function on the Friday night for all teams and families – please see inside for details. We hope to see as many as possible of you on that night and best wishes to all Mitcham’s junior cricketers and their families for an enjoyable and safe Christmas. We hope many of you will be playing lots of cricket over the break whether it’s on the beach, in the backyard etc. and we look forward to seeing you all back in action in the new year. Go Tigers ! -JUNIOR TIGER TALK- Mitcham Cricket Club - Junior Section Newsletter – Dec 2016

Tigers Reach Christmas In Good Form

With one game to go before the Christmas break there have been plenty

of winning games and good performances by Mitcham’s junior

cricketers. The under 12B Tigers are leading the way being unbeaten

after 5 rounds and sitting on top of the ladder. They will be meeting the

next two teams on the ladder over the coming rounds so the boys will

be tested if they want to maintain their top position.

Other teams in the top four on their ladders are the under 16A’s, 12A’s

and 12C’s. Over rounds 4 and 5, Mitcham’s three under 12 sides

managed a clean sweep winning all six games – well done to all players

and coaches on that achievement. All three under 14 teams are

currently sitting just outside the top four.

See inside for all the scores and the many excellent individual highlights

from rounds 4 and 5 of the season.

Please take note of the dates that training and games resume after the

Christmas break – these are listed inside this newsletter. Please make

sure you let your coaches know before Christmas if any boys will be

away on holidays and missing the first game back.

In past seasons, the club has held a Family Christmas Party on the last

Saturday evening before Christmas for all involved in the seniors, juniors

and veterans sections. With Walker Park unable to be used we have

decided to hold our junior break-up this year as an indoor function on

the Friday night for all teams and families – please see inside for details.

We hope to see as many as possible of you on that night and best wishes

to all Mitcham’s junior cricketers and their families for an enjoyable and

safe Christmas. We hope many of you will be playing lots of cricket over

the break whether it’s on the beach, in the backyard etc. and we look

forward to seeing you all back in action in the new year.

Good Luck to our Rep Players Congratulations and good luck to the following players on their selection in BHRDCA and other

junior representative teams that will be competing in early January.

Under 10’s Update Around their other games, Mitcham’s two under 10 teams have played each other 3 times so

far this season. In this week’s clash, all boys scored at least their age in runs and there were 7

dismissals achieved by catches or bowled. It is very pleasing to report the boys are improving

week on week with their effort, and performance. We have a mix of first and second year

players, who support each other in all aspects of the game.

Each player has improved the number of legal deliveries they bowl and has taken at least one

wicket bowled. Nearly all of the boys have reached double figures with the bat which is not

bad since they usually only face 10 deliveries per innings. We have had some spectacular

catches taken and we collect many run-outs each week. The boys are learning basic skills of

the game, driving (not “Happy Gilmours”) off the cone, bowling with a straight arm, and

backing up throws in the field. They are great to coach, as they listen and implement advice.

We are the best presented team in the competition, looking like real cricketers, with our shirts

tucked in, our Mitcham caps and shirts worn proudly, and always ready for the ball in the

field. In all, the boys are having fun, and are being very well supported by an enthusiastic

group of caterers (read parents).

Anthony Grace (Under 10 Black team coach)

Milo/in2cricket Update Mitcham’s Milo/in2cricket is progressing well with over 30 participants signed up for the

program. With the recent introduction of new equipment, courtesy of Cricket Australia, the

kids are developing their bowling, batting and fielding each week and are approaching each

Friday night with enthusiasm. We are always on the lookout for parents, friends or club

members to come down to Mullauna on a Friday from 6pm to assist – please see myself or

Adam Johnson if you can help in any way !

Brad Lavelle (Milo coordinator)

Milo T20 Blast Update Mitcham’s small team of T20 Blast players, Astrid, Chris, Harry and Roy have been enjoying

their cricket at either Blackburn on a Friday evening or East Burwood on a Saturday morning.

With the Big Bash starting up soon, T20 Blast is likely to be an even bigger hit with the kids

aged between Milo cricket and under 10 formats.

season and the Junior Committee would like to thank all players and their parents who answer

the call often at short notice. We have been pleased to see under 10 players performing well

in under 12 games and a couple of under 12’s have played a game in the under 14’s.
