January 2013

Distinguished Friends & Colleagues,

Welcome to the finest young adult service organization in Greater Chicago. In2012, the Junior Board celebrated its 10th Anniversary with another record-breakingyear of volunteer hours and fundraising. During the year, Junior Board members contributed an amazing 6,765 hours of service!

As a member of the Junior Board, you are a vital part of the most importantsocial service organization in Chicago. Catholic Charities helps over 1 million people in need every year. Did you know that when someone dials 311 for non-emergency assistance the call goes to Catholic Charities? This is just one example of how I am continually surprised by the many ways this organization helps those in need. The incredible reach of Catholic Charities is one of the great unknowns in Chicago.

As a Junior Board member, you are helping the most vulnerable and most in need among us. Your involvement makes a difference.

I have found my participation in Junior Board to be extremely rewardingand would love for all young people across Chicago to share in the wonderfulopportunities that this organization presents. If you volunteer even one hour per month, you will know you helped make someone’s life better. If you attend our faith events, you will depart with enriching, invigorating experiences. If you attend our social events, you will come away with new bonds and new friends.

The Junior Board needs YOU. We are calling upon every Junior Board member to truly engage and make a commitment. We need YOU to help set another record in volunteer hours. We need YOU to participate in our vibrant series of faith events. Weneed YOU to attend our exciting calendar of social events.

We need YOU to help us grow our membership. I regret we cannot spread theword about the Junior Board far enough and fast enough. We are asking you to bring a friend to help volunteer, to bring a co-worker to our happy hour, to invite your friends and family to our Casino Night, Boat Cruise, and other events. When you connect others to the Junior Board, they too can experience the wonderfulopportunities of Catholic Charities.

Speaking of Casino Night, beginning in 2013, our signature annual event is making a very exciting change of venue to the Chicago Cultural Center. The best night of the year is getting bigger and better!

I am deeply grateful for your dedication to the Junior Board. I am honored toserve as Chairman of the Junior Board and look forward to the challenge of making2013 our best year yet.

Yours in Faith & Service,

Matthew Mohlman

HistoryThe Catholic Charities Junior Board represents a new chapter in the history of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Beginning in 2002, it is an adjunct to the Board of Advisors created to invest community leaders in the mission of Catholic Charities. The goalof the Junior Board is to enable younger benefactors to supportCatholic Charities in order to directly execute their service, social andspiritual missions.

Why a Junior Board?Through the Junior Board, Catholic Charities addresses its sustaining interests—to ensure that succeeding generations understand, value, and take part in the mission of Catholic Charities. In addition, the Junior Board provides young Chicagoans with the opportunity to fulfill theirpersonal call to service through the Church. The Junior Board taps intothe energy and creativity of young professionals—utilizing skills that areinvaluable to an organization like Catholic Charities, but distinct from the responsibilities of the Board of Advisors. Most importantly, the Junior Board represents an opportunity for young people to connect with theirpeers through their own social events and service activities, all whilesupporting a meaningful cause.
