Answer: The 5 components of fitness are: Caloric intake, water consumption, cardio training, resistance training and supplements. Your cardio workout should be done after your weight lifting workout. Muscle tissue requires high levels of glycogen in order to perform resistance training. When cardio is done first, the glycogen levels drop significantly. This drop will greatly hinder your ability to properly fatigue the muscle and encourage growth. Increasing your muscle tissue increases your metabolic rate so you burn more calories per day. When you do your cardio workout, it is not the duration of your workout but your intensity that is important. Working out a high intensity for 20 minutes will reap greater benefits than 1 hour at a low intensity so speed up those treadsmills!

Lunch ‘n Learn Podiatrist kicks off Lunch ‘n Learn Series at Premiere FitnessWalking is an exercise that can be done by just about everyone and just about anywhere – inside at a fitness center or your home, or outside in your neighborhood or on local walking trails. Ashtabula County Medical Center Podiatrist Michelle Dunbar, DPM, will speak at a special Lunch ‘n Learn Series at Premiere Fitness on Monday, May 7th at Noon. A life-long Ashtabula resident, Dr. Dunbar focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of all conditions related to the foot and ankle, as well as comprehensive medical and surgical care. Dr. Dunbar will focus on the dos and don’ts of healthy and safe walking, including choosing the right walking shoe, keeping your feet dry and healthy, orthotic inserts for shoes, and how to avoid blisters, calluses and other foot problems that may keep you off your feet. Doctors advise getting at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, five days a week (150 minutes in a week), but

say that you don’t have to go all-out when you do walk. For those who have trouble moving, just getting up and walking during commercials can be a benefit – even if it’s only 25 feet at a time. The May Lunch ‘n Learn will also help kick off the 10,000 Steps to a Healthy Ashtabula campaign, promoted by Beverly Windle. Membership at Premiere Fitness is not required to attend the free Lunch ‘n Learn Series. Please RSVP by May 2nd. Phone 440-998-3488 or visit www.premierefitness.com for more information.
