MESSAGE FROMTHE EDITOR

Welcome to the June edition of the Football Gold Coast newslet-ter! Our clubs across the board in all divisions have had a busy time of year as we get down to the pointy end of the season. Our Community Cup teams are back from Cairns and per-foremed extremely well, with the U16 Girls and U14 Boys com-ing back with runner up tro-phies and the U16 boys missing out on a spot in the final with a semi-final loss! Congratula-tions to all involved, especially our three coaches Keith Gar-land, Damien Lonergen and Si-mon Pilic for all their work, plus our RDO Jason Maguire and Tour Leaders Alan Marquez and Josh Bresic for all their hard work! I’d like to once again congrat-ulate Coomera on their Round of 32 FFA Cup qualification and with the draw being conducted last week, they face a trip up to Mackay to take on the Magpies Crusaders for a spot in the last

16. We are all behind you and are confident you can do the Gold Coast proud and qualify to the next stage of the competition! As we start preparing for Pre-miership Winners and finals time it is always good to stop and remember what we are all here for and involved in the game for- the enjoyment and satisfaction of competing in the game we love. Take some time out to stop and reflect on how positive the game is and what we can all get out of it even in a competitive environment.Lastly, we would like to wel-come our newest interim board member Tony Roach who will be occupying the seat vacat-ed by John White before the AGM at the end of the year. Tony brings a wealth of football and business knowledge to the board and we are excited to see what he can bring to the table. Damien Bresic

With the business end of the season closing upon us, we are also in a busy period finalising bits and pieces across all lev-els of our competitions. We have undergone some re-branding on the Premier League and Metro League fronts thanks to our new-est partners ASN, so take a look further along for those changes!

We are still actively looking for more partners as we look to build our business profile with-in Football Gold Coast. If you or anyone you know might be interested in seeing what

Football Gold Coast has to of-fer, reach out to us! Utilise our current partners and spread the word that you are part of our great organisation!

We look forward to see-ing how everything finish-es up in the next few weeks!

FGC NEWSCAIRNS COMMUNITY CUP A SUCCESSOur Community Cup endeav-ours for 2019 were a success overall after some impressive results from our three travel-ling teams! Although we were unable to come back with any silverware, the level of per-formance and professional-ism excersised by our teams were some of the best on tour!

Our U15/16 Girls team finished runner up with a loss in the Grand Final! The girls lead-ing into the finals only lost one of their games and ran out of legs towards the back end of competition. Well done to all involved for getting the girls to where they got to!

Our 16 Boys team finished top of their group after an impres-sive group stage performance, however they could not contin-ue their good form and eventu-ally ran out losing in the semi-fi-

nals stages of the competition. Overall though great effort from the boys and well done!

The U14 Boys had a great tour-nament that again ended in dissapointment in the Grand Fi-nal but again, they could have done no more! After an impres-sive group stage and semi final win, the boys eventually lost to very good opposition who were fresh and ready for the task. Well done boys on battling for the duration of the tournament.

In order to make the Commu-nity Cup possible, Football Gold Coast needed the help and support of its sponsors to re-duce the cost for all travelling kids and the organisation as a whole. We would like to thank Gold Coast United and Gold Coast Knights for their contri-butions towards the Communi-ty Cup for 2019! We hope that

the partnership can continue as the years go on to send teams to represent our great region.

We would also like to thank our three coaches- Keith Gar-land for the Girls, Damien Lo-nergen for the U16 Boys and Simon Pilic for the U14 Boys. Although the tournament is the fruit of your lobour, the hours you dedicated leading in for trainings and prepa-ration cannot be replicated.

Lastly to our travelling staff, we would like to thank Jason Ma-guire our RDO, Alan Marquez our Football Operations Officer, Josh Bresic our Tour Leader and our wonderful physios Lucas Walsh and Caitlin McDougall for all their time and effort during the tournament and leading in. Without you this process would have been extremely difficult!

FGC NEWSCOOMERA FACE MAGPIES CRUSADERS IN 32Coomera have found out their Round of 32 opposition in the FFA Cup last week on the nationally televised draw!

The Colts will face a midweek trip up to Mackay to take on NPL side Magpies Crusad-ers United at Sologinkin Oval.

The Mackay side haven’t had the best of seaosns in 2019, sitting in 12th place 5 points above the relegation zone in the statewide competition.

However, the side have had some results that will keep Steve Macdonald’s side wary of the threat they pose.In their first match of the 2019 campaign, the Mag-

pies Crusaders held local NPL side Gold Coast Knights FC to a 1-1 draw, which will keep the Colts on alert.

Although the draw could have been much hard-er with an A-League side, Macdonald said that his side will go into the game with the same mentality as if they were playing against the best in the country.

“We could have drawn an A-League team which would have been nice, but at the end of the day we feel confident we can put together a good performance and put our-selves in a position to qualify

through to the next round.”

The Colts have had a suitable rest leading into the game af-ter a busy period for the club.

“We had a busy period through April and May play-ing three games a week at some stages so this rest has been much needed.”

The Colts will have a num-ber of catch up games in league action leading into the game and after, which their hopes of a top 4 spot remain in their hands. .

The game will be played on Wednesday the 24th of July at 7:30pm.

FGC NEWSASNGCPL AND METRO LEAGUES REBRANDEDAfter partnering with ASN for the remainder of the 2019 season and 2020, we have rebranded our Men’s Premier League and Metro Leagues. The new logo design was in-spired by a number of different elements, with the aim to pro-vide a fresh, bold look for the newly renamed competition.“We took time to put together a number of different concepts for what we were after. The logo now has presence and meaning and that is the most important thing moving for-ward,” said Mark Majdandzic, head of Media and Marketing.

With ASN partnering primarily for the Premier League com-petitions, the focus is now on their new commitment to the Metro League competitions for 2019 and an option for 2020.“We felt that the time was right to rebrand our Metro League competitions as well! With six competitions and almost 50 teams in these competitions, what better time than to do it now,” said Football Oper-ations Officer Alan Marquez.Althoug their commitment centralises on the Premier League and Metro Leagues, ASN has no desire to stop the

partnership and benefits there, with a commitment to providing anyone involved within the Football Gold Coast family discounts and incen-tives for purchasing products with the nutrition powerhouse.“ASN have always made it clear that although their naming rights extend to the Premier League and Metro Leagues that they want to be inclusive to all our mem-bers. That is why working with them has been so easy and fulfilling knowing our members will get the most out of it,” said Majdandzic.

NEWEST BOARD MEMBER- TONY ROACH

Football Gold Coast would like to welcome our newest board member Tony Roach!

Tony will be taking over the vacant seat of John White for the com-ing months before the AGM scheduled for the end of the season.

“Tony’s knowledge of the football landscape during his time in clubland and around the game will give us a great addition to our board,” said General Manager Damien Bresic.

With the current board in place until the end of this season, both Tony and current Chairman Paul Rushton are next to vacate their roles before the possibility of re-election at the AGM.

Tony brings a wealth of experience in not only the football sector but business in general. With the direction Football Gold Coast are looking to take the added value he provides will be imperative for the organisation to continue to make strides forward in the right direction.

“We have a number of projects that we are looking at kicking on with such as the home of Football Gold Coast, strategic business planning and so forth. With the addition of Tony we believe he will be able to contribute to these discussions not only from a club perspective but a business perspective also,” said Bresic.

FAREWELL HAYLEY GEORGE!

We would like to take this opportunity to say farewell and good luck to our Competitions Manager Hayley George as she leaves us to go take up a new opportu-nity with the AFL!

Hayley has been an integral part of the FGC family for a number of years now, starting initially as a reception lady and moving all the way through to competitions! Here tireless effort and commitment to helping FGC grow through the years has been unparalleled and we are sure that her loss will be felt within our organisation!

However, all good things must come to an end and we wish Hayley all the best for her new endeavours! We are sure that we will still see you around in football!
