The first team have managed to win their first two games IN May but have also lost their first two games. An excel- lent team ethic and some special performances has seen the side pull together and exceed expectaons with some great cricket. NEVER easy when you lose top batsmen and bowlers but we have got our heads down and achieved good results. The two lost games were Hartlepool and Redcar. Both could have gone the other way and ended in wins for us. Naive bang by the tail giſted the victory to Pools and failure to dislodge the last pair of Redcar batsmen cost us in the other. On the plus side there have been good performances by both professionals and the captain. MULHOLLAND, COATES and BROWN have been among the runs and wickets. Suon scored his first half century of the season on Bank holiday Monday in the 8 wicket win at Norton. The seconds have also shocked a few in division 1. Some great performances with bat and ball has meant we are by far the highest placed second team in the league. At the me of wring both firsts and seconds are third in their respecve leagues. WHILST Morgans, Barker, Vickerman, Baldwin and Fishburn have been among the runs, the bowling of King, Sowerby, Simpson, Ray and Vickerman have been a major reason for the second teams success. Rishabh Ray has been like a pro cricketer playing for almost every side at the club. U15s, U17s, 3rds, 2nds and last week he turned out for the 1st at Seaton Carew in the Mac Millan cup. Excellent commitment to the club, well done Rishabh and well done to mum Swa for her efforts in geng him to all these games. At this stage of the season he has played twice as many matches as any one else at the club! The third team have struggled so far this season and rely heavily on the players taken from the seconds. Fishburn and Barker have been the main run scorers. STAINSBY, Harwood, Lee and Ray have been the backbone of the bowling and the youngsters in the side are contribung. There have been signs of the younger players stepping up and taking a bigger role in the sides progress and we will be hoping for more as the summer progresses. WELL DONE TO ALL OUR SENIOR PLAYERS. Keep up the commitment to the club and let's con- nue to be proud to wear the baggy green of Darlington. T.D. feethamsfl[email protected] THE JUNE EDITION

  • DCC U11s

    May 2015

DCC u11s have started the season very well having won 3 out of 5 games. Despite Gemara Cup defeats to Richmond and Barnard Cas-tle, wins against Newton Ay-cliffe and Sedgefield and a conceded game with Billingham mean we are currently sitting in second place in the group and still have a chance of reaching the semi-final. Our league campaign began with a victory against an undefeated Nor-ton side boasting 3 Cleveland County players.

We have a squad of 17 players and this has given us the opportunity to give debuts to 8 new players who have been well supported by a core group of more experienced players, leading to an excellent team spirit. Bowlers are encouraged in the field from start to finish which is really pleasing.

All players have made contributions so far. Madeleine Atkinson has picked up 5 wickets and bowled particularly well against Norton and Barnard Castle where she picked up key wickets against the opposi-tions best players. Rory Jones has consistently bowled full and straight and has been rewarded with 5 wickets, while 6 year old Owen Harwood has picked up 4 wickets which included being on a hatrick against Bar-nard Castle. Skipper Jack Riley has also been a real threat and bowled particularly well against Norton which included an unplayable delivery to pick up a wicket with his first ball.

On the batting front, Oli Clark and James Bendle have scored over 20 runs and they have been well supported by the rest of the team who have generally played straight. To post bigger totals the team need to be more positive to hit the bad ball and be more aggressive with calling and running. Progress has been made in recent games though which is encouraging.

Fielding has also improved. They are walking in more regularly and backing up has improved. Catching has been mixed though. Against Sedgefield catches from Madeleine, Rory and two from Jacob Warwick was ex-cellent, however 5 chances were missed against Norton.

It has been a very enjoyable start to the season. The players are coming to training and putting lots of effort in. Thanks to Liam and Derek for the excellent coaching; Tim for the brilliant photos and our support from parents and guardians who have encouraged all the players so far this season.

    Coaching Session For Oli !

Young under 11 keeper/batsman Oli Clark

has been making people sit up and take

notice with his glove work of late. The nine

year old stumper had an exciting Saturday

morning recently when he had a one to

one coaching session with first team keep-

    er, James Dobson.

Dobbo made the trip from Leeds to give Oli

an hour long session on the art of glove

technique. Oli is making significant pro-

gress and took to the coaching very well

indeed. I think he has a promising future as

    a keeper said James.
