Sum mer 2012 Tidings Summer time On a recent Sunday afternoon while driving north on route 213, traffic was proceeding very slowly as we crossed the drawbridge in Georgetown, Maryland. There were many heavily laden cars, trucks, and SUVs, towing boats and trailers, all carrying happy families coming back from an outing at the shore. This scene reminded me of the glorious times I had spent with my American family at Fenwick Island, Myrtle Beach, and Kiawah Island. Summer reminds me of three words: revivify, recreate, and restore. As we pass from winter, through spring and into summer our souls are restored, just as the sun restores nature from the bleakness of winter, through the promise of spring into the glory of summer. To benefit from this restorative gift of God we must open our hearts to the moment. If we are tossing horse shoes amid the fragrance of the family barbecue and the happy sound of children splashing each other with the garden hose, we must listen and let His glory immerse our souls. The taste of spring's blueberries and strawberries brings the anticipation of sugar corn and watermelon. To revivify through recreational activities need not be elaborate. A Sunday service with the family, a picnic on a day trip to the beach can be equivalent to an expensive vacation to a distant venue, if our hearts and senses are open to absorb every element. As we pick a fragrant rose, a thorn pricks our fingers to remind us to appreciate God's gift of summer. After hot summer days we will sit out at dusk watching the rosy sun slip below the horizon with the promise of more glorious days. Just as children will be capturing fire flies in jars to retain their light, we will be capturing God's restorative promise of the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts. Rev’d. Dr. Nicholas N. Summer time

On a recent Sunday afternoon while driving north on route 213, traffic was proceeding very slowly

as we crossed the drawbridge in Georgetown, Maryland. There were many heavily laden cars, trucks, and

SUVs, towing boats and trailers, all carrying happy families coming back from an outing at the shore. This

scene reminded me of the glorious times I had spent with my American family at Fenwick Island, Myrtle

Beach, and Kiawah Island.

Summer reminds me of three words: revivify, recreate, and restore. As we pass from winter,

through spring and into summer our souls are restored, just as the sun restores nature from the bleakness of

winter, through the promise of spring into the glory of summer.

To benefit from this restorative gift of God we must open our hearts to the moment. If we are

tossing horse shoes amid the fragrance of the family barbecue and the happy sound of children splashing

each other with the garden hose, we must listen and let His glory immerse our souls. The taste of spring's

blueberries and strawberries brings the anticipation of sugar corn and watermelon.

To revivify through recreational activities need not be elaborate. A Sunday service with the family,

a picnic on a day trip to the beach can be equivalent to an expensive vacation to a distant venue, if our

hearts and senses are open to absorb every element.

As we pick a fragrant rose, a thorn pricks our fingers to remind us to appreciate God's gift of

summer. After hot summer days we will sit out at dusk watching the rosy sun slip below the horizon with

the promise of more glorious days. Just as children will be capturing fire flies in jars to retain their light,

we will be capturing God's restorative promise of the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts.

Rev’d. Dr. Nicholas N. Sichangi

Interim priest.

We are pretty well settled in Oak Park. IL.The move went according to plan (wonderof wonders) and we like the communityand our digs. Plus I got to spend Mother'sDay with my daughter for the first time inmany years. That's the upside. The

downside is that I miss my friends at Trinity. I want tothank all of you (and especially the Calladines) for thelovely going away party. It was quite a surprise and mademe realize how much you are my family, too.

Notes from the Children's Home Foundation

Thank you to all who were able to makegifts to our Thanksgiving Appeal, we are proud topresent scholarships to seven graduatingSeniors in Cecil county.

The Children's Home Foundation is amission of our Diocese to provide scholarship monies to students to further their education intechnical and career training.

Following the Civil War and because of the small pox epidemic in the area, there weremany orphans and homeless children on the Eastern Shore. A home was donated to theDiocese in Easton to care for and educate these children; however in the 1950's, governmentregulations and changing ideas on social responsibility, foster homes etc. cause the home to beclosed and sold and the profits were put into a foundation. The funds were to be used forvocational training, summer camperships and emergency aid to children.

Through the years we are still able to maintain the responsibility to educate those whomay not otherwise have the opportunity. Our Foundation is the only one to give scholarships forvocational training. The annual appeal is in November when you will hear from me again!

Thank you for your support!
