to listen? Creating these kinds of connections are important in our personal well being. It's far more than just having a party...it's building a trusted friendship. And, that's our own personal vaccination against loneliness.

Peace & Goodwill – Pat Medill

    From the Editor

    1

Most everyone is learning new ways to make good use of our gift of "time" to get some long overdue tasks done. Homes, lawns, closets, garages, etc., are looking better. While we miss our old routines, getting some things organized and tidied brings a nice feeling. We recognize that there is a light in the darkness, if we make the slightest effort to find it. We have been inundated daily with the Virus news...but, we have also heard unprecedented examples of kindness and goodwill...on a world scale. Our community is on top of that goodwill. Our Police Chief, the Mayor and City leaders, the WLIC President, Board and staff, Clubs, Committees, and residents have found an abundance of compassion and kindness, and have been sharing that on countless levels. We are reminded that our community is truly exceptional and we are an integral link in that chain of goodness. Reaching out to one another is not just something we should do when challenges strike. It is something we should do routinely, so when challenges occur, we have built-in strength and connection already in place. Who is that person you know that you can call when you have an urgency? Is there someone you can comfortably call when you just need a shoulder or a caring ear

City Hall Office Hours Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Welcome to ‘a new type of’ Summer. Your City Hall has been open and fully functioning during this Covid-19 Pandemic. Our Police Chief Davis and his fine staff have continued 24 hour patrolling and Public Works Director Lowman and his crew have continued the excellent services that they provide. On June 1st the doors at City Hall will be open again for walk in traffic. As a side note the Platte County Health Department would advise us when there is a confirmed case of Covid-19 in Weatherby Lake. As of this time we have had no confirmed cases of Covid-19 reported. The City has been following the guidance of the County Health Department and will continue to do so. Their updates are posted to our City website atcityofweatherbylake-mo.gov We work hand in hand with the Weatherby Lake Park Board in determining how to administer the operation on the parks and enforcement is being done by our Police Department. As you are probably aware, the Board of Aldermen have been hearing a lot about golf carts for a few years. Some folks have even bought one. People come to our monthly meetings to speak for them and we hear others speak against golf carts. So it seemed to the Aldermen and myself that our community was about evenly divided on the issue and in fact that is what we found out on the recent survey that was mailed to everyone’s home. I have had many calls and letters both ‘for ‘ and ‘against’. Personally, I have no strong opinion one way or the other. Despite the unfortunate fact that there was a typo on the return date of the survey, we did eventually end up with over a 50% return rate which is actually very impressive, amazing and accurate. All the results and accompanying comments along with the proposed ordinance can all be found on our website. You will see we had a wide variety of both negative and positive comments. However this is ultimately decided, half the folks won’t be happy with whatever that final decision is. The old adage that comes to mind is ‘No good deed goes unpunished’. I have often thought during the quarantine these last few months how much worse it could have been to endure if this had happened going into winter instead of coming out of it. I enjoy getting outside, taking in the beauty of Mother Nature in the Springtime; to see the greening of our beautiful city. At the behest of Linda and Marlin Cone, I encourage all residents to plant flowering trees and bushes when you are replacing or starting a new landscaping project. Hopefully most of our usual summertime events can happen as planned; enjoy them all safely and responsively. See you on the lake, Steve Clark Mayor

It's been a challenging start to the lake season and we wanted to take the opportunity to thank you, the Membership, for your patience during the Memorial Holiday. What surely looked to be a wash-out, morphed into rather pleasant weather for all. We hope your celebrations faired the same. Undoubtedly, we anticipate additional changes in WLIC policies and procedures as we move throughout the season. We will do our best to keep the Membership informed as quickly and clearly as possible. Here are a few items we've been working on...

    • We are meeting with other area civic leaders to compare COVID-19 prevention practices. As well as, keeping appraised of other expert data and recommendations.

    • We are beefing up Shore Patrol to help monitor for potential trespassing. We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful place to ride out the storm. Unfortunately, it's attractive to non-members as well.

    • This season, we will be adding an additional Water Patrol watercraft and engaging with the Southern Platte Fire District to ensure clear rescue communications in a Weatherby Lake emergency. And, in an effort to ensure consistency with rules & regulation enforcement and consistency between interactions of Water/Shore patrol and Members, we will be outfitting Water/Shore Patrol with body cameras. As is the case with our current Access Area video cameras, this footage will not be shared with any private individual nor WLIC Member. It will only be referenced internally among the WLIC Board and staff, or when requested by law enforcement.

    • We continue to monitor the algae growth in the lake. At this time, we believe that the filamenteous green algae will "burn off" once the weather remains steadily hot. In the meantime, if you choose to use fertilizer we encourage everyone to follow good fertilizer application best-practices. Small steps like purchasing "Low-P" products and blowing fertilizer/grass clippings back into your yard will help.

Again, we look forward to the season before us and thank you for making the journey with Weatherby style, courtesy and finesse. Together, we make a difference!

    Resident & Community News

    Noel Jones

Our sincere sympathies and prayers are extended to Ginny and Hank Nussbeck and family on the recent passing of Ginny's

father, Noel Jones, of Weston, Missouri, where he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston. Noel was a long time employee for TWA and later for Avis. He was deeply devoted to his family and will be sadly missed by all.

It's great to see so many folks out walking and walking their dogs. But, there are more and more observations that the walkers are failing to pick up what their doggies are leaving behind. PLEASE, be more mindful and considerate of the other walkers, especially since now there are a lot more walkers on our streets...and especially on the dam.

Also...remember to respect the distance between walkers and do not walk or jog closer than 10'-15'. A courteous reminder when someone comes too close is suggested. Please walk close to the guardrail on the dam and not in the street. Yes, these seem like unfriendly guidelines, but it is what we are expected to do in order to maintain basic courtesy, respect and responsibility.

Thank you for your support in keeping our community safe.

"WE ARE NEVER TOO FAR DOWN TO COME BACK."

The June 1, 2020 Meeting has been Canceled. Our next event planned is the Weatherby Lake Fishing Club Picnic, July 13, 2020, at the C-Point Pavilion starting at 5pm 'till 7pm. This is open to all Weatherby Lake Residents and Family, there is NO charge, just come and get acquainted...another great Community get together. FISHING REPORT Crappie spawn is about over and crappie are starting to move to the brush piles...alot caught on minnows and jigs. Bass are starting to move in to spawn in the shallows on numerous baits. Bluegill and Redear will move in June also, then Catfish. Fishing has been good most days, except when the cold fronts has moved them in and out. I ask all Fishermen to respect others on the Lake and Property, remember most are private docks and boats all around the Lake, this includes property owners seawalls. Lets all have a great time fishing and respect other's property while we are doing it. Thank you, Hank Nussbeck
