I can remember many spring and fall cleanups with food and fellowship. I recall the raised bed by the rectory side- walk with St. Francis standing proudly atop it. I can recollect the replacement of the old steeple with the new fiberglass one. We held a cluster wide picnic with Mass outside under a blue 40’ x 60’ tarp, in the POURING RAIN, with plastic ducks floating in puddles and the Statue of Mary put out of place by a terrific wind gust. 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Many years ago when three distinct parishes became one cluster, much has changed. You could say that “change” has been the one constant in all the lives of parishioners in Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Community. We all have been through the process of grief and loss as all our worship sites have made concessions, lost parishioners, and morphed into altered worship sites from the original three parish configuration.

The five stages of grief; denial, anger, bargaining, depression and ac-ceptance have been felt by many as we began to view a smaller parish through the losses of St. Andrews in Dundee, St. Mary’s in Rushville, and now St. There-sa’s in Stanley. We recognize that the decline in the numbers of Priests in our Diocese has affected everyone with no end in sight. We understand that some-time in the future we will only have one priest for our parish. We will once again embrace change as we look to adjust our weekend Mass schedules for only one priest. Much give and take, loss and grieving will affect us all.

It was with an endeavor to be in unity with the communities that lost their worship site that the bell from St. Andrews in Dundee came to Penn Yan. The artistic metal crucifix made in 1975 by John Fladd, found its way from Rushville to Naples and the statue of Our Lady of Grace was donated, to keep St. Mary’s memory alive, to the village of Rushville’s Historical Room. St. Theresa’s community will go through this same process to leave their mark on the many memories left behind. Perhaps St. Theresa’s cemetery could have a memorial of some kind to St. Theresa’s Church?

Some of my fondest memories of St. Theresa’s include; the Bienvenedos held each spring to welcome the many farm workers returning to the Stanley area. Only God is Unlimited

When it comes to money or income, many older citizens indicate they live on a “limited” or “fixed” income. This fact of life affects their ability to contribute to the work of Jesus Christ & His Church. However, I have known many on “limited” incomes who can afford the winter in Florida each year. Yet, “but we don’t have a sala-ry any more” is heard many times. Stewardship is, of course, more than money or finances. It involves time, talent, treasure & will-ingness to serve & to be open to God’s leadings. When all aspects of stewardship are included, then we discover that everyone is limited in one way or another. What working person would not like to have a higher income, a larger paycheck? We’re limited, then, by what our employer pays us. Some might wish to have more education but cannot find the time or resources to go back to school. Those people are, in a sense, “limited” because others in society may have gone to school longer. We need to recognize that all of us are limited in one way or another because we are human. Only God is unlimited in His commitment to us, His love for us, expressed in Jesus. Part of our stew-ardship responsibility is to give back to God in some way all the blessings & love & joy He gives to us. We need to do it in whatever way we can within the limits we all have. Recognition of the limits is important. Using the limits as an excuse is in-excusable. In stewardship we also need to allow God to stretch our limits. We may realize we are limited - but we many not have reached the edge of our limits. Again, recognizing we have limits is im-portant but only God can move us to new limits when we are certain more giving of time, talent or treasure is impossible. When that begins to happen, we will discover that with an Unlimited God there is nothing His Church & people can-not accomplish!

A formal notification for the relegation (making secular so it can be sold) has begun. The

Parish Pastoral & Finance Councils have met & based on the estimated cost to repair the church (over $100,000); the low attendance (about 40 per Sunday) & the low number of families registered at St. There-sa’s (20), we have reached consensus that the worship site of St. Theresa’s should be relegated. Repair of the worship site would put a severe financial strain on the parish.

At this time, I would welcome any parishioner’s observations & suggestions concerning the clos-ing & relegation of St. Theresa’s. During the next few weeks, I would appreciate it if you would share in writing any concrete & practical suggestions that you have. Please have the courtesy of signing or putting your name on any correspondence so I can contact you for possible clarification. Send your letters to the parish office or to my e mail [email protected]

A formal report will be made to the Presbyteral Coun-cil of the diocese who will make the final decision. Hopefully this report can be sent before the council’s meeting in September.

I thank you for your assistance & please pray for the worshippers at St. Theresa’s during this difficult time.

Fr. Leo

A recent article “Are You Going on Vacation” ap-peared in the bulletin two weeks ago. The message encouraged the use of Online Giving (EFT) to con-tinue your periodic giving when you are away on that much needed vacation. In addition to the conven-ience of using EFT it also reduces our envelope costs. To correct an erroneous statement in the article I want everyone to know that attendance during the summer goes up, thanks to our summer visitors. From a financial perspective the increase in attend-ance is higher than the increase in giving. We need help in that regard. As Fr. Leo has mentioned from the pulpit, weekend offerings have suffered since Jan-uary of this year. At the end of May our year to date giving is still running at a deficit of $21,000. As we enter the final week of our fiscal year I ask that you be as generous as possible. Thank you and God Bless each of you.

Catholic Social Teaching “Do to others as you would have them do to you. For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.” Luke 6:31-33 Jesus was speaking to that very human tendency to care about those whose lives are intertwined with our own. But to be a follower of Jesus means that our love must be bigger. We are called to love as God loves, seeing all of humanity as our brothers and sisters—the embodi-ment of Jesus among us. That demands more of us than we can probably achieve in this lifetime—even the great saints seemed to miss the mark sometimes. But that doesn’t excuse us from a lifetime of trying. The key principal of Catholic social teaching is that, be-cause they are created in the image of God, all humans have dignity and deserve to be treated as children of God. The consistent application of this very basic belief drives our outreach wherever human life is threatened.

Having served for 4 years as Principal, Tom Flood has announced his retirement. He will depart this coming summer, and will assist as needed in a tran-sition. Tom’s leadership and dedication to the school has been an inspiration to our community. He will be missed. When you see him next, give him a “thank you” for his service. A replacement search has begun. If you may be inter-

ested or know of someone who may be, Tom is most

willing to explain the job and community relations re-

sponsibilities. Candidates will be asked to submit a re-

sume to the Diocese of Rochester attention: Tammy
