June 24, 2018 - Navity of St. John the Bapst S. F!"# $% A##"#" A$’!()(# Today’s Gospel: Luke 1:57-66,80 The me came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. Her neighbors and relaves heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her. On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him Zechariah a!er his father. But his mother said, “No; he is to be called John.” They said to her, “None of your relaves has this name.” Then they began mooning to his father to find out what name he wanted to give him. He asked for a wring tablet and wrote, “His name is John.” And all of them were amazed. Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to speak, praising God. Fear came over all their neighbors, and all these things were talked about throughout the enre hill country of Judea. All who heard them pondered them and said, “What then will this child become?” For, indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him. The child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness unl the day he appeared publicly to Israel. “What then will this child become?” The navity of St John the Bapst and this Sunday’s readings remind us that God calls each of us for a special purpose which only we can fulfill. In some cases, like John the Bapst, Isaiah, David, and the twelve disciples of Jesus, the call and task are extraordinary within the history of salvaon. For most of us the call and task are more ordinary. However, we all have a call and a purpose. Like John the Bapst we have been called to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, as St Paul points out; “So we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20). The world sll needs people to follow John’s example. Egli chiese una tavole7a e scrisse: «Giovanni è il suo nome». Tu@ furono meraviglia. All’istante si aprirono la sua bocca e la sua lingua, e parlava benedicendo Dio. Visse in regioni deserte fino al giorno della sua manifestazione a Israele. BC Sacred Music Symposium Sts Joachim & Ann Parish will host the inaugural BC Sacred Music Symposium, July 20-22. This symposium aims to bring together musicians of all skill levels, and all people of good will with a general interest in sacred music, for a weekend of instrucon, collaboraon and fellowship. There will be an opportunity to a7end praccal workshops (beginner, intermediate and masterclass) and to experience the riches of the Church’s musical tradion in the celebraons of Mass (in both the Ordinary and Extraordinary Forms) and the Divine Office. Keynote speaker and celebrant of the symposium’s principal Mass will be Bishop Joseph Perry, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago. BC Sacred Music Symposium Sts Joachim & Ann Parish will

host the inaugural BC Sacred Music Symposium, July 20-22.

This symposium aims to bring together musicians of all skill

Canzoni della Nostra Gioventù Enjoy Italian music from

yester-year at a special outdoor concert on June 29. Msgr

Bernard Rossi, Maria Miceli and Tami Comuzzi will entertain

us with singing, stories, jokes and poetry. All this takes place

in our beau�ful parish garden. Friday, June 29 from 6:30 to

8:00 pm. Everyone is welcome. Tickets are $20 and are

available through Fr Gino or the parish office.

ROOTED – Women’s Retreat 2018 Back by popular demand,

Heather Khym leads us on a spiritual journey to deeply root

our faith. An opportunity for women to come together,

make new Catholic friends and have some fun together. A

great way for mothers to spiritually prepare themselves with

some personal �me at the start of the school year. This

retreat is for all woman 16 and older. Registra�on fee

includes all coffee breaks, catered lunch, and a beau�ful

welcome gi!. Join us Friday, Sept 14, 7 - 9 pm (check-in

starts at 6 pm) and Saturday, Sept 15, 10 am - 5:30 pm at St

Pilgrimage of Our Lady of Namacpacan in Vancouver The

eight-foot image of Our Lady of Namacpacan from Luna, La

Union, Philippines, one of the canonically crowned images

of St Mary’s patron saint, will be staying inside St Mary's

Parish, Vancouver, from June 29 to Aug 30. Ac�vi�es during

the pilgrimage include a welcoming Mass, celebrated by

Archbishop Miller, and dinner, novena, and a Thanksgiving
