June 24, 2018 - Navity of St. John the Bapst

Today’s Gospel: Luke 1:57-66,80 The me came for
Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son. Her neighbors
and relaves heard that the Lord had shown his great
mercy to her, and they rejoiced with her. On the eighth day
they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to
name him Zechariah a!er his father. But his mother said,
“No; he is to be called John.” They said to her, “None of
your relaves has this name.” Then they began mooning
to his father to find out what name he wanted to give
him. He asked for a wring tablet and wrote, “His name is
John.” And all of them were amazed. Immediately his
mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to
speak, praising God. Fear came over all their neighbors, and
all these things were talked about throughout the enre hill
country of Judea. All who heard them pondered them and
said, “What then will this child become?” For, indeed, the
hand of the Lord was with him. The child grew and became
strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness unl the day
he appeared publicly to Israel.
“What then will this child become?”
The navity of St John the Bapst and this Sunday’s readings
remind us that God calls each of us for a special purpose
which only we can fulfill. In some cases, like John the Bapst,
Isaiah, David, and the twelve disciples of Jesus, the call and
task are extraordinary within the history of salvaon. For
most of us the call and task are more ordinary. However, we
all have a call and a purpose. Like John the Bapst we have
been called to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, as St Paul
points out; “So we are ambassadors for Christ, God making
his appeal through us. We beseech you on behalf of Christ,
be reconciled to God” (2 Corinthians 5:20). The world sll
needs people to follow John’s example.
I vicini e i paren
intervenne: «No, si chiamerà Giovanni».
Il
bambino cresceva e si forficava nello spirito. Visse in
Israele.
