PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE School is a place where instruction takes place. Students achieve academic goals and meet curriculum expectations. It is also a place that prepares children for life, in co-operation and partnership with par-ents. The educators at Folkstone also make a place for ‘soul’ in the classroom: they integrate heart, spirit, mind and community with strong academic expectations. They take responsibility in the prepara-tion of our young minds to meet the demands of life beyond the classroom. In our Community Circles we speak about friendships, communication skills, stress management, diversity, study skills, problem solving, conflict resolution, health and personal and social responsibility.
When students work together, they become an authentic community of learners, enabling each other to meet challenges with grace and hope. We encourage students to listen carefully to others, to hear the messages in the words (tone, gesture, body language, what is NOT said). Everyone’s voice is heard and valued.
Listening and being heard strengthens and fosters the exploration of wonder, worry, curiosity and joy.
During these unusual times of online learning, our students have had to be self-disciplined; along with parents they monitor their learning, show initiative, and manage their day. They are showing the characteristics of being self-regulated and being a self-directed learner.
We encourage our families to:
Create a schedule; stick to routines Set up a quiet space for children to focus on schoolwork Treat online school like a day at Folkstone; learn some, have a snack, go out for some exercise and fresh air, be
on time, and have perfect attendance Have some physical activity every day; enjoy the sun Try new things, learn new things Stay connected; keep in touch with friends and family Share your feelings; listen to each other
We honour the quest of each child to find what gives their life meaning and integrity; what allows them to feel con-nected to what is most precious for them; to feel what is sacred in life and what allows them to use their individual gifts and talents to share with the world.
Life is certain to contain scary and challenging adventures. Dorothy, in the Wizard of Oz, is open to adventure. She explores and is curious about what is good in the world and what is inherently good in people. The Wizard of Oz is a tribute to the spiritual tradition of self-help and self-reliance.
“It’s not where you go…it’s who you meet along the way.” (Dorothy)
Grade Five Graduating Students: A Message from the Principal & Vice Principal
Mr. Harris and I would like to acknowledge our Grade 5 students as they move on to Middle School. It is exciting to see you move on in your journey in learning. It is melancholy to have you leave us, some of you have been at Folkstone since Kindergarten; some of you since Grade 1.
We know that wherever you go you will make Folkstone proud of your accomplishments. We wish you the best life has to offer and know that you will continue to be respectful and responsible citizens of the world.
Learning lasts a lifetime. As you continue your journey, be curious, ask questions, understand the connections of knowledge and how they can be used to make the world a better place.
Brampton Farmer’s Market: Stay Tuned for
More Information The Farmer’s Market is a long running tradition in the downtown of our city. As limited things have begun to cautiously open up
again, we encourage you to watch the website to see if you may be able to visit the Farmer’s Market soon. The market normally
was scheduled to run on Saturdays from mid June to mid October, from 7:00 a.m.—1:00 p.m. Here is a link to their website:
The Brampton Farmers’ Market is a one-stop shop for fresh local produce, meats, specialty items and prepared meals. Add some baked goods, unique spices and preserves to your shopping basket, then visit the great artisans and makers at the Artisan Mar-ketplace on Main Street South.
The market is located on Main Street North and South – between Nelson Street and Wellington Street. Vendors line the street
every Saturday morning during the 18-week market season to sell a variety of local produce, baked goods, prepared foods and
unique hand-made craft products. Grab a bite from a market vendor and head over to Garden Square for weekly programming
featuring cooking demos by celebrity chefs and gardening tips from horticultural experts. There’s so much do and see and taste
at the Brampton Farmers’ Market.

Folkstone Public School Recognizes Pride Month Pride Month takes place in June to celebrate and recognize the many achievements and contributions of 2SLGBTQ+ communities. Throughout the month of June, the Pride flag will be raised at all Peel schools and worksites to demonstrate that our schools are safe, inclusive and welcoming environments where students, staff and families who identify as a part of 2SLGBTQ+ communities are valued and supported. During Pride Month we encourage staff, students, families and our communities to spend some time learning about the many achievements and contributions of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities in addition to learning about their history, trials and tribulations.
