Chapter Director’s Spiel We hope everyone is still staying safe and avoiding any problems from the Covid-19 virus. Other
than the frustration of not being able to live a “normal” life, for most of us in the chapter, it hasn’t
been TOO bad, but we will sure be glad when it is over, and we feel saddened for all the
people that HAVE been negatively impacted by it, and we send out our thoughts and
prayers. I know that we WILL get through this, we (all of us in this great country) are
strong and can buckle down and work things out, so hang tuff.
As I am writing this article, we still do not know whether we will be able to have our
normal June chapter gathering in the hospital dining room. I will continue to monitor the
situation and keep in contact with the Food Manager, and if the hospital finally relaxes their quarantine restrictions
enough to allow us to have our gathering, I will send out an email to everyone. We are also looking into possible
alternatives, just in case, again, I will let everyone know in plenty of time.
Some of us are starting to get out for some rides, and I’m hearing the same from other chapters, but we all
seem to have modified our usual methods, instead of looking for neat restaurants or fast food places along our
ride routes, we are planning the rides to include a BYOP (bring your own picnic lunch). From what I’ve heard,
that has been working fairly well, maybe it is something we can consider continuing even after we all “get back
to normal”. We’re able to socialize better around a picnic table out in the outdoors, than we usually can around
a bunch of tables in a restaurant, which is nice. We had the chance to try it ourselves this past weekend, as our
first action as the new TN District 2020-2021 Couple of the Year, we attended the TN-T, Knoxville chapter
gathering, held standing around in the Golden Corral parking lot (the restaurant is still closed), followed by a ride
to the Lilly Bluff Overlook with a picnic lunch at the overlook. It was a nice ride, weather forecast was calling
for rain off-and-on all afternoon, and we totally dodged that bullet, hooray.
We had several rides on our Ride Calendar that we had had to cancel, mostly because of the virus and problems
with travelling in groups, etc., but hopefully as things start improving, we can start having some of those rides in
the near future. If anyone has any suggestions of some rides we could reschedule, please let me know.
Another positive aspect of the improving situation is the chapter’s monthly dinner ride, the restaurants are
starting to get back to normal, opening, and allowing patrons to dine in, with some spacing restrictions. So, we
were able to have our May dinner at Sullivan’s, set up by our Assistant Chapter Director, James Whitener (see
article below).
If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, etc., please feel free to contact me, and we hope to see you
at a chapter function soon. Take care and ride safe.

Assistant Chapter Director Let’s all be ready to have fun with our chapter friends when we can get out and ride again.
If you’re planning on going for a ride, make sure you, your gear, and especially your ride, are
all at their peak performance level and ready to get out there and have fun. And make sure to be
wearing the proper gear for safety and the expected conditions.
Ride Safe! James Whitener, TN-M Assistant Chapter Director

Chapter Awards & Winners from the May Chapter Gathering
Since the May gathering was done via a Zoom call, we were not able to do our usual “Star”, “Whoops”, “I’m
proud to wear my TN-M Shirt”, and “50 / 25-25” awards.
Chapter M “Out Having FUN!”
TN-M impromptu ride to Alvin York’s birthplace, May 23rd Brian Richards
On Saturday, May 23rd, Randy & Marlene set up an impromptu ride to the Alvin York birthplace, and asked
me to send out an invite to the rest of the chapter. They told us they had a good time, and below is a photo he
sent me of them having a picnic lunch at the Pall Mall York State Park. Besides themselves, they had Dennis &
Tracy, Burl and Bill as company on the ride.

TN-M Dinner Ride to Sullivan’s, May 26th Brian Richards
Well, we were finally able to have a chapter dinner get-together, our first since the start of the Covid-19
quarantine restrictions, hooray. Thanks to James Whitener, we had it all set up for the Sullivan’s in Knoxville.
According to the weather forecasts, we were supposed to have rain in the early evening, so I believe
everyone, or at least most everyone (I didn’t see any bikes in the parking lot, but we got there early, and a few,
that might have ridden, left before we did), decided not to chance riding in the rain, and just met at the
restaurant. Sullivan’s did have several tables in their main area marked off as to not use, to allow for the “social
distancing”, but they put us up in a separate room towards the back, which was set up with two tables for 8, and
a couple tables for 4. Since we had 15 members, we easily sat at the two tables for 8.
From the “noise level” in the back room, I’m sure the restaurant staff (and the other patrons), were probably
happy we were in a separate area, but the noise told me that we were all having a good time, finally being able
to get back together, and the laughs and camaraderie was rampant. Hopefully, we will be able to continue
having the dinner get-togethers from this point forward.
