The Chesterton Woman's Club will host their long-stand- ing Annual Art Show at the Chesterton Art Center during the month of June. The Opening Reception will be held on Sunday, June 2 from 2-4 p.m. Treats and beverages will be provided, as well as a series of awards which will be given out during the re- ception. Artists from Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan will be partic- ipating in a variety of mediums including painting, pastel, draw- ing, mixed media, photography, sculpture, glass, mosaic and 3-dimensional fiber. This is 68th year for the show, which will hang through Friday, June 28. The Chesterton Woman's Club is a member of the Indi- ana Federation of Clubs, a volunteer organization focused on all area of the lives of its members, their families and communities. The Chesterton chapter has partnered with the Art Center for many, many years encouraging the arts in NW Indiana. Artist OpportunitiesTeaching Opportunities

The Art Center is expanding our class offerings while continuing the ongoing classes you know and love.We’re seeking instructors to teach art classes for all ages. Course work can encompass all art forms, not limited to 2Dand 3D. This can include jewelry, sculpture, writing, mixed media, paper, fiber, along with the traditional drawing, painting,photography, glass, and more.

Teachers should have art instruction experience and a unique vision for future classes. All interested parties shouldsubmit a resume and/or artist cv, along with class proposals. Each class proposal should include title, description, lengthof class, class size limits, and required supplies. For the specifics, visit our website’s home page - www.chestertonart.com

Art Book Lending Library Available to Members

The Art Center has an amazing collection of books avail-able to loan out to members. These books have been giftedto the Art Center by members, the public, and the families ofartists who are no longer living. There is an array of subjectmatter, and many are instructional in media such as drawing,watercolor, oil painting, glass, clay, fiber, and more.

Many thanks to Board member Janel Borsos, a former li-brarian, who organized and categorized the whole collection.Janel also set up a check-out system that is simple to use.Stop in, peruse the collection, and borrow a book or two toenjoy!

The 61st Annual Chesterton Art Fair - This year’s Art Fair will be held on Saturday, August 3rd and Sunday, August4th. The application is up on our website for artists who wish to apply. Deadline to apply is July 15, 2019. Membersreceive a discount on booth fees.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Art Fair is our biggest fundraiser.

If you have volunteered in the past, mark your cal-endars! You will be receiving a call to ask if you can helpout again this year.

If you are new to helping at the fair, we have manyjobs to suit any age or ability level. It’s FUN! Booth-sittingto give artists a break, selling pop or water, or helping inthe hospitality booth are just a few of the ways you canhelp out. If you’d like to give it a try, please give the officea call at 926-4711.

Friday Morning Watercolor with Dick Church6-week Beginning/Intermediate Watercolor Class at the Chesterton Art Center starting Friday, June 21from 10-12. Dick will lead students through a variety of watercolor techniques - a perfect class for the first-time painter or a wonderful refresher for the mildly experienced. The cost of the class is $95, with membersreceiving a $20 discount. Supplies are not included. Dick will discuss supplies with all beginners to startthe class.

Ceramics with Tom CerniusBegins July 1 from 5:30-8:30. During this 5-week class, beginningstudents will develop fundamental wheel-throwing techniques,while returning students will refine their techniques to create morecomplex forms. The instructor, Tom Cernius, will perform shortdemonstrations while assisting students individually to improvetheir throwing skills. Hand-building and sculpture are also encour-aged. Students can try their hand at slab-building, pinch-pot hand-building, as well as basic sculptural techniques - includingfigurine/small statue construction. All the pieces will be glazedduring the final class.

The cost for class is $135, with members receiving a $25 discount. The cost of clay is an additional $15,payable to the instructor on the first day of class. All other supplies are included.

Beginning/Intermediate Pastel Painting Workshop with Mary Ann TrzynaWe welcome Mary Ann Trzyna as a new instructor to the Chesterton Art Center. Join Mary Ann on Sat-

urday, June 22 from 10 am until 2:30 pm.for this “hands on” soft pastel workshopfor beginner to intermediate adult stu-dents. Students will learn while painting asimple still life set up in the classroom.Workshop will include a discussion of softpastel brands and types, and pastelpaper/board options, with some samplesavailable for students to try. There will bea limited amount of pastels and papersavailable for beginning students whowould prefer to try pastels in the workshopbefore buying a set. If you prefer to bringyour own, a supply list will be provided.Workshop will also include a demonstration of preliminary studies and underpainting techniques. Therewill be a half hour lunch break. Bring your lunch, or step out. Cost of the workshop is $70 for members,and $90 for non-members.

Upcoming classes include prismacolor pencil and oil painting with Leona Jurincie.

Duneland Photography Club NewsThe Duneland Photography Club meets the first

Tuesday of each month. The next monthly meetingwill be Tuesday, June 4th. Mentoring will be at 5:30,with the regular meeting beginning at 7:00 pm. Il-liana Artist member and graphic designer MarileePopovich will be giving a program geared towardphotographers and other artists entitled "Claim YourOnline Presence."On June 12th, members of the Duneland PhotoClub will be doing community service for the Me-morial Opera House in Valparaiso. We will be doingheadshots of the actors for their next production.This is also an opportunity for members to learn por-trait photography, led by member Henry Schultz.The Duneland Photography Club meets at SunsetHill Farm County Park, U.S. 6 and Meridian Road,Valparaiso. Visitors are welcome to attend andcheck us out!

Judy Crawford has a large charcoal drawing—STRUTTIN- included in the 83rd National MidyearShow at the Butler Institute of American Art inYoungstown, Ohio.

Robyn Feeley will have a show titled "In Her OwnStyle" at the Miller Beach Arts and Creative District,Marshall J Gardner Center for the Arts in Gary,IN.located at 540 S Lake St, Miller Beach. Theshow opens July 12th and runs through Aug 4th.Reception is Friday, July 12th from 6-8 pm.

Mark VanderVinne is the host. Next Critique Nighttakes place on Wednesday, June 5 at 7:30 p.m.Guests are welcome with no prior registration re-quired. All ability levels and artistic styles are en-couraged to attend. There is no charge for thismonthly event. Thank you, Mark!

Beginning Stained Glass & Open Studiowith Judy Gregurich and Mark Montgomery8 weeks, beginning Tuesday, June 4 from 7-9.(No class 4th of July week.) In BeginningStained Glass Class, students will learn thecopper foil method, originally invented by LouisTiffany. Tools and supplies are included. Limit2 students. The cost for class is $260, withmembers receiving a $30 discount.The StainedGlass Open Studio Class is for students whohave taken a previous stained glass class at theArt Center. Open studio students will experi-ment with different types of textured clear glass,copper foil overlay, and sand blasting (etching).

Students will work at their own pace, with assistance from the instructors as needed. Students are expectedto provide their own tools and supplies. Limit 8 students. The cost is $105, with members receiving a $30discount. Both classes are 8-weeks long and take place each Tuesday night from 7-9 p.m. All studentsMUST register and pay prior to the first class.

June Cookies and Canvas

Sand & SeagullsFriday, June 7. Children ages 3-7 attend from 5-6:30, andages 8 & up attend from 7-8:30. This fun art evening in-cludes an 8" x 10" canvas painting, cookies and juice. Costis $10 per child, or $5 for members. Students must reg-ister and pay no later than Thursday, June 6.

Taught by Jennifer Martin, the goal is tointroduce children to various artists, theirstyles and techniques, with projects reflect-ing what they are learning. Classes meetweekly and are open to all ages and skill lev-els. Several mediums will be used includingdrawing, painting, papier mache, mosaic,sculpture, collage and more.

Tuition is $90 per month for after schooland home school students (the member rateis $70), and $75 for preschool students (themember rate is $55). Families must be cur-rent members of the Chesterton Art Centerto receive the member rate. Supplies and asnack are included.

Week 1: Kids Art Camp - June 10-13Pop-Fizzy Art Week

Students will learn how to make erupting and fizzy paint combinations whilecreating some really fascinating art. Projects will include pop art, volcanoes &bubbles, pop bottle crafts, and a stretched canvas painting.

Week 2 : Kids Art Camp - June 24-27Tropical Art Week

Projects for Week 2 include everything tropical! Studentswill be inspired by tropical birds, fruits, flowers, leis and

tiki masks. A stretched canvas painting will also be included. It's a luau of aweek!

Week 3: Kids Art Camp - July 15-18Fiesta Art Week

The projects for Week 3 will include paper banners,sombreros, guitars, pinatas, and cactus crafts - all inbright, vivid colors! A painted stretched canvas art piecewill also be added to the colorful mix!

Week 4: Kids Art Camp - July 22-25National Park Art Week

During Week 4, students will explore the beauty of sev-eral National Parks - including ours! Participants will visitthe Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Redwood, and the IndianaDunes, to name a few. Projects will include wild animals,land formations, and lots of nature! A painted stretchedcanvas project will round out the week! Cost is $90 perweek, with members receiving a $20 discount.

Each camp will run Monday through Thursday, with ages 4-7 meeting from9-11:30 a.m., and ages 8 & up meeting from 12-2:30. Children will have plentyof opportunities to paint, explore, create, and express themselves through art!All supplies included. Register early! These popular classes fill up fast.

Kids Clay Camp!Led by Kristy Horb

The week of July 8-11 from 9 am until 11 am.Ages 6-12. Kids will have fun with air clay,

making an array of projects throughout this week, including bowls, dogs, beadsand clay stamping projects. Cost of this class is $80 with members receivinga $20 discount.
