Dear church community, I look forward to developing connections with you through worship, prayer and fellow-ship time. While I will serve among you for only a few months, my hope is that the time will be meaningful. May we be open to new discoveries of God's presence with us. At times, new discoveries happen with change. As the seasons change with summer approaching -we receive the gift of longer days, more day light. Perhaps we can welcome intentional “pauses” amid often very full, busy days. This “pause” might even be a simple noticing of unexpected beauty in our midst. Just recently, on my morning commute- that can be stressful with (stop and go, stop and go) traffic- I saw a gentleman standing alongside a street corner with a cart full of flowers. This unexpected sight -brought a moment of joy. May you too –welcome joy that can arrive in surprising ways.

Years ago, I attended a silent retreat at a monastery. During shared meals, we would break from the silence and I think it was before dinner that one of the monks would offer a reflection. Much to my surprise, he quoted Alice in Wonderland! He shared the following: “Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” - Lewis Caroll, Alice in Wonderland This quote stayed with me. The words call forth the power of wonder and imagination as an inner resource. How powerful to begin believing/dreaming right when we wake up! Ultimately, perhaps dreaming in what can be is really about “waking up.”

Waking up to our false illusions, releasing the need to prove ourselves, accepting the full spectrum of our emotions- this may lead us to deeper trust in God's grace. What are some of your dreams? What are some of your inner resources? During my time with you, I will preach a sermon series on Renewal- “Tending to our Spirit, Mind, Body” and “Healing Together”. May we nurture inner resources and keep sharing our resources here- at UCC Burlington- as a gift for the wider community. Your participation in Crafters for a Cause, volunteer-ing at Rosie’s place and the Green team- I believe are expressions of care. Together, let's keep sharing God's love that flows within and around us. May it be so. In faith, Rev. Heather A. Lucas

MEET INTERIM PASTOR REV. HEATHER LUCAS WHO WILL COVER FOR PASTOR ANGELA

WHILE SHE IS OUT ON PATERNITY LEAVE

Rev. Heather A. Lucas graduated from Andover Newton Theological School in May 2010 with a Master of Divinity. She served as a Pastoral resident for Turnaround Ministry at Wollaston Congregational Church, UCC in Quincy, MA. Currently, she serves as a staff chaplain at Spaulding Hospital Cambridge. Heather looks forward to her ministry with UCC Burlington as the part-time summer interim Pastor. She believes as we share in open hearted ways, we often discover grace. In her spare time, Heather enjoys walks in nature, meditation and spending time with her friends. Heather's day off will be on Mondays. Please join us on June 16th as Pastor Heather’s first day leading worship. We will have a cake at coffee hour. The office will have her contact information available for you at that time.

TRUE NORTH PASTOR HOURS CANCELLED UNTIL THE FALL

Snacks can be placed in the kitchen and labelled. Remember, we need bottled water and a simple snack for about 20 children for each session, and we're having 12 sessions. Snack options: pretzels, cheese crackers, apples, tangerines, etc. Please, no nuts.

FENCE FUND FOR THE PARSONAGE

A huge thank you to shoe who donated to the Fence Fund as a gift to Angela and Andy’s baby and to the church. $1,500 was donated. This will bring the remaining cost down. Angela and Andy will be splitting the remaining cost with the Trustees when the time comes for installation.

CHURCH WORK DAY!

Thank you to all who came to help clean inside and outside on a rather wet May 4th! CE Sunday school kids did a great job cleaning the school and nursery area. Scouts also came and helped us clean. Thank you to all who participated! Trustees
