Chapter Director’s Spiel We think we can all agree that we have finally made it to another riding season, Hurray! We hope
that as many of you as possible can get out and have some wonderful fun rides, and especially
that you have the opportunity to join your fellow chapter members on some adventures.
There will be several fun things planned for you to choose from, just keep watching the
calendar printed here in the newsletter, and if you have any questions about any of the
scheduled rides, please feel free to contact us. And just as an aside, PLEASE know that
while we have tried to get some fun rides planned, based on input from many of you, we
strongly encourage “impromptu” rides, if there is nothing planned, but you decide it is
just such a day that you just HAVE to get out there and ride, and would like some company, contact some of your
fellow members and let them know, you may find you have a bunch of takers. You can also contact me with your
plans and we can activate the chapter Phone Tree to quickly spread the word so that other members might be able
to join you.
By now most all of you have heard the news about Loretta breaking her leg. We have received so many calls,
cards and emails, wishing her a speedy recovery and letting us know that she is in your thoughts and prayers, and
we both want to tell all of you how much we appreciate the support! Thanks so very much for your friendship.
We won’t be riding much this year, her initial prognosis was no weight bearing on that leg for 4-6 months, so
obviously she won’t be getting on the bike, and it will be difficult for her to be home alone for any extended
period of time, so unfortunately I will miss most of the all-day and all the multi-day rides, but we will try to make
it to the dinner rides, and I might be able to participate in any of the shorter day rides, we’ll play it by ear, but we
sincerely hope that you will still plan on attending any and all rides that peak your interest.
Please be safe as you do any rides, we want you around for a long time. Hope to see you soon, Brian & Loretta Richards, TN-M Chapter Directors
Assistant Chapter Director Hi, hope you’re getting ready for a new year for fun with your fellow chapter friends. Make
sure you, your gear, and especially your ride, are all at their peak performance level and ready to
get out there and have fun.
Please be careful if you get a chance to get out there and ride.
Ride Safe! James Whitener, TN-M Assistant Chapter Director
Chapter 2018 Couple of the Year Hello all.
Not doing much, with George’s surgery, won’t be riding for a while.
Looking forward to when we can get back on the road.
Ride Safe. George & Vida Maples, TN-M 2018 Couple of the Year

Chapter M “Doings”
TN-M May Dinner to Vittorino’s Italian restaurant in Loudon Brian Richards
We want to thank Marlene Kinney for another great monthly dinner ride, Vittorino’s Italian restaurant
turned out to be a great place for the 15 members that got together for some good food and great friends.
The weather forecasts were really “loopy” so all but two members came in their “quadra-cycles”. The
weather STARTED out pretty nice, and the radar LOOKED like any storms would PROBABLY miss us, so I
decided to ride, and met Russ Wools at the starting point on his GL1800. Randy & Marlene showed up to
“lead” the ride, in their quadra-cycle, and getting to the restaurant worked out fine. During dinner, towards the
end, the weather god got fickle on us, and looking out we saw the bottom fall out! Yech! Russ got smart and
when it was starting to look ugly, HE figured it might be a good idea to go out to his bike and bring in his rain
gear. Me, on the other hand, wasn’t thinking so clearly, so I got to run out and back in at least light rain to bring
my suit in. When we got ready to leave, the rain had stopped, and when I got to I-75 to head home, the
interstate was totally dry. However, when I got onto I-40E through the west Knoxville area, it had had some
rain so the road was wet, so I and the bike got pretty dirty from the spray off the vehicles in front of us, darn.
Anyway, it was another nice evening with our friends, and we hope that you will consider joining us on the
chapter’s next dinner adventure, curtesy of Frank Balzer – don’t know where he’s going to take us yet, it’s still
a mystery. Stay tuned.

A little humor to brighten your day QUESTIONS THAT HAUNT ME!
How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of
just murdered?
Once you’re in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?
Why does a round pizza come in a square box?
What disease did cured ham actually have?
How is it that we put a man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on
luggage?
Why is it that people say they ‘slept like a baby’ when babies wake up like every two hours?
June 2018, Page 9 of 9 Gold Wing Road Riders Association, TN-M
Why are you IN a movie, but you’re ON TV?
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?
Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They’re going to see you naked anyway.
Why is ‘bra’ singular and ‘panties’ plural?
Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being
would eat?
If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?
Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They’re both dogs!
Do the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?
Why did you just try singing the two songs above?
Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog’s face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car
ride, he sticks his head out the window?
Why, why, why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are almost dead?
Why do banks charge a fee on ‘insufficient funds’ when they know there is not enough money?
Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint
is wet?
Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?
Why doesn’t Tarzan have a beard?
Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him?
Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?
Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?
Is there ever a day that sofas are not on sale?
Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have
materialized?
Why do people keep running over a thread a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick
it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance?
Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end on your first try?
How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures?
Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that’s falling off the table you always manage to
knock something else over?
In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the
heat?
How come you never hear father-in-law jokes?
