A Message from Rev. Borghardt
JUNE MIDWEEK BIBLE STUDY
Summer is a good time to do something different. Take it easy. Relax. Chill after work. Why not add a little Bible Study to your Summer? We will have topical Bible studies every Wednesday night in June. I hope that you can make one or all fo them! Supper is before at 5pm. Here’s the schedule! I’ll see you there!
June 6 - TWO RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD (A.K.A. WHY LUTHERANISM IS THE BESTEST)
Thank God! I'm a Lutheran. I was born an unbeliever. I was baptized Roman Catholic. I was agnostic in High School because I didn't want to tell God that I was right back to being an unbeliever. I even tried to give my heart to Jesus. Then, tongues. Yes, tongues! But, despite me, against my will, the Holy Spirit dragged me into a Lutheran Church and I've never wanted to be anything else other than Lutheran. If you are one too, let's talk about why you should feel the same way about your faith!
June 13 - SUFFERING: DOES GOD JUST HAVE IT OUT FOR ME?
"So, why am I suffering? Did I do something wrong? Is God punishing me? What did I do wrong? Why do I hurt? Why am I suffering? Doesn't He love me? Why are things so wrong?" Jesus knows about our suffering. He suffered for us. Let's take a look at what He has to say about suffering in our lives and in the lives of those around us.
June 20 - LUTHERAN VIEW OF MARRIAGE (RAINBOWS vs. JESUS)
Guy meets girl. Guy asks girl out. Girl and guy fall in love. They marry in church and live happily ever after. It used to be so easy! What about alternate lifestyles? Our culture has changed radically on this even in the last five years! What do we have to say about that as Lutherans? How do we talk about this subject without sounding like racists from the 1800s? Let's take a look at Jesus and what He has to say about marriage and our culture today. Where does Jesus fit in all of this, anyway?
June 27 - HOLY ABSOLUTION: ONE LORD, ONE IDIOT, THREE WORDS Three words are the voice of the Gospel. Three words change our universe. Three words are part of every Christian’s vocation. In Church, these three words are half of your pastor’s job. Come and rejoice in Holy Absolution and the three words which can be spoken by any idiot, even me. No Confession booth or penance required.
Rev. George F. Borghardt III Senior Pastor Immanuel Lutheran Church — LCMS Bossier City, LA President Higher Things, Inc.

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO CONSTITUTION & BYLAWS
At the Quarterly Congregational Meeting scheduled for June 24, 2018 the congregation will be voting on several amendments to the Immanuel Lutheran Church’s Constitution and Bylaws.
You should have received a copy of the proposed amendments via email and
in your mailbox in the Fellowship Hall.
If you have NOT received a copy of the proposal, please let Claire know in the office and she will get you one. Her email is [email protected].
MAILBOXES IN THE FELLOWSHIP HALL TO BE REVAMPED
We will be rearranging the mailboxes beginning June 11th. The particular mailbox you have now will very likely change. Therefore, if you have items in the box, please remove them prior to the 11th. Please don’t put them somewhere around the fellowship hall. Put them in something and take them home. When the boxes have been finished, you may move essential items back to the new box location. We expect to have the boxes ready by June 17th. We really need your cooperation on this issue.
If you do not have a box, please let the office know not later than June 6th.
2018 IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH DIRECTORIES
The long awaited new church directory is completed! After the mailboxes are re-worked, June 17th, we will put a new
directory in your box. When you receive the directory, please check your information closely. If there is an error,
please let the office know the correction needed. Thanks for your patience.
The article submission deadline for the
JUNE Newsletter is Friday, June 15.
Articles submitted after this date will be in the next newsletter.
Ice Cube Trays Silverware Trays Toasters Coffee Makers Alarm Clocks
Renesting Items can be dropped off at the church in the Fellowship Area or

WOMEN’S MINISTRIES
MISSION OUTREACH
Thank you to each one of you who participated in our Love Wrapper Projects. You turned in amazing numbers of love wrappers for the May RRQ meeting to be prepared for distribution.
What a blessing to our community!!!!
I am so proud of all of you with the work you are doing but also in the progress I am seeing in the techniques of many of you. You have come a long way, baby; great job. I have more quilts ready to practice and improve binding skills. During our July retreat I plan to show methods of "quilt as you go" for quilting on home sewing machines. Information about this will be given at our June meeting or contact me. Meetings are at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2565 Airline Drive, Bossier City; 9am-3pm for each meeting day. Our next meetings at Mission Outreach are as follows (remember some of the dates have changed since first postings so check your calendars for accuracy and updates): June 22-23, July 12-13-14 (Three day retreat), August 24-25, September 28-29, October 26-27, and November16-17.
If you are not already getting email reminders, contact me and get your name/email on the list for notifications of changes and reminders.

PRESCHOOL
Bible lessons about Easter, letter sounds, number sense, science, art, music, and chapel make for really fun days at school. Student assessments are complete and parent-teacher conferences are underway. A special thanks to the volunteers from Immanuel that help to make up this excellent school. Also we are grateful for the support we get from our preschool board and others in church who encourage this ministry. Registration for next semester is underway, and we are already getting calls asking about our program here at Immanuel. Next semester our school day will run from 9am-2pm, and tuition will be $400 per month.
