I believe the answer is similar to the reasons we love art and music: a love of aesthetic and history. Houses tell stories, and the more character they have, the more interesting their stories. Their shapes, features, and colors resonate within us the same way listening to a piece of music does.

Houses are uniquely human. They are homes we decorate instead of merely holes we hide in. Because of that, I think it’s in our DNA to feel houses. Every house is a potential home.

When we’re looking at houses, I believe we’re experiencing them, not just seeing them, which is one reason so many people love house hunting.

Why Do We Love Looking at Houses?

Keep Me in Your Phone When I use a high-end service, whether it's legal, medical, or financial, I want to work with a problem solver who truly cares about the quality of my experience while also helping me get what I want.

That's the same attention I bring to my real estate clients. So the next time one of your friends, neighbors, or acquaintances mentions buying or selling real estate, would you mind connecting us so I can see what kind of help they need? Call or text me a few details at: 618-309-4753

Now that we’re retired, it’s important to have a little fun each day.

Just for Fun: It’s Important to Have Fun in Retirement Working people often ask what retired people do to make their days more interesting. You might be surprised to know that it doesn’t require big plans.

Here's one man’s answer:

Well, the other day Mary and I went into town to do some shopping. We were only in there for about five minutes. When we came out, a cop was writing a ticket.

We went up to him and I said, "Come on, man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?"

He ignored us and continued writing the ticket.

So I called him a dummy. He glared at me as he put the ticket on the windshield. Then he calmly started writing another ticket, this time for worn out tires.

So Mary called him a bone head. He glanced at her, finished writing that ticket and started on another.

So we called him another name, and the patient man started writing another ticket. We’d have kept on, but just then our bus arrived, so we got on and went home.

For Fun: Gone Fishing A millionaire walked past a man sitting on the curb. The old man had a fishing rod and was fishing in the storm drain.

Taking pity, the millionaire took the old man to a nearby restaurant for a meal. As they ate, the rich man asked, “So how is fishing in that storm drain working out?”

“Not bad,” said the man. “You’re the third one I’ve caught today.”

4 Easy Ways to Be a Real Estate Investor

I’m often asked for the easiest or cheapest ways to get started in real estate investing. With that in mind, here are 4 super-easy approaches.

Rent a room in your own home. Using a service like Air B&B, or just putting an ad on Craigslist, you can rent a room part or full-time. You don’t even need to be a home owner!

Buy a new home and rent out your old one. You may be able to count the rent as income when buying the next home. But consider the tax implications carefully. A good mortgage broker can help.

Invest in crowdfunded real estate. Do extensive research before taking this path. Look for past performance and read the fine print.

Buy into a real estate investment trust (REIT). There are many guides online that show how. This is a passive approach, and may offer low but steady returns when investing long-term.

International Travel with Your Mobile Phone

If you are travelling overseas and would like to use your mobile phone you have a number of options.

Do you need to be contactable on your current phone number while traveling? Ask your carrier if they offer global roaming packs that include calls, text and data (at an extra cost). Questions to ask your carrier:

1. What countries can I use the pack in?

2. How much does it cost and how am I charged for it? Some packs are charged on a per day basis, while for others you pay an upfront fee for a set amount of

inclusions that last a set number of days.

3. What are the inclusions? Some packs include calls, text and data. Some just include limited data, which can be used up quickly if you’ll need your phone for navigation.

4. What are the charges for going over the inclusions and how do I track my usage?

5. When my roaming pack expires, what rates will I get charged for calls, text and data?

Watch out for automatic opt-in settings for roaming which can result in huge unexpected charges. If you don't need your current phone number, you can also buy a local SIM card for your phone at your overseas destination, and use free local Wi-Fi.

Thank You! Welcome new clients and Thank You to friends who’ve trusted me to work with you, your friends, family and coworkers.

Things to Think about before Downsizing Your Home Millions of homeowners live in large home they don’t need any longer. Their kids are grown. They don’t enjoy cleaning it and can’t manage the huge yard. But it can be scary, painful, and possibly unprofitable to move…so why bother? If you—or people you know—are thinking about downsizing, here are some questions to consider.

Do you have enough equity in your current home that you can buy a smaller one with lower payments? Is it even possible to buy a home with lower payments in your area, given interest rates and prices?

Are there desirable single level homes you would want to move into? If you don’t know, then hop onto my website at www.TurnerHomes.com and do a search, or call me for help.

Would it be more profitable to move now or wait? By buying smaller now, you might get lower interest rates, lower prices, and a longer ownership window for building equity again in the new home. But if you wait, you could gain more equity in your current home. It depends on if the market is rising, falling, or stabilizing.

If you, or someone you know lives in a home that’s too large now, please call me to discuss the pros and cons of moving.
