Congratulations to the Class of 2014
O ne of my favorite roles as Superintendent happens every June as
our graduates are announced and our students cross the stage to
receive their diplomas. I look forward to shaking their hands and
congratulating each student on their achievements.
The members of the Lake Shore Central School District Class of 2014
is a phenomenal group of young people with great promise,
phenomenal ability and incredible potential. I am so proud of this
group of students and their achievements both in and out of school.
These young adults have worked hard to reach their goals and are well
prepared for their futures. I am impressed by their determination,
strength and conviction. The success of our graduates is a reflection of
efforts of the entire school community. Students and their families are
partners in our educational system that is supported by New York State
and local taxpayers.
Our community’s investment in the Lake Shore Class of 2014 is
evident in so many ways. One of the most tangible is through the
designation of more than $35,000 in local scholarships and grants that
were awarded to the Lake Shore Class of 2014.
A potential of approximately 1.9 million dollars in grants and
scholarships have been offered to the Class of 2014, with several
students receiving full scholarships to institutions of higher learning.

School District in partnership with our students, families and school
community will cultivate engaging, diverse, and challenging education-
al opportunities and learning environments to promote life-long learn-
ing and achievement in preparation for high school graduation, college
and careers.
As the 2013-14 school year comes to a close several of our employees
have notified the District of their intent to retire. At this time we are
aware of the retirements of Susan Ciminelli (16 years of service),
Christine Dobrzanski (18 years of service), Aline Nachtigall (28 years
of service) and Jean Stang-Terrano (33 years of service). These four
individuals have a combined 95 years of service to the District and
their work and efforts for the District are greatly appreciated. I would
like to offer a sincere thank you to each of these individuals and wish
them a wonderful retirement.
As we head toward summer, we are looking toward the upcoming
school year. Summer curriculum work and professional development
has been planned to continue to prepare our instructional leaders and
teachers for the coming school year. We will continue to implement the
Common Core Learning Standards across our curriculum as part of the
Regents Reform Agenda designed to prepare our students for college
and career pathways.
The District will once again be hosting summer school programming at
our Middle School. Staff and administrative assignments have been
made and parents and students will receive information in the coming
week. The program starts July 7.
Over the past several years, the Lake Shore Central School District has
secured grant funding to support education innovation and energy con-
servation and efficiency. The savings from these programs have assist-
ed us in supporting our educational initiatives and reducing costs. We
believe that collaboration with other school districts and partners will
continue to assist our District in moving forward.
Our students and employees have worked incredibly hard this year and
we are grateful for these efforts. I hope summer is a restful and relaxing
time for you and your family.
James Przepasniak,
Superintendent of Schools

L ake Shore Central School District is one of 121 school
districts and Board of Cooperative Educational Services in the
state to receive the “2014 School Safety Excellence Award” from
the Utica National Insurance Group.
This honor, presented annually, recognizes school districts’ safety
efforts as they work to help keep students, staff and visitors safe.
Lake Shore received its award at Utica National’s 34th annual school
safety seminar in Olean.
Utica National officials presented the award at its 34rd annual
school safety seminar, one of seven held in New York State. Utica
insures more than 300 school districts in upstate New York for
property and liability insurance and is one of the leading companies
in the field.
Lake Shore received a certificate from the insurance company to
commemorate the district’s safety efforts and a $500 award for use
in furthering their safety efforts.
“Safety and health concerns are a priority in our school districts.
Whether we are parents seeing our child off on the school bus,
teachers charged with the responsibility of educating, or staff who
maintain the facility, there is a common thread of attention to safety
issues,” Regional Manager - Risk Management Department, Mark
Aquino said.
“It is with great pleasure that we recognize those schools that not
only take safety to heart, but go above and beyond to
provide a safe, healthy, and focused culture for learning.”
Utica National’s School Safety Excellence Award Program helps
participating schools enhance overall safety through measurable
assessment. The program evaluates schools with their own transpor-
tation on 19 categories, schools with contract transportation on 18
categories and BOCES on 14 categories, from bullying prevention
program to playground safety, with specific, quantifiable data-
gathering surveys.
“This recognition belongs to all of our employees who work hard
every day to ensure the safety and security of our buildings, espe-
cially our District Safety Committee. This award will be invested in
District safety initiatives to continue our efforts in providing safe
and secure educational environments,” Superintendent of Schools
James Przepasniak said.
