Howie brought such
joy to others…..
Apostle
Presbyterian
Church
Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not ne-glecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Dear Church: As I drive to Apostle in the morning, I start to think about all that needs to be done. Of course, I have some wonderful partners in ministry so thankfully all of these things don’t have to be done by ME!! Last week I found myself daydreaming about sum-mer. AHHHH the dog days of summer---the Sabbath rest that comes from our church duties in summer—we don’t have Sunday School, some of our committees don’t meet during the summer. As I daydreamed I thought of all the things in the office that needed to be done---I thought OOO MY STARS Linda
and I will finally get the things done that we want because we all know during the sum-mer things slow down at church!! But then I looked at our summer schedule. In June we will be celebrat-ing graduation Sunday along with the gifts of women—I will be taking 4 days of study leave—in July we will have our all church picnic at our home and three from Apostle are planning to attend Synod School in Storm Lake, Iowa. In August we will be wor-shipping in the park one Sunday as well as having a week of Vacation Bible School beginning Au-gust 13. Later in this newsletter you will see many opportunities to attend community events with other mem-bers of Apostle. THERE IS NO SUMMER SLOW DOWN!!!! When I look at the He-brews passage, I see
that God expects us to meet together, as is the habit and encourage each other. He says NOTHING about taking a summer vacation from these expected Christian habits. Why don’t we see if we can set an at-tendance record this summer at Apostle? Why don’t we see if we can stay plugged into the ministry and partici-pate each week not only in worship but find a new place that might fit our particular gifts and talents? I look forward to our summer together! I look forward to seeing what exciting things God will be doing! See you in church!! Cathy

June 2012 ACTS OF APOSTLE
Going Home written by William Arms Fisher
NEW WORLD SYMPHONY by Antonin Dvorak
Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.
Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just began.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

Apostle financially supports Mark and Sandy Hoekstra, missionaries through Talking Bi-bles International. Portions of a recent letter from Mark Hoekstra is printed below.
“Thank you for your recent letter and your kind gift for Sandy and my support. Your
commitment and faithful support over the years has been very encouraging to us. . . your gift makes a real difference. . . (makes it possible) to carry on with the important
task of providing God’s spoken Word in a format non-readers can use and enjoy. God bless each of you for helping people who can’t read get a Bible to listen to. . .”
“In Ethiopia, Pastor Shibishi just recently received a Talking Bible for his ministry. Al-
ready he says he has five new baptized believers. Also, nine people, who wandered
away from the church, have returned and recommitted their lives to God. Just one Talk-ing Bible and the love of a local pastor have changed fourteen people’s lives.”
Your gift helps Sandy and me be a part of saving lives, comforting the hurting, and al-
lowing God’s powerful Word to reach throughout the world.” Thank you.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN NEWS: Hope Circle Update
It is that time of the year in many places where our military men and women are stationed that the temperatures are soaring above a hundred degrees! The
requests for “cool ties” are once again in high demand by military units. In early May, Apostle women were able to mail 120 “cool ties” to The Ships Project to re-spond to this need.
Proceeds from the December churchwide bake sale make it possible to purchase fabric and
polymer crystals used to make the ties, as well as pay for shipping costs. Thank you for making it possible to purchase these supplies and thank you to the women who make the ties!
The following note was received recently: “Please let all the people know how appreciative we are for these bands (cool ties). The tem-
perature here. . . is an average 120 degrees and most of us all work outside during the day under the sun. These bands have kept us a lot cooler and more productive. We have another couple of months left in this country and the temperature is going to rise and the risk of heat related injuries and illnesses are going to rise also. I am certain that these bands will reduce the number of these sorts of injuries. Let everyone know they are lifesavers!!
Hope Circle will next meet on Thursday, June 7
th at 10 a.m. to make “cool ties”. If you can cut
fabric, sew, iron, turn ties inside out, or fill ties with crystal, we can use your help! Contact Shirley Anderson (546-2476) or Marilyn Stone (1-262-763-0918) for additional information.
EVERYONE WELCOME…………………….

Tuesday, July 17, come with your family, friends, congregation, faith community, school or oth-
er organization for a celebratory evening at Miller Park with the Interfaith Conference of
Greater Milwaukee. Donate food for the Hunger Task Force, wear “Going to Bat for a Better
World” t-shirt and see an exciting Brewers-Cardinals game.
For the past two years, we also have been given the honor of having one of our participants
throw a symbolic first pitch on the playing field before the game. If we sell enough tickets to
qualify for that again, we’ll conduct a drawing and let a lucky boy or girl have the thrill of pitch-
ing from the mound to a Brewers catcher.
We handle all ticket and t-shirt sales online for individuals or groups.
This is a great opportunity for Apostle to have fun and work together with our larger communi-
ty for the good cause aided by the Hunger Task Force.

Tony is doing well but needs
about 4 weeks of consistent
rehab to get his muscles and
limbs working well and back
to normal. Dean Puschnig,
our Finance/Budget Modera-
tor, is monitoring our fi-
nances and ensuring that
we are keeping up with every-
thing.
Please keep Tony in your
prayers as he works very hard
to regain movement in his
muscles.
OFFERINGS & PLEDGES to

Financial update from our Treasurer and Finance Committee
Now that the “school year” of
choir music is completed, we
look forward to the fall when
we can put our focus on sing-
ing praises to God once again
during worship.
I would personally like to
thank this congregation for
the wonderful support given
to the New Beginning Choir
during their 2012 Worship
Program.
Lots and lots of hours and
hard work goes into preparing
this worship service. The ded-
ication and devotion to God
displayed by the members of
this fine group of singers
makes me very proud to be
their director.
The members of our Chancel
Choir, are another group of
dedicated and devoted indi-
viduals. Though the choir has
gotten smaller in size the
hearts and continued efforts by
each member is not to be out
done by anyone. I am so proud
to direct this group of singers
who never let me down through
illness or bad weather.
New Beginning will be busy
this summer singing at other
churches in our surrounding
communities. Please keep
them in your hearts and pray-
ers as they continue to repre-
sent Apostle this summer by
spreading the word of God
through music.
Please keep the members of
Chancel Choir in your hearts
and prayers as they look for-
ward to returning in the fall
to sing praises once again to
God during worship.
I hope you enjoy the special
music during the summer
months that will be presented
by various members and
friends of Apostle.
Blessings
Carl
PS: Fall might be a good time
for you to think about joining
choir. We
have fun
too….
We are very excited to offer something rather different for Apostle this summer. Our last day of
"official" Sunday School was May 20th . However, we want to offer Adult Ed all summer. “THE
WIRED WORD” has provided us with many wonderful conversation starters since we began using it
in January. We want to make sure that everyone feels welcome!!!
We will be offering Sunday School during the summer for all ages!!!!! Sunday May 27 the kids will be excited to see Heidi Sether as their teacher along with an adult to be named later.
Sunday School for ALL AGES will be offered from 8:45 to 9:30 AM. We hope if you haven't joined us before, you will consider trying this out for the summer!!!

A thank you was received for
Apostle’s contributions of socks
and paper products, as well a
financial contribution from the
Sunday School children’s
weekly offerings. Reportedly,
by the end of March, two-thirds
of their homeless guests were
placed into or found for them-
selves more permanent living
arrangements. Homeless
guests continue to share fellow-
ship over a weekly meal on Fri-
days from April through Novem-
ber. Thank you, Apostle!

A total of 82 pair of socks for men, women and children were collected on “Sock it to Poverty” Sundays in April and May! These socks will be donated to the women and children sheltered at Joy House and the men sheltered at Safe Harbor. These shel-ters are a part of Milwaukee Rescue Mission. Thank you so much for your generosi-ty! Our next “Sock it to Poverty” Sunday will be June 10
th
where socks for children, women and men will be col-lected and donated to San José Parish in Beloit. This
parish is an ecumenical Latino ministry comprised mostly of first generation Latino families that is in partnership with the Presbytery of Milwaukee and South-central Synod of WI Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Neddy Astudillo, a Presbyterian pastor, serves this parish.

Every member of this congregation knows the power of prayer. We are all examples of
how prayer DOES work!. Young, Old, Men and Women can pray!
Ginny Treviranus is the Prayer Chain Coordinator. Ginny is looking for more members to
sign up to be on the Prayer Chain. What does this means for you? Your name will be
added to a Prayer Chain Team; when a prayer request comes in, Ginny will call the first
person on each Team; that person calls the next name on the list and it continues until
everyone on the prayer chain has been called with the prayer request.
This is not a difficult job but it has many rewards! The most important part of this job
is TO PRAY.
This is a very significant part of church work. You will be working directly
for GOD. “When a faithful person prays, good things happen”. Please
contact Ginny Treviranus at (414-543-2013). She would welcome your call.

were most appreciated! Your thoughtfulness was much appreciated by the family as well.
If anyone still has a recipe for Howie’s family, you can email it directly to Sandy Dykstra at

Those of us from Covenant Circle want to thank our Apostle congregation for your
support of our Spaghetti Dinner in February. We received $540 from your contri-
butions and adding money from our circle’s treasury, we were able to purchase 100
three pound hams at the cost of $675. They were distributed by the Hope House
to needy families at Easter. The Hope House was very thankful to our church and
to our circle. Thank you again.
Hi Cathy, Marilyn, Judy and others,
THANK YOU so much for a wonderful dinner and great accommodations for the
meeting last night. The food was fantastic - from the salad (can I have the recipe?),
to the delicious iced tea, to the perfect pork and rice to the decadent chocolate de-
sert (that the students requested seconds of)!
I really appreciate everyone’s help in the planning (Cathy), set-up and take down
(Marilyn), dinner service (Judy) and meal preparation (Dick & Karen Cushing )
and former Chief Puschnig and staff. Great job everyone – THANK YOU again!
