Once a New York City street performance, Blue Man Group has been performing for nearly 15 years at the Briar Street Theatre. All of the actors wear shiny royal blue latex paint that takes nearly an hour to apply before each show. A DJ warms up the audience, but the gleam really comes when the Blue Man Group takes to the stage and the deep percussive bass begins. Flying toilet paper reams, spraying colored water (blue, of course) and strobe lights fill the theatre. This is a not-to-be-missed trip! Danger, romance, and comic surprises abound in this whirlwind of a show as five ac- tors portray 39 characters in several continents. This perform- ance will be seen at Pheasant Run in St. Charles.     Blue Man Group at Briar St. Theatre

    Around the World in 80 Days

    There's no plot and no dialogue, but the high-energy combination of mime, percus-sion, visual feats and lots of audience interaction and participation make for a great theatrical performance. Once a New York City street performance, Blue Man Group has been performing for nearly 15 years at the Briar Street Theatre.   • If the group would like to continue with the Monthly Walking Club, we can discuss an earlier start time for the hotter summer months.

    Lace up your sneakers, grab your water bottle and join fellow So-cial Club members for our new Monthly Walking Club. We will meet at the Community Center every Friday in June at 9:00am (weather permitting) and then head out to walk the perimeter of Proesel Park, which is approximately one mile in length. The group will determine the number of times we circle the park. At the conclusion of the walk, coffee/tea and bagels will be served in the Community Center. Please note: we will not walk if it is raining.

    Calling all bridge players! Our Drop-In Bridge program will now meet from

    Noon—3:00PM. Please consider joining this fun group of card players on any

    given Monday afternoon. The more the merrier! No registration is required;

    Lunch Bunch is hitting the road! This month’s restaurant is Tavern on Rush, located at Rush and Division—a place to see and be seen in the heart of the city! Serving upscale, contemporary American cuisine, Tavern on Rush’s lunch menu consists of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches and brick oven pizza with prices ranging from $9-$19 Registration will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis with a maxi-mum of 12 Social Club members each month. The cost of transportation and chaperone will be cov-ered; you must pay for your own meal.

    Grab your favorite lawn chair and picnic dinner and head to the Proesel Park Shelter for a free evening concert by The Joan Hammel Band. The first in the summer series, Joan and her band will entertain the audience with hits from Sheryl Crow and other pop favorites. This concert is free of charge and begins at 7:00PM. Please watch for future concert dates in upcoming newsletters.

  • It’s that time of year again...the Lincolnwood Farmers Market is ready to delight you with the freshest produce, breads, pastries, herbs and spices, maple and honey products and so much more. This year’s market will feature booths by local busi-nesses and community groups as well as an entertainment series.

    The Farmers Market will run June 2-October 13 from 8AM-1PM at St. John’s Lu-theran Church, located at 4707 Pratt Avenue. On June 23, the Citizens Utility Board will be on site from 10AM-1PM to review home land line phone bills. Representatives will evaluate your current home phone bill and make suggestions on ways to reduce the monthly bill. You must bring at least one phone bill to be evaluated. This is a FREE activity.

    Movie & Lunch (New Release) The King’s Speech Britain's King George VI (Colin Firth) struggles with an em-barrassing stutter for years until he seeks help from unortho-dox Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) in this biographical drama that chalked up multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Logue's pioneer-ing treatment and unlikely friendship give the royal leader a sense of confidence that serves him and his country well during the dark days of World War II.     The group enjoyed a day of “Old Town” fun on April 15 with a visit to the Museum of Surgical Science to see the “Our Body” exhibit. Following the museum, lunch was served up Italian-style at Topo Gigio. A

    great day was had by all!

    Unless otherwise noted, the location for all programs listed in the newsletter is the

    Lincolnwood Community Center, located at 6900 N. Lincoln Avenue at the corner of Lin-

    coln and Morse Avenues. All trips depart from Village Hall, also located at 6900 N. Lincoln Avenue. You are welcome to wait indoors until the bus arrives at the cir-

    cle drive in front of Village Hall.

    The Lincolnwood Social Club Lending Closet has items for use on a monthly rental basis

    for a fee of $10 per item. A $75 security deposit is required, which is returned when the

    items come back damage-free.

    Current inventory includes wheelchairs, rolling walkers, standard walkers, shower bench,

    free-standing commode, toilet commode, and cane. A current drivers license is needed

    to complete the rental agreement. All items are subject to availability.
