LGS Recreation’s fee-based Summer Enrichment School is open to all students entering grades K – 8th.

Designed and facilitated by credentialed teachers from local school districts, the program provides young peo-

ple the opportunity to keep strengthening their aca-demics during summer months through a wide-range of challenging, engaging and fun classes (non-graded).

FULL DAY PROGRAM OPTIONS

BEFORE SCHOOL CARE PROGRAMS K-8TH The Summer Enrichment School bell rings at 8:20 A.M. or 8:35 A.M. depending on the location, but starting at 7:00 A.M. each location offers Before School Care for parents/guardians that start their workday earlier or have a commute. As students arrive they will have the opportunity to socialize with friends and participate in low impact activities supervised by our staff. (Closed July 4th)

AFTER SCHOOL DAY CAMP PROGRAMS K-8THOnce the school bell rings for dismissal the fun doesn’t have to stop! We offer After School Day Camp until 6:00 P.M. to all students participating in Summer Enrichment School for an additional fee of $639 for the entire four weeks. Camp features: arts & crafts, healthy cooking projects, sports & games, swimming (when available), special guest visitors and a weekly field trip! Staff to camper ratio: 1 to 12.

ADDITIONAL CAMP INFORMATIONWEEKLY CALENDAR A weekly calendar will be emailed out to all participants the Friday before each week of camp detailing all the fun students can expect to have – including field trip information and what to bring each day.

CAMP T-SHIRTThis year’s camp t-shirt must be worn by students on all off-site field trips. T-shirts can be purchased for $12 at the time of online registration or also on-site the first week of camp.

LUNCH & SNACKA bag lunch and water bottle should be brought each day to camp unless the weekly calendar states otherwise. A daily snack will be provided.

LATE PICK UP A $25 charge will be incurred in increments of 15 minutes for each camper after 6:00 P.M.

TEACHER ASSISTANT PROGRAMHigh School students entering grades 9-12, make this summer matter through volunteering as an Academic or Enrichment Summer School Teacher Assistant for Los Gatos - Saratoga Community Education and Recreation. You’ll work with an assigned teacher in the classroom on some course planning and maintaining a safe and clean learning environment for the students. Prepare materials and supplies in advance for class projects/activities.

Commitment Requirement Participants should be available for the full duration of the program (June 18th-July 13th). Proof of volunteer service hours completed will be distributed to all participants at the conclusion of the program.

HOW TO REGISTERReady to register? Visit lgsrecreation.org to review up to date program details and class availability. To complete program registration, all parents/guardians will need to: 1. Sign in to their existing Online system account or create a new one and update student emergency information. 2. Select class(es) depending on entering grade level this coming fall. 3. Acknowledge program polices and release liability. 4. Submit payment.

CLASS TRANSFERS There is a $15 transfer fee per course after registration has been submitted until June 6th. From March 7th – June 6th all class transfers can be processed over the phone by contacting LGS Recreation’s Main Office at 408-354-8700 permitting space. Transfers will be made available again-pending class availability, on campus in the Summer Enrichment School Office starting June 20th at 8:00 A.M. for $25 per transfer.

REFUND REQUEST All refund requests can be made at lgsrecreation.org/refund-policy. Refund requests for Before School Care, Summer Enrichment School and After School Day Camp must be made by June 6th at 5:00 P.M. No refunds will be issued after this date.

ATHLETICS60 SECONDS OR LESS GRADES 4-5Students channel their inner competitive spirit to complete a set of 60 second challenges that enforce specific STEM princi-ples with each activity. From rolling marbles over tape to explain energy conservation to understanding air pressure by making cups fly. Each lesson builds on existing subjects and requires more complex solutions and critical thinking skills, making its completion that much more rewarding. When students complete the final goal, they will be true STEM champions!

TEAM SPORTS GRADES 4-8Join us for a variety of team sports! Students will increase their skills in baseball, basketball, soccer, football and more. Cooperation, sportsmanship, teamwork and playing are the focus of this fun filled class! No previous experience necessary. The only requirements are a desire to have fun and a pair of athletic shoes. *Shin guards are required

ART & DESIGN3D ART GRADES 2-3Are you ready to use your hands to make some wonderful 3-D objects? From clay modeling, beading, paper mache, creative structures, to some things ooey gooey, we will be putting a spin on traditional art. This class is one of our most popular, so be sure to sign up now before it fills!

ART AROUND THE WORLD GRADES 2-3Have you ever wondered what art from other countries looks like? Create your own masterpieces inspired by art from different cultures. Learn about the elements of art while using traditional and unique painting techniques. Work with materi-als including tempera paint, watercolors, oil and chalk pastels. Embrace and explore the diversity of art on Earth!

ART EXPLOSION GRADES 4-5This class is a creativity explosion! Draw, paint, build, and create multiple 2D and 3D art projects. Work with a variety of media including paint, pastels, colored pencils, clay, and sculpting materials while learning valuable tricks and techniques that make art projects successful. We’ll create some amazing 2-dimensional art pieces as well as 3 dimensional creatures. Individual creativity is explored and encouraged in this fun, fast moving class.

MIXED MEDIA MADNESS GRADES 6-8Explore and work with a variety of art materials creating 2D and 3D art projects. Create with art materials including a variety of drawing tools, pastels, paint, and clay, as well as print media, found and recycled items, and textiles to create cool and creative pieces of art. Learn art techniques with a variety of materials while embracing your own creative style. This is a hands-on, fun, and fast-moving class for all art abilities.

BUSINESSENTREPRENEURS - CREATING A BUSINESS PLAN GRADES 6-8Student teams will have a blast creating and running their own business. Teams will work through the steps of product manufacturing, choosing a business location and advertising. We’ll also raise money for a worthy cause while learning busi-ness management skills.

MAKE IT AND SELL IT- MINI ECONOMY GRADES 2-3Are you ready to become a money master? Want to create and run your own store? By learning to make change, selling products and learning how to live on a budget you can become a real money master. Students will play money games and have fun improving their money skills. The class will run a store and donate the proceeds to a local charity.

INVENTOR’S STUDIO GRADES 4-5Are you always trying to create new things? This class will give you the opportunity to put your inventor skills to work. Brainstorm your ideas, take things apart, put them back togeth-er in a different way and learn how things work. Come up with a way to make something better or invent something unique! Curious minds create the most useful and innovative things.

CHESSCHESS GRADES 6-8Chess is a hot game! If you know a little bit about chess or nothing about chess, this is the class for you. Learn chess and meet new friends and increase your brain power. The excite-ment never stops when you play chess. Get ready to level up on your chess team!

CULINARYCAKE DECORATING GRADES 4-8Learn the basics in decorating techniques for candy, cookies, cupcakes, and cakes. Dazzle your family and friends when you make their special cake or cupcakes with beautiful decorations. During our last week we will have a friendly “Cake Boss” competition. Students will take home their own kits filled with tips, disposable decorating bags, and a recipe book. This course is taught by professional bakers - they really know their stuff!

COOKING AROUND THE GLOBE GRADES 6-8Do you enjoy watching the cooking channel? Come learn how to cook such things as international cuisine, snacks, appetizers, main dishes, and desserts from all over the world.

KIDS CAN COOK GRADES 2-3A hands-on class for kids who like to cook and eat. Have fun and learn some new healthy recipes to share with your family and friends. Even the pickiest of eaters will usually try food they prepare themselves. Work on your math and reading skills while measuring and following a recipe. At the end of the session each student will take home a recipe booklet containing all the recipes they’ve made in class. This is a booklet they will create themselves! (Warning: This class may not be ideal for children with food allergies.)

KIDS COOKING CHALLENGE GRADES 4-5A hands-on class for those who like to cook and eat! Have fun and learn about nutrition and new recipes to share with your family and friends. Learn to cook a variety of foods from eggs to sliders.

ENGINEERING DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY 3D MODELING & PRINTING GRADES 4-83D Printing is a method of creation that requires only some basic computer skills and a few rules of thumb. This class will allow students to discover for themselves the potential and limitations of 3D Printing through building an intensive design project. This course is an excellent option for anyone who ever wanted to prototype an invention, create a work of art, customize a product or just make something cool.

DESIGN AND CODE A VIDEO GAME GRADES 6-8This class will teach basic programming skills in a creative, fun and easy-to-learn way! You can make games, animations, art or just about anything. Students who want a fun creative challenge will find it in this course. Students will learn the fundamentals of programming (telling the computer what to do) to design wonderful and exciting games.

DRONES-BUILD AND CODE GRADES 4-8Learn about the main components and parts that are found in drones and how they are built and prepared for flight. The course begins by introducing common acronyms that are used when talking about drones - roll, pitch, yaw, and throttle. Next, you’ll be taken through the steps of building a drone. You will learn the process of preparing motors, electronic speed controllers, and power distribution boards. Teams will build a drone and create codes to fly to amazing views.

GAME CREATION W/ MINECRAFT™ GRADES 4-5Learning to build and customize amazing worlds. Explore the different roles required to develop a video game, including: programmer, game designer, architect and artist. Create maps, buildings and roller coasters. Get ready MINECRAFT™ is for game makers.

TECH ADVENTURES AND MORE GRADES 2-3Using technology, expand your creativity and fine-tune your problem-solving skills, all while collaborating with classmates to create a variety of digital presentations. Explore with Nearpod, Kahoot! and more. Come have fun and create digital memories that you can share with friends and family.

SIMPLE MACHINES GRADES 4-5Come discover the exciting applications of mechanical en-gineering in this hands-on class! Students will build simple machines daily and eventually advance their way to constructing a creation of their own. They’ll investigate levers, pulleys and inclined planes and enhance critical thinking skills while building upon existing knowledge from previous class meetings.

STRUCTURAL DESIGN GRADES 6-8Channel your inner architect as you learn how to design structures, consider stresses and integrate mechanical actions into structural projects. Explore the impact of external forces on structures. As you build more complex structures, use critical thinking skills to increase stability and function.

DISCOVERY THROUGH READING GRADES 4-5Curious minds are always seeking new information. Even the most reluctant readers will want to research, read, and build projects around STEM based topics. Students will learn interesting facts about the world around them and how things work.

PENCIL HEADS - CREATIVE WRITING GRADES 4-5All kids have a story to tell and we want to help them write it! We will help kids unleash their imaginations onto the blank pages and discover the fun that can come from writing! THE WONDERS OF WRITING! GRADES 2-3Young authors wanted! Everyone has important stories to tell. In this class, students will have fun developing their best ideas while still addressing Common Core Writing Standards. Let’s inspire one another to create exciting new tales! Students who love to write and students who are afraid to pick up a pencil will love this popular class. All students, new and returning, are welcome.

FILM & PHOTOGRAPHYiPHOTOGRAPHY GRADES 6-8Take pictures with your high tech* device and do old school projects with your photos. In this course, you won’t just take the pictures, you will create and set up the shots and then put together projects that you’ve never thought possible! We’ll combine art with DIY (do it yourself) in not only creating a conversation piece with your photos, but in the presentation and framing to share with your family and friends. Bring your imagination, out of the box thinking and creativity! *Android and iPhones, DSLR cameras and digital cameras welcome.

YOU’RE A MOVIE CRITIC GRADES 6-8Do you enjoy watching movies? Learn to critique movies like a movie critic? Watch and enjoy movies from past and present and learn to observe, compare and contrast them with a critical eye. Movies will be shown on a large screen with popcorn, just like your favorite movie theater!

GEOGRAPHYOUTBREAK - SURVIVE THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE GRADES 6-8When the zombies attack, where will you run, where will you rebuild your life? These questions are key to survival. Dead Reckon, a graphic novel will show one student’s use of geography skills to overcome the challenges of a zombie-filled world. Use these important skills and knowledge of geography to help you survive when the zombies come to your classroom in this interactive simulation.

MATHEMATICSALGEBRA MYSTERY MAZE GRADES 6-8Develop confidence in solving algebraic equations and word problems quickly and accurately. This FAST-PACED class is designed as an interactive simulation of teams traveling through a maze to make Algebra interesting, fun and challenging. This class is geared towards children with advanced math skills who know their order of PEMDAS operations!

MATH CHALLENGES USING ALG AND GEOM GRADES 6-8Develop problem-solving, visual-motor and creative thinking skills while solving challenging and fun math projects. Usealgebra and geometry to design flat patterns that fold into everyday three-dimensional objects. Apply your mathematical skills to solving equations that will lead you on a race around the globe

MATH FUN! GRADES 2-3Have fun and build your mathematical confidence! This is a hands-on, center orientated, math game class that will get your mind racing! Use basic math skills and problem solving to improve mathematical reasoning. Use your knowledge to find the answers to math puzzles, brainteasers and to solve prob-lems. Have fun working individually and in small groups on math challenges and math games to give your brain a workout!

MATH-PROBLEM SOLVING AND FLUENCY GRADES 4-5Using technology, expand your creativity and fine-tune your problem-solving skills, all while collaborating with classmates to create a variety of digital presentations. Explore with Nearpod, Kahoot! and more. Come have fun and create digital memories that you can share with friends and family.

IT’S ALIVE: BIOLOGY GRADES 4-5A hands-on Biology and Earth Science class. Come and join us for an exploration of our living Earth as we get up close and personal with living organisms such as bacteria, insects, amphibians and reptiles. We’ll use microscopes, conduct experiments and have hands-on experiences with cow’s eye dissections, bacteria experiments, worm races and more in this lively, discovery-learning class.

GARDEN CRITTERS GRADES 2-3What can be more interesting than bugs? Be a naturalist and explore snails, roly-polies, lady bugs, life-cycles and much more. You will experience live critters and keep a journal of your findings. Bring your curiosity and observations skills to learn more about the garden and the world around you.

HANDS ON SCIENCE GRADES 2-3Students will explore laws of gravity, motion and magnetism. Learn about chemical reactions by mixing this and that and more! Learn about elements in the most creative way with buckyballs, organisms and yeast! Join the adventure and learn about scientific investigation, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, math and paleontology. Your students will love this fun and educational class!

PHYSICS WITH AN EGGS-TRAORDINARY TWIST GRADES 6-8Using the everyday egg, take on several design challenges to understand the concepts of motion and mass. Spin, toss, race, and design eggs with your team to better understand how physics plays a part in your everyday life.

SCIENCE OF THE HUMAN BODY GRADES 4-5Take a closer look at the microscopic mechanisms that make humans tick. You will examine the complexities of human anatomy and physiology with engaging hands on activities and experiments. Unravel the mysteries of how your bones, muscles, heart and lungs work seamlessly to keep your body healthy.

SPEECHDEBATE - PERSUASIVE SPEECH GRADES 6-8Debate enhances reading comprehension, increases GPA, strengthens confidence, communication and leadership abilities! This course will cover debate strategies and structure. Students will learn to become experienced presenters and be able to understand both sides of an argument.

SPEAK UP! GRADES 2-3It’s time to let your personality shine! This public speaking class offers opportunities for students to develop confidence in their ability to speak in front of others in a supportive and collaborative environment. Key components of effective public speaking will be introduced and refined by students as they stand front and center on their own and in small group settings. STEP UP TO SPEAKING GRADES 4-5Step up to speaking will increase your student’s confidence in all aspects of public speaking. Students will practice storytelling, class presentations, and debating. The goal of this class is to show students that public speaking can be fun and non-threatening. We will discuss the characteristics of being a good public speaker, play public speaking skill games and par-ticipate in short group and individual oral presentations.

THEATER ARTSDRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA! GRADES 2-3Lights, camera, action! This class offers you the opportunity to make characters come to life through scripts, movement and imagination. Students in this class will have the chance to learn basic acting skills while playing drama games, reading scripts, using simple props and costumes. Practice different strategies to use expression when reading and acting in char-acter. Perform individually, with a partner and as a class. Build your self-confidence and public speaking skills in a fun and safe setting. Come out and play!

WRITING, READING AND VOCABULARYCREATIVE WRITING GRADES 6-8Develop your creativity and improve your writing skills. Demonstrating clear organization, proper grammar and usage, imagery, setting, plot, characterization, realistic dialogue, the revision process and techniques to free the imagination are exciting writing skills. If you want to become a better writer, this class is for you! All levels are welcome.
