Solemnity Of The Most Holy Trinity

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, On the weekend of June 23rd there will be a second collection for St. Vincent de Paul. We would appreciate any offering you could make. Even though Silicon Valley is one of the richest areas in the world, many families and individuals in our community and in our parish have been left behind. Hous-ing particularly is very expensive. When a setback in their lives occurs they strug-gle to get back on their feet and pay their bills. They come to St. Vincent de Paul for one time help and support. Our small group of volunteers evaluate each request thoroughly to ensure that your money is used in the most effective way possible. Last year over $22,000 was given to the needy by Queen of Apostles St. Vincent de Paul 71% went towards rent and deposits. 12% for food this includes the over 400 clients at Thanksgiving. 10% towards utilities 5% for miscellaneous ( medi-cine, etc.) 2% for transportation ( bus tokens, car repair, gas, etc.) Your generous support has helped many families and individuals get through short term difficult times. Please make your check payable to Queen of Apostles and on the memo line enter SVdP. We appreciate your generosity. Extra envelopes will be available at the en-trances to the church. Thank you each and everyone for your continued support. Thank you, Terean, Shannon, Valerie, Nancy, Dave

Annual Native American Fundraising Drive

Our parishioners have been so generous in supporting the Native Americans in Shiprock, New Mexico and in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. We thank you so much. Recently we have found that other parishes in the area are also

helping the Shiprock parishioners. However Sacred Heart parish in South Dakota is in need. Pine Ridge Reservation of the Lakota/Sioux in South Dakota is the poorest reservation in the country. Sacred Heart Catholic Church serves the Pine Ridge Reservation in a number of ways. Peo-

ple come by every day for food and money to help with rent or electricity, especially in winter. Their current needs are for a paved parking lot, community garden, and help for the many poor families. Unfortunately due to recent political changes, they have lost a large grant that was used to help out with the electric and heating costs for the pookota. We will be accepting donations through the month of June. Thank you for all your support. Social Justice Committee

Franz Jaggerstatter

A relative unknown, Franz Jaggerstatter led a rather routine life in his village of St. Radegund in Austria in the 1930’s. He was a man caught in a cruel trick of life – to choose between his family and his conscience. He was ordered to join the Nazi armed forces but refused because he thought the Nazis were evil and killing was wrong. He could have agreed to serve and his family would have been fine. But as it was, he refused to join and he was ultimately killed for his beliefs. His family suffered without a husband and father. In his “statement of position” he wrote – “The true Christian is to be recognized more in works and deeds than in speech. The surest mark of all is found in deeds showing love of neighbor. To do unto one’s neighbor what one would desire for oneself is more than merely not doing to others what one would not want done to oneself. Let us love our enemies, bless those who curse us, pray for those who persecute us. For love will conquer and will endure for all eternity. And happy are they who live and die for God’s love.” Franz gave his life in opposition to war. He wanted peace with all his heart and died because of his ac-tions.

Taken from A Passion for Life, by Joan Chittister How can we, in our daily lives, choose peace? When a decision needs to be made, how do we listen to Christ’s teachings and to our conscience?
