St. Monica Parish was founded in 2013 by Bishop David
Zubik. The clergy and people of four parishes, representing
eight previous parishes, bravely accepted the call of the
Bishop to cooperate as people of faith in the power of the
Holy Spirit to Build a Church that is Alive! Christ has
asked this parish to be born so that the Faith may continue
to be proclaimed and lived in the upper Beaver Valley. The
Holy Eucharist has been praised and adored in this area
since 1854. St. Monica Parish with the assistance of our
Patroness, and her son St. Augustine, will continue to
spread the Catholic faith and to be the light of Christ to all
that we meet.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP
We will be starting our Summer Youth Group Schedule and will have Youth Group twice a month throughout the sum-
mer. We will meet this Sunday evening, June 14th, from 6:30-8:30! Bring a friend! All 8th-12th graders are
welcome!

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
(RCIA): Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Have you been Baptized but never received Holy
Communion or Confirmation? RCIA is adult faith forma-tion for those interested in becoming Catholic or for those
who have not completed their religious instruction and sac-
raments. Furthermore, anyone who wishes to learn more about their faith may attend. The next RCIA sessions will
begin in August with an informational meeting on Sunday, August 2nd at 9:00 a.m. in Mary’s room. For more informa-

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Dear Fellow Parishioners: THE YEAR IN REVIEW: Reflecting on my first year as your principal and looking back on this 2014-2015 school year there are many events that never surfaced here in my bul-letin notices. We endured stumbling blocks beyond belief. We lived through St. Mary/Divine Mercy church building being raised; our boiler died and during the end of the installation of the new boiler, the weather was so cold and without heat we had to cancel a day of school; we had frozen downspouts backup and leaked into the gym damaging newly painted walls and buckled the gym floor; our clean-ing lady fell on the job and was out of commission for a couple of months; we attracted media coverage of an in-jured worker during the demolition of the church; and due to a zoning issue, the Cuddlebugs Day Care had to close their doors. And despite all of this we continued to count our blessings. We tripled our mission money, we jumped rope for the Heart Association, had our yearly Mathathon for St. Jude Hospital, ran laps for the Relay for Life and the Cancer Association, and raised funds for our Mission Dio-cese in Chimpote, Peru. We collected Hats for the Homeless and canned goods for local families and food banks. We had service days and caroled in nearby nursing homes. We had successful Lenten Fish Dinners, two lottery ticket sales, a magazine sale, poinsettia sale, candle sale, mum sale, hosted a men’s Holy Smoke event, and offered Market Day every month. We continued and excelled in our academic excellence, took field trips, experienced theater at Lincoln Park, went to
the movies, traveled to Florida and New York, had numer-
ous events such as celebrating our 125th Jubilee, had nu-merous performances-The Glory Of Christmas, a Christmas
pageant, The Living Stations, Steelpan Ensemble perform-ances, band concerts, celebrated Catholic Schools Week,
had a talent show and an art show; we celebrated Father
Schreck and Father Naugle’s birthdays, drew winners for Random Acts of Kindness, and had pizza parties.
We had an Advent Retreat and a Lenten Retreat and prayed and sang every morning in the main hallway. We
attended weekly Chapel Liturgies and Mass monthly at the Parish.
None of this could have every been accomplished without
the faithful support of our families, faculty, and staff who sacrifice so much and always do what ever is needed so
that we can remain and flourish in this blessed atmosphere that we call Saint Monica Catholic Academy. We really are a
family. OH! I didn’t even mention that with all the obstacles
we encountered this year, we were still able to overcome them all, AND our enrollment increased with a new student
nearly every month! So it could not be truer to say as Fa-ther Schreck so eloquently says……”the miracle continues.”

MISSION APPEAL-DIOCESE OF LEXINGTON, KY
Sr. Kathleen Weigand OSB is a Benedictine Sister with the Mt. Tabor Benedictines, in Martin, Kentucky. She will be
speaking to us this weekend of June 13th on behalf of the Mission Diocese of Lexington, Kentucky. Sr. Kathleen is
originally from Pittsburgh and moved to Kentucky in 1979
to volunteer with the Christian Appalachian Project. In 1985 she joined the Mt. Tabor Benedictines Sisters in Ken-
tucky and has been the Executive Director of St. Vincent Mission, Inc. located in David, KY for the last sixteen years.
St. Vincent Mission is an outreach organization that helps the poor with a Food Pantry, Emergency Assistance, Educa-
tion, Counseling, Sustainable Agriculture, Home Repairs to
substandard homes of the low income, elderly and disabled. Please be as generous as your needs permit to help the
Mission Diocese.

The Pilgrim Madonna will be at the home of Carolyn Engle (724-846-0061) this week and at the home of Maria Brock-

HOLY NAME SOCIETY
There will be a meeting for St. Monica Holy Name Society this Sunday, June 14th in Mary’s Room at 10:15am.
We will be discussing our summer plans at this meeting.
PRO-LIFE EVENT Baby Bottles have been distributed. Please use these bot-
tles to collect your loose change and return them next
weekend, Father's Day, June 21st. All proceeds for Pro-Life activities, such as supporting the 2016 March for
Life and the Knights of Columbus Ultra Sound Initiative. Please support the Right to Life fundraiser sponsored by K

ETHNIC DINNER TICKET SALES Tickets will be sold after all Masses this weekend, June 20th & 21st for our First Ethnics Dinner that will be held Sunday, June 28th from 1:30pm-6pm in Founders Hall. This will be a Stuffed Cabbage Dinner. Cost of the dinner is $5 for chil-dren and $10 for adults.

Enjoy a night of Bingo each Thursday at Founders Hall, Chippewa site. Early Birds start at 7:00pm and
Regular Games start at 7:30pm and there is also a Cov-erall game that pays a minimum of $250 up to $1,000.
Bingo on the "Cookie Jar" number can pay as much as $500.
We have a "Winner Take-All” game, various 50-50 split the pot special games and a large selection of Pull Tabs. On the
last Thursday of each month we have a drawing and one bingo player in attendance will win Free Bingo for
a Month. Our Kitchen is open and the coffee is always free.
SAINT MONICA’S WOMEN ALIVE IN PRAYER
Come, join Saint Monica’s Women Alive in Prayer. There is power and enjoyment in women discussing the Bible read-
ings and homily from the previous Mass. We learn about Jesus, we share different books and authors. We pray for
each other and others. If you have a need or a problem,
bring it to the group. Or get to know a woman in the group and talk to her after the meeting. We will meet the first
& third Mondays of the month at 7pm in Joseph’s Room. We are of different ages and growth in Jesus.
THE LEGION OF MARY The Legion of Mary is an international lay apostolate group,
composed of men and women seeking to serve the parish and community through the Spiritual Works of Mercy (i.e.,
religious education, visiting the homebound and imprisoned,
friendly evangelization, etc.) and to grow in devotion to Je-sus through Mary. We are welcoming new Active (able to
attend weekly meetings and complete assigned work) and Auxiliary (offering daily prayer support for the Legion)
members. Please feel free to join us for a meeting
(Tuesday evenings at 7 pm in St. Joseph’s room) or contact Ann at 412-401-6056 ([email protected]).

These words sum up what it means to be part of the Church Evangelizing in the parish, if you are interested in expressing
your friendship with Jesus through fellowship, prayer, study and reaching out to others, please consider joining a small
group dedicated to being and making friends for Jesus. We meet each Wednesday at 12:30pm in Mary’s room.

CEMETERY NEWS
ST MARY CEMETERY NEWS
The chapel at St. Mary Cemetery is open Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:00pm. The chapel at St. Mary
Cemetery is also open most holidays. A list of holiday hours along with dates and times of current funerals is posted on
a sign located at the entrance of the chapel. Anyone wish-
ing to pray or meditate is invited to and always welcomed at the St. Mary Cemetery chapel. Vases are permitted during the summer months.
ST JOSEPH ADORATION CHAPEL
The Adoration Chapel is located at the Chippewa site church building, accessible from the rear parking lot. The
Chapel is open continuously from Sunday 1:30pm through Saturday at 4pm. Registration links and info. can be found
at www.saintmonica.us under the Adoration headings.
ROSARY CENACLE
A Rosary Cenacle is held every Monday at the Chippewa site at 9:30am at the request of the Blessed Mother. God
wants her to have this power, but she requests our prayers to assist her. All members are invited.
CATHOLIC MEN’S FELLOWSHIP The Catholic Men’s Fellowship will be meeting the first and
third Sundays at 9am in Joseph’s Room, Chippewa.
BIBLE STUDY MEN’S GROUP
Will meet in Mary’s Room, Chippewa the second and fourth Saturday’s each month beginning at 7:15am.
We will be discussing The Joy of the Gospel.
BAPTISM PREPARATION CLASSES Baptism Preparation Classes will be held on the first Sat-
urdays of each month at 11am at the Chippewa Site,
by Deacon Harry DeNome. Please call the parish office to set up baptisms and register for the class.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MEETINGS
The Beaver Valley Council 604 of the Knights of Colum-
bus meets for their monthly Planning meeting on the 2nd Monday each month at 7pm and on the 4th
Monday of each month for dinner at 6pm and the Rosary at 6:30pm followed by the meeting at 7pm. Both
meetings are held in the first classroom of Founders
Hall. We invite all men of the Parish to join our ranks as we continue to support our Bishop, Priest, Parish and
community.
PARISH NEWS
VSP - BOX TOP & LABELS FOR EDUCATION PROJECT
The VSP Box Top Project has been very successful. Each box top earns 10 cents for St. Monica’s Catholic Academy.
In addition to that project, the VSP will collect Labels for Education. Labels are on Campbell’s soups, Post cereals,
Glad storage bags, and more. The UPC must be on the
label to count. Labels earn points toward art and gym sup-plies. Please clip your box tops and labels
and deposit in boxes at any church site. Thank you for your support.

START WITH PRAYER Bishop David Zubik is inviting all Catholics to take part in a
dynamic planning initiative called On Mission for The Church Alive! Three Evenings of Prayer will be held this
summer to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The first
session, an Evening of Adoration with the theme, What Am I to Do? will be held on Wed. June 24, 7 p.m. at 12

GET ACQUAINTED DAY OPEN HOUSE ST VINCENT
Juniors and Seniors and their families are invited to Get Acquainted Day Open House at St. Vincent College, Latrobe
on Saturday, June 20th, July 18th, August 15th. Each Get Acquainted Day begins with buffet breakfast and regis-
tration from 8:30am-9am. The day will conclude at noon.

SAM (SUBSTANCE ADDICTION MINISTRY) Sam is a program of the National Catholic Council on Addic-
tions, an affiliate of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.
This new ministry, being established in the Diocese of Pitts-burgh, is to offer hope, healing and reconciliation to both
the afflicted and affected. Sts. Peter & Paul, Beaver, is the host parish for SAM in our Vicariate. Please join us on the
first Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm for recita-
tion of the Rosary and Mass at 7pm at Sts. Peter & Paul Church. Fellowship will follow in the school cafeteria with
light refreshments.
