What a spring it has been. In early April many of us were enjoying a wedding here at Oakdale and then left the church building to some crazy severe weather that dominated our thoughts throughout that Saturday evening. Not too far away from us several tornadoes hit rural communities causing incredible destruction but by God’s mercy, no loss of life. Since then we have heard the news and seen the pictures and videos of staggering destruction and deaths caused by tornadoes in North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and now most recently in Missouri, Minnesota, and Oklahoma. So the question has come to me a few times. “What is going on?” “What is God trying to tell us?” “Are we in the end times?” Lets together listen to what Jesus would say to us in His Word about this. First, we live in a world that has been cursed because of our sin and rebellion. Creation in many ways is now working against us (see Gen. 3:17-19). We are not able to have dominion over creation, and so tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes can dominate and destroy us. We have absolutely no control over these things, we are just simply at the mercy of God. Which leads to the answer of the next question. There are over a thousand things that God is communicating to us through these disasters, but I will focus on one main one. We are and always have been living only by His mercy (Acts 17:28, Heb. 1:3). With each death we hear about, or sudden calamity that has befallen a group of people, God is using those events to humble us and call people to repentance. In Luke 13 we see Jesus being faced with these kinds of questions about a group of Jews who were slaughtered by Pilate, and a tower that collapsed and killed 18 people. Jesus’ answer, “Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.” Those people didn’t die because they were worse than other sinners, or those that didn’t die were better because they are still alive. No, we all deserve death and hell for our sins, so therefore we must repent and seek to be reconciled to God before death finds us. Next time the tornado hits, it could be our home and our lives that are taken. Finally, yes, we are living in the end times (see 1 Cor 10:11, 2 Tim. 3:1-9, Heb. 9:26). Jesus is coming soon. We must prepare ourselves, and help to prepare others. May we live each day in anticipation of His tri- umphant return, and may we be about the work that He has given us to do until He comes. Making disciples and teaching them to obey all that He has commanded. Longing to see Him along with you, - Pastor Clint

Clint’s Corner: God and Tornadoes.

May we live each day in anticipation of His tri-umphant return, and may we be about the work that He has given us to do until He comes. It's coming!

Mark your calendars for the Oakdale Retreat at Hidden Acres

on August 20th and 21st. You don't want to miss it! Worship, fellowship, food,

and fun for all ages.

My family and I are charter members of the Creation Museum (creationmuseum.org), a ministry of Answers in Genesis

(answersingenesis.org) located outside Cincinnati Ohio. As part of our membership we have 4 membership tickets that get us in free. We would like to offer our tickets to anyone from Oakdale who would like to visit the museum. You can easily spend a day there and it would be an ideal trip for a

long weekend. The museum is surrounded by beautiful grounds and gardens which include a petting zoo. Inside the museum visitors are challenged and encouraged to trust the veracity of God’s Word from the very 1st verse in numerous ways, including through His creation of the heavens and the earth, through the history of man, and through the story of

man’s redemption – all confirm that His Word can be trusted. One of our favorite parts of the museum is the planetarium

and its AWE-INSPIRING presentation “The Created Cosmos” – the vastness and variety of the universe is highlighted, giv-ing all the glory to our all-powerful Creator! Please contact

Blaine or Audrey Adamson if you’re interested.

If you have been on our website recently, you have probably noticed a few changes. At times our homes are in need of some remodeling and updating and it is the same for web-sites. Oakdale’s web presence has been completely remodeled. I encourage you to check it out by going to www.oakdalechurch.com on your computer’s internet. A website is a great way for us to communicate with people looking for information about us. From church members wanting to know what time an upcoming event starts, to someone moving into the area and looking for a church home. When you get onto our new website, be sure to check out these great features: The News and Events page. Click on News and Events on the bottom of the screen at the home page and you will be able to read about some upcoming ministry opportunities and events here at Oakdale. If you click on the items listed on the page you will be provided with more information for each event. You will also find a link on this page to my new Blog: Clint’s Corner. Maybe you don’t know what a blog is. A blog is a website which someone uses to display information that interests them, or to write articles commenting on what is on their minds, or what is happening in the culture. It’s kind of like a newspaper editorial section, with me being the sole editor and writer. I will use my blog to write about what’s on my mind and in my heart. I will post personal information about my family. I will also use it to point others to good resources that will help them in their Christian walk. With everything I do with it I hope to be edifying to all who take the time to read it. You can find my blog at www.oakdalepastor.blogspot.com You

can even subscribe to it and you will be sent an email each time I post something new on the blog. You can do that by typing in your email address on the front page of the blog (on the right-hand side). Under the homepage there is also a page titled, “Announcements” This is an important page because it is on this page where you can check to see if we have canceled a worship service or activity due to questionable weather. Thankfully we are past the winter weather insecurities now, but if the weather is not good, check the “announcements” page. NEWS Under this heading you will find our weekly bulletin that we will update every Friday, and our recent newsletters. ABOUT US has our church’s Statement of Faith and Mission, so people will be able to clearly see where we stand. SERMONS If you click on SERMONS you will be able to download or listen online to any sermon you’ve heard at Oakdale in the past year. CALENDAR Click on CALENDAR and follow the instructions and you will be taken to an updated church calendar for 2011. If you are trying to schedule an event and you are looking for open dates, go to this calendar and you will be able to clearly see if there is anything already scheduled for the days you are considering. Special thanks goes out to De Tjossem for doing much of the work in designing the new website and for much encouragement in helping us get started on it. We hope it will be a blessing to you. - Pastor Clint

John Piper, in the study guide Why We Believe the Bible

We will be going through John Piper’s study Why We Believe the Bible this Summer in Adult Sunday school, beginning June 5.

“The purpose of this (course) is to help you part the philosophical fog and delight in the cast-iron reliability of the

Word of God. Paul had similar desires for Timothy when he wrote, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profit-

able for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). Our prayer is that

you would feel the life-giving nature of these words and say of the Scriptures, “More to be desired are they than

gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings from the honeycomb” (Psalm 19:10).

“After all, the stakes are high. Paul said all Scripture is breathed out by God. Peter said Jesus had the words of

eternal life. If they are right, then to reject the Scriptures is not simply being misinformed. It is suicidal. May God

be pleased to use this (course) to protect thousands from stopping their ears to his voice and to cause them to heed

the words of Isaiah: “Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your

ear, and come to me; hear, that your soul may live” (Isaiah 55:2–3). (Piper, p. 8)
