Collaborating with Faculty
Some faculty will be very open -- even excited -- about the opportunity to link course content to daily life and lifelong learning!
Those faculty could use this as a teaching moment, requesting a response paper on the forum.
(Certainly, you all know at least a couple of these..?)

Timing, Timing, Timing!
Consider break schedules: not too close to break, as students may be leave early...
And they may not be back on the Monday after break, either!
Avoid midterms, finals, sporting events, previously scheduled event series, etc.

Money?! What Money???
Family can be cheap! Consider small bribes.
Friends and others may be bought with the promise of dinner out and that line they can add to their CVs.
Once you’ve done it a few times, your institution may pony up. Use the foot-in-the-door technique!

Money?! What Money???
Library discretionary funds…
Investigate institutional grants or sources for visiting speakers.
Don’t be afraid to ask!

“This presentation also made me realize the importance of checking my own sources when I write a paper or do another project.”
“This will affect the way I search items on the Internet in a big way. I will no longer just assume something is a good source because it is about the subject I typed in to research.”
