We have a variety of new adult nonfiction books that I hope in-trigues you to use your church library Author Squire Rushnell ’s after school specials on ABC have won him many Emmy’s. He has also written a series of books demonstrating how God speaks directly to us. The first book titled When God Winks at You (248.32) uses coincidence to speak to us and Divine Alignment shows how the arrange-ments of these happenings into a pattern directs the path you may take. Adam Hamilton in the book Making Sense of the Bible (220.61)will help you rediscover the power of scripture in today’s life. The Handbook of Fighter Aircraft, The Book of Energy and Electricity and Magnetism in our science section deals with the history of and the present day use of each of these subjects. The photographic story of Thomas Edison combines the above 2 subjects. Last, but not least, Once upon a Game fits this season in a great review of baseball’s greatest memories. We also have some new adult fiction books. Two by Dan Brown, The DaVinci Code and Inferno will give you some pretty excit-ing reading. Clara and Mr. Tiffany by Susan Vreeland, is based on the famous glassmaker and his wonderful employee. Most books in the adult library can be read both by teens and older, but the ones on the youth shelves have been written for middle school and high school readers specifically. Diary of an Early American Boy by Noah Blake takes place in the early 19th century and will take you into a premodern world to a time of great inventions. Do you think you’d like to live in an underground shelter for 6 years? Fallout by S.A. Bodeen will take you on this scary ride. Another scary adventure is This Book is Not Good for You by P. Bosch. Read and see if you could help them solve the mys-tery. Susan Cooper has written a 5th book in The Dark is Rising Se-ries . Can this group of teenagers save our world from evil? Great for summer reading. All above books will be on display on the new book shelf outside the library!
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
Annually, the Renaissance District of United Method-
ist Women (UMW) does an ingathering project as a
support for organizations that work with women and
children.
This year, our UMW are collecting diapers and wipes
for PR Kids, a Maternal Infant Health Program, which
provides parental support for pregnant mothers and
infants in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb Counties.
The team from Infant Mental Health Specialists tries
to find community resources as well as answer ques-
tions and provide overall support. They service moth-
ers with children from birth to 18 months.
There will be a playpen set up in the Narthex to col-
lect wipes and diapers of all sizes. Although this is a
UMW project, we are asking for total church participa-
tion in this ingathering project.
The collection will run from July 23rd to September
17th.
For more information, please contact Nancy Cormier
(248) 879-0233.

Refugee Resettlement Project: Welcome Home Update
Here is a quick list of what we have so far accomplished in helping our Sister-in-Christ and her three children -
*Rent - the biggest source of stress is having enough money to pay the rent. Our BBUMC RR Committee is paying June-Aug rent and providing budgeting mentoring to Mom. *Household donations - all of the items generously donated by BBUMC were brought to the family. Our gifts have been put to good use and have filled her sparse apt. *Bikes - we were able to acquire a couple gently used bikes and Wally Gannon donated a new Barbie trike for the three children. All were delivered (with bike helmets) and have been enjoyed almost 24/7. *Summer Playground - BBUMC will be enrolling the school-aged children in a local summer school camp pro-gram. *ESL - BBUMC will be providing regular transportation for Mom to ESL classes weekly. • We are also addressing health issues for both mom and her oldest child (daughter) by accompanying them to doctor visits and hopefully mentoring in this area as well.
****If you would like to get involved, please email Michelle Haight at [email protected].
