The first had a terrible situation during his lifetime, but the second enjoyed all this world has to offer. Their circumstances, however, were reversed after their deaths. In the Hadean realm (which no longer exists – talk to me if you have questions), people could see and talk to each other across a wide chasm which separated them. Now in the place of torment we hear the rich man exhibit four attitudes the Lords people need today. MERCY: Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool off my tongue; for I am in agony in this flame,(v. 24). This man desires in death that which he him- self was unwilling to offer during his life, (see vs. 19-21). Mercy is a quality Jesus showed (Mark 5:19), and which we should offer to others as well, (Matthew 5:8). MISSIONS: Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my fathers house,(v. 27). The sending of people to reach the lost has been a part of Gods plan since the church began. We ourselves are called to be missional (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15), and we are called to send others too, (Romans 10:13-15; 3 John 4-8). PREACHING/TEACHING: I have five brothers – that he may warn them, lest they also come to this place of torment,(v. 28). Today God s people are called to warnothers (family, friends, etc.) lest they spend eternity in the place of the lost! This warningof others is not popular. You are just trying to scare people! But those in a place of torment what others to know that they should be afraid of spending their eternity in such a place! CONCERN: But he said, No, Father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’” (v. 30). Sadly, the rich man s concern about eternity came too late for himself. The Lords people today must demonstrate a genuine concern for the people in our lives. For indeed, everyone will spend their eternity somewhere. We have the message that can assure they will spend it with Jesus! Regarding this last point, someone has come to mankind from the dead, but far too few will listen to Him and repent, (see 2 Peter 3:9). Yet for those who truly listen and respond, Gods plan will be for them to miss the eternal agony of torment, and enjoy the bliss of His presence, (see Acts 2:36-41). 4 Attitudes in Hades We Need in the Church

In Luke 16:19-31, Jesus tells of the fate of two men who died. The first had a terrible situation during his lifetime, but the second enjoyed all this world has to offer. Their circumstances, however, were reversed after their deaths. In the Hadean realm (which no longer exists – talk to me if you have questions), people could see and talk to each other across a wide chasm which separated them. Now in the place of torment we hear the rich man exhibit four attitudes the Lord’s people need today.

MERCY: “Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool off my tongue; for I am in agony in this flame,” (v. 24). This man desires in death that which he him-self was unwilling to offer during his life, (see vs. 19-21). Mercy is a quality Jesus showed (Mark 5:19), and which we should offer to others as well, (Matthew 5:8).

MISSIONS: “Then I beg you, father, that you send him to my father’s house,” (v. 27). The sending of people to reach the lost has been a par t of God’s plan since the church began. We ourselves are called to be missional (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15), and we are called to send others too, (Romans 10:13-15; 3 John 4-8).

PREACHING/TEACHING: “I have five brothers – that he may warn them, lest they also come to this place of torment,” (v. 28). Today God’s people are called to “warn” others (family, friends, etc.) lest they spend eternity in the place of the lost! This “warning” of others is not popular. “You are just trying to scare people!” But those in a place of torment what others to know that they should be afraid of spending their eternity in such a place!

CONCERN: “But he said, ‘No, Father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’” (v. 30). Sadly, the r ich man’s concern about eternity came too late for himself. The Lord’s people today must demonstrate a genuine concern for the people in our lives. For indeed, everyone will spend their eternity somewhere. We have the message that can assure they will spend it with Jesus!

Regarding this last point, someone has come to mankind “from the dead,” but far too few will listen to Him and repent, (see 2 Peter 3:9). Yet for those who truly listen and respond, God’s plan will be for them to miss the eternal agony of torment, and enjoy the bliss of His presence, (see Acts 2:36-41).

Our Christian Walk

Paul prayed that we would "walk in a manner worthy of the

Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work

and increasing in the knowledge of God. May you be strength-

ened with all power . . . for all endurance and patience with

joy, giving thanks to the Father" (Colossians 1:10-12). Let’s

look at this scripture in comparison to our lives. Hidden in this scripture we can find words than might provide some

help. Increase in the knowledge of God will help us in

gaining spiritual wisdom and under-standing." Paul uses in

Ephesians 5:18; "Be filled with the Spirit." When you're filled with the Spirit, he governs

your choices. Similarly, when you're filled with the knowledge of God's will, your

choices reflect godly wisdom and understanding. As you saturate your mind with God's Word, it begins more and more to control your thinking and behavior. And the Spirit

uses the Word to renew your mind and to protect you from falling into the ways of the

world. We all know that all the knowledge of the scriptures is useless in our Christian walk, if we don’t apply it to our lives. Every farmer who enjoys a plentiful harvest does

so only after diligent effort on his part. He must cultivate the soil, plant the seed, and

then nurture it to maturity. Each step is thoughtful, disciplined, and orderly.

How do we allow Jesus to influence our lives?

In what way does He live in and through us?

If these two questions above, seem difficult or confusing to you, you aren’t alone. Many

people never fully realize how powerfully Christ could demonstrate His life through

them. This is because many believe that the key to living the Christian life starts with a deep, intimate relationship with Him. Therefore, to answer the first question: How do

you allow Jesus to do this? You must realize the answer comes by working on your

relationship with Christ. You do this through Bible study, prayer, worship, and fellow-

ship with other believers. You not only learn about Him, but you must also listen to

Him, because He will teach you how to love Him, live for Him, and walk in His ways.

The answer to the second question is a little harder to explain. In what way does He

live in and through us? This is as unique as each believer who follows Him. The reason

for this is because He has a special purpose for your life, and the most important thing

you can ever do is simply obey Him no matter what He tells you to do. God will allow situations and troubles in your life that only He can solve. This is so He can demonstrate

His glory, power, love, and wisdom through you. So, the choice is ours and ours alone.

A lifetime of earthly living or an eternity with God.
