Ladysmith Days serves up summer funLooking for a week-

end full of sum-mer fun? Look no

further than Ladysmith Days Aug. 2-3!

An annual event that has been celebrating all things Ladysmith for more than 40 years, the two-day festival features a huge range of activities in downtown Ladysmith and at beautiful Transfer Beach, including live mu-sic, a parade, fireworks, games and more.

Ladysmith Celebra-tions Society president Barry Frech is excited for some new additions and the return of old fa-vourites this year.

He says there will be a new, larger slide at Sun-day’s Kids’ Zone, and la-ser tag and the climbing wall will be back.

Frech is looking for-ward to hearing Kenny McCoy perform right be-fore the fireworks.“He does country west-

ern and old-style music, and he just mixes it up,” he said. “It should be good entertainment for everybody.”

Frech is also excited to see the Ladysmith Has Talent contest return.“That should be enter-

taining,” he said. “People really enjoy it.”

One new, highly-antic-ipated activity this year is the Zucchini Races, being held Saturday, Aug. 2 at 5 p.m. at Transfer Beach. Registration is at 4 p.m., and participants need to build their own zucchini racer with four wheels and two axels that go through the zucchini. There will be cash prizes in four age cat-egories (six and young-er, seven to nine, 10 to 12, and over 12) and for the best dressed zucchini racer in each category.

The Bullhead Derby is back Saturday from 7-9:30 a.m. at the Ladysmith Maritime So-ciety Community Marina.

Fuel up for a fun day with the Rotary Pancake Breakfast, starting at 7 a.m. at the Ladysmith and District Credit Union (LDCU) parking lot. Dur-ing breakfast, we’ll learn who is Ladysmith’s Citi-zen of the Year at 10 a.m.

Saturday is parade day. The theme for this year’s Kinsmen Parade is “Ladysmith Has Sum-

mer Fun,” and it starts at 10:15 a.m. For infor-mation and a entry form, visit www.ladysmith-kinsmen.ca.

After the parade, it’s the 49th Parallel Grocery Family Fun Day at Ag-

gie Field from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring games and entertainment.

Starting at 3 p.m., the fun moves to Transfer Beach. Members of the Nanaimo Boat Modellers Club will hold demon-strations and share their displays, while Rick Douglas will be here with his remote-control logging equipment.

Ladysmith Has Royalty and Ladysmith Has Tal-

ent will once again be held at Transfer Beach, with Ladysmith Has Roy-alty at 3 p.m., and the tal-ent show right after.

Four audience mem-bers will be chosen at random to perform four simple tasks. The win-ner and his or her fam-

ily will be declared the Royal Family

age categories, and win-ners will get a chance to perform the next day.

From 4-6 p.m., en-joy old-fashioned fam-ily games by the Kin Hut, sponsored by Oceanview Community Church.

Once again, there will be a Beach Party from 6-8 p.m. at Transfer Beach, featuring music by Luv Train and a deli-cious meal from Crafty Cuppa Café for $10.

On Sunday, Aug. 3, the

Ladysmith Eagles are hosting a pancake break-fast from 8-11 a.m. at Eagles Hall to start the day on a high note. The Eagles will also host a steak BBQ from 4-8 p.m.

The day’s events at Transfer Beach begin at 10 a.m.

There will be food and craft vendors, and the Nanaimo Boat Modellers Club and Rick Douglas will be back.

Sealegs Kayaking is sponsoring free kids’ kayaking from 10 a.m. to noon, as well as a sand volleyball tournament.

The LDCU is sponsor-ing a Kids’ Zone full of fun activities, and there will be a petting zoo and pony rides from Tiger Lily Farm, sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2101.

Ladysmith Parks, Rec-reation & Culture is spon-soring kids’ games, and there will be laser tag.

There will be music at the amphitheatre from 10:45 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
