Welcome to Sizzler! We are very excited to welcome you to Kansas City for our tenth annual Sizzler User Conference! During the next few days, you will have the chance to share ideas and network with more than 700 peers in higher education as well as iModules team members. You’ll learn how other organizations are successfully using Encompass to meet their goals and leave with new ideas you can implement at your institution. With more than 40 presentations, you’ll be able to attend sessions that apply specifically to your organization’s needs. iModules product experts also will be available to talk with you one-on-one about upcoming enhancements to iModules’ Encompass platform, you’ll learn about strategies related to constituent engagement, and you’ll have opportunities to provide product feedback. While Sizzler 2016 allows us to learn more about your institution’s goals and successes, it’s also a chance for you to learn more about our growth and future plans. For more than 14 years, Encompass has served as the leading online constituent engagement platform for higher education. While we’re proud of the service we’ve provided, it’s time to focus on modernizing the platform. During the next few years, we’ll be dedicating significant engineering resources to the goal of making the platform more visually appealing, functional, and stable. Due to the breadth and depth of Encompass, this effort can’t be made overnight. However, the end result will be a dramatic improvement for your staff, volunteers, and constituents. We’re also proud that this year marks the ninth anniversary of the iModules Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships for students enrolled at client institutions. With more than 6,000 applicants to date (and nearly 900 applicants this year alone), we are honored to continue our tradition for the 2016-2017 academic year and award 17 students with scholarships totaling $25,500. We believe helping students to further their education is one of the greatest gifts we can give back to our clients and the communities they serve. Due to your dedicated efforts, Encompass continues to surpass previous years’ numbers in nearly every category. Milestones from the last year include: • $311 million in client revenue processed (new all-time high) • 1.04 billion emails sent • $230 million in gift dollars processed • 768,000 separate gifts • 3 million event registrants I continue to be honored to have the privilege of serving you, our valued clients. Thank you for allowing all of us at iModules to share in your success and we hope you have an exceptional conference experience.

Cheers to Sizzler 2016!

Sincerely,

Fred Weiss President and CEO of iModules

How to Market Your (Hopefully) Viral Video Series

Jennifer Tanaka | Northwestern University Lauren Lakomek | Northwestern University Anticipating the marketing campaign for this year’s reunion events, Northwestern University produced a video series called “Cats in Carts.” In the series – filmed during the previous year’s reunion – seven alumni were interviewed about their time as students while touring the campus in a golf cart. This presentation will walk through the production of this series, how to choose individual subjects, plan for the day of shooting, and market videos through social media and email promotion.

PurdueConnect: A Donor Relations Self ServiceBecky Johnson | Purdue Research FoundationPurdue alumni and friends can take advantage of special benefits and time-saving resources by logging into PurdueConnect. Learn how the Purdue Research Foundation created new endowment and tax summary fields to decrease costs of sending out endowment statements and tax forms.

MUBecauseofUNicki Russell | Miami University Suzanne Clark | Miami UniversityAs a way to thank alumni at Thanksgiving and recap favorite moments from 2015, Miami University created #MUBecauseofU. Featuring 12 (one for each month) of the school’s proudest moments and using an iModules-created template, the email was sent to a special list of donors and volunteers before Thanksgiving.

Stretching Encompass for a Custom FitMatt Bain | Georgia Tech Alumni AssociationSara Blanchard | Georgia Tech Alumni AssociationLearn how Georgia Tech Alumni Association was able to utilize Encompass to handle its annual Student Alumni Association kickoff. This involved using features of Encompass in unconventional ways to handle in-person registration for almost 4,000 student members/donors over the course of a few hours. The new process helped make an efficient and stress-free day, resulting in a 17% increase in registrations from the prior year’s kickoff.

Thanks to big data, inexpensive sensors, and powerful analytics, Disney has total situational awareness of every customer interaction. Casinos routinely “intervene” to keep guests from becoming frustrated at runs of bad luck. Telcos use social media to map and score customer satisfaction in real time. The University of Kentucky uses predictive analytics to monitor student progress toward stated educational outcomes in real time. Constituent expectations have changed. How institutions create and sustain relationships is evolving.

To quote President Barack Obama, “…our world is wealthier, healthier, better educated, less violent, more tolerant, more socially conscious, and more attentive to the vulnerable than it has ever been.” The challenge facing institutional leaders today is about the choices we make to ensure that constituents in the future will continue to seek deep relationships with our institutions.
