Policy Review - Grade Center Policyhttp://kc.fiu.edu/blackboard/blackboard-grade-center-policy/
Instructional designers may access the Grade Center, create and manipulate grade columns, and set up calculated columns and total columns. Instructional designers are restricted from entering student grades and may only clear grades upon written (email) confirmation from the faculty member. Faculty members are ultimately responsible for verifying the accuracy of all aspects of the Grade Center, including calculated column formulas.
Canvas Pilot Updates
Canvas Pilot Updates● 90 courses were selected and faculty accepted for Fall
Pilot; 15 of which are web-assisted● 6 Canvas training opportunities are currently being
held by the T&L team for Pilot Faculty/Program Staff○ 4 out of 6 have passed; the next two are
August 3rd @ 10am and August 16th @ 10am● Support Cases for Summer B have mostly been login
and technical cases● Reach out to an IDM with any questions
Seating Updates Coming
Seating Updates ComingNew Hires - 1 New CD, 2 New IDAs, 1 New ID, Oh my!
And there’s an ID position currently open; 6 CD positions currently open; 2 more ID positions posting soon
Where will they fit? Seating changes are coming to keep the instructional design and development teams together on the 6th floor.
This may start before July 31st when the new hires will begin their first day of work.
More information will be coming soon!
OpenStax Partnership /Affordability Counts
New Committee Members: Claudia, Shannon, Shara
● 150 current Affordability Counts courses● FIU selected as one of 11 schools in the 2017-2018 OpenStax Institutional
Partnership Program● Partnership will help us increase the use of OER on campus
○ receive individualized consulting on OER strategies○ develop customized strategic plan○ participate monthly calls with other schools to ask questions, discuss
challenges, and get ideas and guidance from the community● last year’s participants impacted 18,000 students and saved $1.7 million

IDA Committee• Who: IDAs - participation is voluntary• What: compile ideas and research on skillful use of tools and
related pedagogy• Where: results highlighted on a newsletter or infographic,
showcasing tools• When: first meeting July 18th; committee meets once per term;
newsletter/infographic goes out once a month• Why: help IDs tackle the two lowest-performing items on the
ID surveys - innovative tools and online pedagogy
