From the Library
From the Shelves My book club recently read The Sea Keeper's Daughters by Lisa Wingate. It's the story of Whitney Monroe, who's struggling financially while trying to keep her restaurant afloat and open a second one. When her stepfather's unexpectedly hospitalized, Whitney sees it as a good opportunity to travel to her late grandmother's former hotel and look for valuables among her grandmother's and her late mother's possessions, which are now rightfully hers. During her search, she uncovers a family secret which causes her to look at her grandmother in a different way. She also learns new things about her mother and her mother's relationships with Whitney's late father and stepfather. Check it out for yourself in our church library. -Beth Waters
The Glyndon Area Players (GAP) is a theater-in-residence at Sacred Heart Parish in Glyndon, Maryland. Founded in 1998, GAP was established as a creative outlet to show-case the talent of the Glyndon, Reisterstown and the surrounding Maryland communi-ties.
Since its humble beginning, GAP, The Thea-ter Company Built on a Dream, has grown to be one of the premier theater companies in the Baltimore region. Each year, thou-sands come to see the lively, professional shows that are its hallmark. With incredible casts ranging in number from thirty to eighty and in age from eight to eighty, ex-pansive and authentic sets, professional sound and lighting; GAP brings family fa-vorites, as well as cutting-edge shows to life each August, making GAP a truly unique and affordable theatrical experience.
None of this would be possible without continued support of our local community.
COMMUNITY NEWS
Book club will meet at the home of Brenda Soskin for a cookout on
Wednesday, July 19. Time and what food to bring will soon be planned. We will discuss Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye. This is a murder mystery but we know who the murderer is. It is a "remake" of Jane Eyre which tells the story of another orphan who thinks she could be the right-ful heir of her childhood home. The current owner is seeking a gover-ness. Sound familiar?
Library Log 1. We have several new books for your summer enjoyment. Just look for "summer" in the titles. 2. Don't forget about the UMW reading program. Your list is due to Brenda Soskin by early September. 3. The History and Records cabinet in the corner of the library is now finished. We will be hearing more from that committee about what will be available to us in the near future.

Christ’s hands In World War II, bombs destroyed a church in Strasbourg, France. As parishioners cleared
the rubble, they discovered a statue of Jesus that was now missing both hands. A visiting sculptor later offered to make repairs, but church members declined, saying Christ “has no hands to minister to the needy or feed the hungry or enrich the poor — except our hands. He inspires. We perform.” St. Teresa of Avila wrote:
Christ has no body but yours; no hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes with which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now but yours.

Annual Children’s Consignment Sale – AUGUST 26th
Want to help raise funds for youth scholarships, youth work campership,
local and worldwide missions? Volunteer for the Children’s Consignment Sale this August.
This year’s sale is on Saturday, August 26th.
We need volunteers to help Wednesday, August 23
rd in the evening to set up
Friday, August 25th
in the afternoon and evening to sort sale items
Saturday, August 26th
we need room assistants, sorters, interpreters and cleanup crew Your support of this event not only raises funds for God’s work but also provides com-munity families with the chance to clothe their kids, provide them with books to read or toys to play with for a fraction of the cost of these items found in department stores. Volunteer Sign Up Sheets located at the RUMC Welcome Center. Contact Bon-nie Lieberman at [email protected] or 410-313-9496. Thanks in advance for your support!
Do you Like to Cook? Looking for an evening out with dinner? We are currently looking to replace some of our Kiwanis cooking teams. Our church has had an on-going relationship for over 50 years with the Kiwanis Club.
Twice a month on Tuesdays, they hold their meetings at our church and we cook dinner for them.
The Kiwanis Club pays for these dinners and all of that money is used for missions.
The money supports the Crisis Center, the Food Pantry, a sponsored child, youth scholarships and
more.
After many, many years of devoted service, several of our teams feel it is time to step down.
We are looking for new kitchen leadership.
What is involved?
We have a rotating schedule, so you would only be on duty once every other month.
We cook and serve dinner for approximately 18 people.
If you are interested in this wonderful outreach,
please contact Lani Hoffmann at 410-526-6967

MEN’S Small Group Study Wednesday Night!
June 21 we started a new 8-week summer book study called Christian: It's Not What You Think by Andy Stanley. In the book, the author examines the characteristics Jesus used to define those who follow him and the implications they have for believers today. It promises to be an interesting read and the basis for some great discussions. Please consider joining us for this Bible study. All men are welcome; no prior knowledge is required. We all come humbly seeking a better understanding of God's Word. Come as you are...whenever you can. We invite you to join us!

Sidewalk Prophets in concert August 26th
to benefit Every Child is Worthy Ministries (ECW), helping disabled orphans around the world through outreach, restoration, and the message of Jesus Christ. ECW is partnering with Church of the Open Door in York, PA to present Dove Award winning artist, Side-walk Prophets and YouTube sensation Christopher
Duffley for an evening of story-telling, music, and fun! Sidewalk Prophets is a contemporary Christian music band from Nashville, Tennessee. They have toured with Matthew West and Casting Crowns. Their album These Simple Truths contained the single "The Words I Would Say" and earned them a Dove Award for Best New Artist and a nomination for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year. "The Words I Would Say" reached No. 3, and "You Love Me Anyway" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Christian Singles chart. In 2011 they were nominated for Group of the Year. Their current album, titled Something Different, includes “Prodigal”, a top 5 hit. Christopher Duffley is a motivational speaker who happens to be blind and living with autism. Born prematurely, Christopher weighed only 1lb. 12oz. at birth and was rendered blind before he was 5 months old. Overcoming many challenges, Christopher’s musical gift emerged when he was seven. Major media outlets have featured Christopher’s story and he became a YouTube sensation when the video of Open the Eyes of My Heart became viral in 2012 and has reached over 9 million views. On behalf of Every Child is Worthy (ECW) Ministries, we would like to invite you to join us in an opportuni-ty to engage with the special needs community. ECW is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to making a lasting impact on the uniquely-abled community by providing financial solutions, resources, and training to empower the local church, non-government organizations, and institutions working with families of the special needs community. ECW strives to ensure no family is marginalized, but is instead equipped with the resources they need to stay connected within their local community. We hope to maximize the opportunities to hear the Gospel and experience the amazing love of Jesus with partner-ships in Ukraine, Zambia, and north Africa. This event was created not only to bring awareness to ECW, but also to highlight what God can do in the life of a special needs child. Event details:
