Hi everyone,

Wonga UK, the ―Straight talking money‖

lending firm who infected the UK with its

‗million pound profit per day‘ business

model after its American parent company

had its license restricted for failing to

comply with USA‘s banking rules has

had a slap on the wrist. Not being able to

trade the way it wanted to in the USA it

simply moved to the UK.

Remember when ‗Call me Dave‘ was

going to clamp down on pay-day-loan

companies charging excessive interest

rates, some as high as 4000% plus APR ?

But then he didn‘t.

Remember also The Church of England

threatened to start up a rival pay-day-loan

company in the form of a credit union to

force Wonga into lowering interest rates

until it was revealed that the C of E in-

vests part of its vast wealth into Wonga to

create even vaster wealth in return. You

Bishops, what are you like?

Most recently Wonga was ordered to pay

£4.6 million compensation to 45,000 cus-

tomers. It transpired it falsely implied that

debt collection letters being sent out,

were from two firms of solicitors.

Namely, Chainey, D‘Amato & Shannon

and Barker and Lowe. Mmmm they

sound like solicitors to me, so, will the

real Chainey, D‘Amato, Shannon, Barker

and Lowe please stand up? Aha, it seems

that these people are merely names of

menial employees taken from Wonga‘s

payroll list.

Managing Director Ms Tessa Cook

(Wonga UK) said ―These practices are

firmly in the past and have no place in

our business today‖. But they did once.

―Straight talking money‖ ?

SUMMER SHOW

We‘re looking forward to some really

good entries in the Summer Show this

year. The fruit is abundant, veggies are

growing well and flowers are spectacular.

However, nature can be cruel, so please

no droughts and not too many deluges

before 16 August.

It only costs 20p per exhibit, so how

about putting something in yourself?

If you have never exhibited before, there

will be lots of us around to give you some

help with setting up, and if you find any

of the instructions in the schedule confus-

ing, you‘ll find telephone numbers for the

committee members at the front of it, so

just give one of us a ring for an explana-

tion – I promise that none of us bite!

If you‘ve exhibited with us before, do

come along and do so again.

There are classes for vegetables, fruit,

flowers, cookery & preserves, crafts,

flower arranging and photography.

If you have children or grandchildren,

why not encourage them to enter some of

the children‘s classes, which include

making a scarecrow (max. 1m tall) out of

recycled material, a photo of a flower,

5 jam tarts, and a 6 + line sample of

handwriting. Children‘s entries are free

and there are sections for the up to sev-

ens, 8-10‘s and 11-16‘s.

The Show is in the Civic Centre on

Saturday 16 August, setting up is from

8.30, doors open to the public at 1.30

(entry free), and prize-giving is at

approx., 4pm.
