The Foundation Celebrates! On Thursday, June 13, over 100 Foundation employees celebrated the beginning of summer, the end of the CSU Audit, and the Fiscal year close at the Foundation Welcome Summer Party. In the late afternoon, Foundation employees gathered in Building 55 for the festivities, which included music, food, drinks, dessert, and social merriments.

Kellogg West Catering served a tasty Santa Maria style barbeque complete with tri tip, chicken, coleslaw, corn on the cob, rolls, salad, and more. Oh, and the desserts! Kellogg West Catering provided tasty individual square cakes in a variety of delectable fl avors.

“The atmosphere was casual and fun!” said Executive Administrative Assistant Debra Poe. “All of this would not have been possible without the approval of our Executive Director Paul Storey. Thank you, Paul!”

In addition, the 4/10 schedule commenced the week that the Foundation Welcome Summer Party took place. Thus, after the party ended, Foundation employees were able to journey home to their three day weekend—the perfect way to end the work week.

2013 Summer Orientation Fairs

The Foundation has made its return to the Summer Orientation Fair for both freshmen and transfer students. The fi rst fair of the year commenced on Thursday June 27 in the BSC’s Ursa Minor, and will continue every Wednesday and Thursday through August 29.

Just like last summer, the Foundation booth promotes www.BroncoChannel.com, a student-friendly website that highlights the Foundation’s services.

In order to draw traffi c to our website, we are echoing last year’s strategy, and conducting a Bronco Channel Giveaway. During the orientation fair, we hand out campus maps with a Bronco Channel Giveaway code attached; this prompts students (and parents) to log on to BroncoChannel.com and enter their code to see if they are a winner. Winnings include Bronco gift cards, BroncoGear, free food, and the grand prize—an iPad Mini.

In addition, we are also marketing Bronco Channel by distributing bag clips that feature the name of the website and its slogan, “Your Guide to Cal Poly Pomona Foundation’s Services.” Bronco Channel is also displayed on banners around the booth and on our workers’ t-shirts.

We hope our efforts continue to increase traffi c and awareness to BroncoChannel.com.

The Village Gets Mocked!s cialageBy: Lily Ly & Darren Isomoto

Summer is the perfect time to introduce new students to the

amenities and benefi ts of living at the University Village. A print ad may display various messages as to why the Village is an affordable and convenient option, but nothing grabs the attention of prospective residents like walking by an actual apartment bedroom setup—that is exactly what our team did.

We put together a mock-bedroom display in the Bronco Bookstore Atrium, giving passersby a chance to visualize what their University Village apartment room could look like. The apartment room features actual furnishings from the Village apartments, including a bed, desk and dresser. Additionally, we outfi tted the furnishings with other decorative elements, including lights, rugs, foliage, books, and more.

Another benefi t to having a showroom-style setup versus a print ad is the opportunity for social media or viral marketing. As we were putting the fi nishing touches on the mock-bedroom, students were already pulling out their mobile devices and taking pictures of what was essentially a large advertisement for the Village. In today’s social world, there’s a good chance that any photo taken will be tweeted, posted, shared, or tagged somewhere on the Internet. Thus, it only made sense for us to prominently display the hashtag “#LiveAtTheVillage” in the mock-setup, so users would be encouraged to attach the hashtag to their shared photo. Spreading the University Village tagline is truly benefi cial, as it allows us to track its reception and response.

Marketing Director Edwin Santiago completes the fi nishing touches

Foundation I&IT successfully upgraded the Odyssey server (Bronco Card System) in mid-June to improve its overall performance. The upgrade provided enhancements to the system that make the Bronco Card more functional, reliable, and manageable.

According to Dining Services Interim Director Aaron Neilson, the upgrade will allow Dining Services to provide a new array of innovation to the campus.

“I want to express my gratitude for the smooth and timely upgrade of Odyssey. There were a lot of moving parts, and all of the parts seemed to work seamlessly together,” expressed Aaron. “I’m very excited about the possibilities this upgrade opens up to us all.”
