Circle shaped similar to the objectWitness in Poland observes UFO

    Witness: Jerzy Szpulecki, Wylatowo,Poland ,

    Event Date/Time: July 21/22, 2000,approximately .12:15 AM.

    Event Duration: About 7 minutesEvent L o c a t i o n : Wylatowo. PolandInterviewed by: Nancy Talbott on Jul y3 1 , 2 0 0 3 " .Video Operator: Milosz KussTranslator: Slawek Paruszewsk iI n the early morning of July 2 2 , 2 0 0 0 ,Jerzy Szpulecki, a farmer in this rur-al area of central Poland, was work-

ing late at night on a new house he wasbuilding on the edge of a wheat fieldfarmed by his neighbor, Tadeusz Filipczak.

At 12:15 AM the lights in his house sud-denly went out, and he came downstairs tocheck for a shorted circuit or other pos-sible cause. As he reached the first floorhe could see, through the large windowsin the front of the house, that all of th estreet-lights on the nearby road were also

out, and that there were no lights in housesnearby.

Almost immediately he then saw a"strange" red light in the sky coming downvery slowly toward the field in front of hishouse. The light was a very bright red, spherical in shape, and about 65 ft. in di-ameter. When first seen, it was about 1500feet above the trees on the left side of thefield.

As the light came closer he saw whatlooked like a turbule nt and rotating misty"white fog" above the red light which, asthe object descended about 250 feet out in

the field and directly in front of his win-dows, then appeared to be "some type ofcraft."

As it got closer it banked at an angleand continued to descend to the field, butvery very slowly . At this point the glow-ing, bright red sphere seemed to be an outershell of some sort, surrounding an innerwhite mass of fog, which w as constantlyswi rlin g or rotating within the red sphere.

As this strange object got closer to theground it began to enlarge into a much b ig-

Drawing by Szpulecki of a brilliant red, slowly moving object, with rotatingwhite fog-like material inside, as it came across the road & over the field.

ger, but still round, object and seemed to"discharge something into the air aroundit." Szpulecki says that he thinks the "craft"was the "color of the white mist" (mean-ing that there was a white foggy material

swirling around an actual solid craft, allof which was now inside the red sphere). He also had the impression that the sur-

rounding red shell was "driving" the ob- ject inside.

As the object descended to about 60 feetabove the ground he began to notice a"pressure" on his bod y, and as it got closeto the ground sparks erupted, "like a short-circuit. When it touched down there werebri lli ant flashes, like lightning."

And as it landed, multiple "arms" sud-denly extended out of the cen ter of the ob-

ject, slowly bending down to the ground.

At this point the red glow became so bright"it was hard to watch because it hurt myeyes." .

There seemed to be four of these "arms"(tentacle-like protrusions, which angleddown toward the ground), and which wereall the same length and bluish in color-and on the ends of each of the "arms" therewas an even brighter, round, violet-coloredlight-ball.

These violet ligh t-ba lls were the bright-est part of the w hole object and were "very

dif fic ult to watch" because the brightnesshurt his eyes.Szpulecki was not comple te ly certain

about the n umber of these protrud ing armssaying first that there were four of them,

but later saying there may have been fiveor six. His primary impression, though, was that there were only four.

At this point the witness noticed thatthere were at least three cars stopped onthe road next to the field, their occupantsapparently also watching th e object. Thenext day he heard from other villagers that"many" people had seen the glowing redball of light as it crossed the sky he adingtoward the field..Szpulecki reports that the object sattouching the ground for "at least a minute,"with sparks flying and giving off an intense

light, and that it was durin g this time thathe became aware of a physical "pressure"on his body.

This sensation of something pressing onhis body, and partic ularly on his head, wasnoticed most as the "arms" were extendedfrom the object as it settled down to theground. Even though o nly the top hal f ofhis body was exposed to the windows, heis sure that he felt this strong pressure allover.

    He reported no typical electromagnetic

effects (such as the hair on his arms, orback of his neck rising), and did not havea headache. He states that he smelled noth-ing unus ual and heard no sound at all dur-ing the entire episode.

On an insti nctual level he was certainthat this "energy" (as evidenced by boththe brilliant light being given off by theobject, and the pressure on his body) wasnot harmful to people.

Afte r what the witness states was abouta minute, the pro truding arms retracted andthe object, whose white swirling centercontinued to rotate constantly inside the redouter shell, rose in to the air a few meters, and then descended into the field again a"short distance" away.

Again the "arms" (with the brill ian t vio-let spheres of lig ht on the ends) protrudedout of the object, bending down to theground, and again he fe lt a very strong pres-sure on his body, particular ly on his head.

"Many sparks" also accompanied thissecond landing of the object, but this timeSzpulec ki states that they were "returningto the mist" instead of coming from it-thatthe sparks were coming up to the objectfrom the g rou nd .

Finally, after sitting on the ground thissecond time for about a minute, the armsagain retracted and the "red shell closedin again around the w hit e center" so thatall he could see at this point was the redbal l ofl ight.

The whole object started to rise, becom-ing smaller in overall size as it rose. Itsred glow, "like a bri lli ant sunset," becameso intense that it lit up the room in whic hthe witness was stand ing. S lowly, it sim-ply drif ted away across the fields and dis-appeared in the distance. Szpulecki esti-mates the amount of time that had elapsedfrom wh en he first saw the object to whenit disappeared as about 7 minutes.

Whi le interv iewing Szpulecki (and onthe videotape), it was apparent that he wasstill markedly moved by his recollectionof this experience three years earlier.

Since the electricity in the house wasstill out Szpulecki went back upstairs toretrieve his wris twatch before returning tohis home and discovered that it had stoppedat 12:15 AM, the time when he believedthe power had been interrupted.

Because it was obvious that the wheatfield was not on fire, and because he hadnever heard of a crop circle (and therefo redid n't thi nk to check the field for one), hereturned to his home in the village.

The next morning a neighbor, whosehouse also faces the field in which the ob-

ject had landed, informed Szpulecki thatthere was a strange markin g in the wheat

field-a pictogram-style crop circle whichwas, as it turned out, flattened into the

wheat in the precise location where theamazing object had landed the night be-fore.

Furthermore, the design of this picto-gram (described by the neighbor as "some-thing like a cross") was strikingly similarto the w i t n e s s ' description of the strangeobject itself with its "arms" extended, end-ing in the smaller violet light spheres onthe ends of each arm.

    In another field on the north side of theroad (only a few meters away) an addi-tional 6 0 - f o o t - d i a m e t e r ringed circle wasalso found. Both men struggled to grasp

the signific ance of the symbols, but wereunable to understand the meani ng of thesigns.

To our knowledge this is the only re-port of its type in the crop circle lite rat ure ,the only time in which the lan ding of sucha complex visual object has resulted in acrop circle which appears to replicate, inthe laid crop, the observed geometic as-pects of the object i tsel f.

It is also the first eyew itnes s account ofa crop circle forming in Wylatowo, al-though in 1973 a flattened circle was re-ported in the v ill age of Zabno, about 5 km

away, which was created by a "metallic,disc-shaped object" descending in to a ryefield there.

It should probably be reiterated, how-ever, tha t none of the W ylatowo residentswe interviewed knew about this earlierevent in Zabno, nor of the crop circle phe-nomenon gene rally, prior to Szp u lecki ' sexperience in 2000.

It was Szpulecki's neighbor ( w h o didnot witness the events of the n igh t befor e)who first found the Wylatowo crop circleand who told Szpulecki the morning afterthe event.

He also presented the information t hatthe electricity throughout the area was notworking, and that many local trucks andcars also had dead batteries.

Later in the day the power companybegan working to repair the electric lines, reporting that the power was out in theentire area. They apparently were neverable to figure out the source of the powerfai lure .

And over the next week or so it waslearned that all the vehicles (cars, trucks,

tractors) within about a 1500-foot areaaround the field also had battery failu re.

Reports began to surface from otherpeople who had seen the object while itwas in the air, but it may be that Szpuleckiwas the only eyewitness to its actual de-scent and l and ing-a t least the only localwitness.

It is unlik ely that the vehicles which hesaw stopped on the road next to the fieldwere driven by locals (most of whom arefarmers who are usually in bed by th istime), and it is thought instead that theywere driven by tradesmen traveling longdistances through the nigh t.

Whether these vehicles were stoppedbecause of battery failure is not known.Szpulecki does not remember if they werestill present when he finally went homeafter the incident.

Two or three other crop circles wereeventually discovered in the Wylatowoarea during the summer of 2000, and in

subsequent summers the phenomenon hascontinued to produce crop formations inthese same Wylatowo f ields (and in a fewother areas of Poland).

These seem to be both t h e m a t i c a l l ysimilar to the original cross-like designfound in 2000 and to exhibit a specificoverall design character unique to Polishcrop circles.

On June 27,2001, a crop formation wasagain found in exactly the same locationwhere Szpulecki had seen the firey red ob-

ject land in 2000. This formation was agood deal more complex in design, and ap-

peared to be an elaboration upon the origi-nal cross pattern. In the second half of July, 2002, Milosz

Kuss, a local boy from a village not toofar from Wylatowo, discovered a cropcircle in his uncle's fields.Milosz ' family, like others in this re-mote region, had experienced severalhighly unusua l events themselves over thepast several years (one of which is detailedin BLT Report "UFO Incident & TraceAnalysis, Golabki, Poland-1998," postedo n the Jeff Rense website atwww.rense.com/general49/blt .htm)

Milosz had heard reports of theWylatowo crop circles. His drawing (atright) of the 2002 circle on his uncle 's farmalmost exactly replicates the object whichSzpulecki described landing in Wylatowoin 2000.

The crop circle phenomenon, by itself,is an ongoing mystery. Peer-reviewed sci-entific research (see "Published Papers"@ www.bltresearch.com) on a variety ofplant and soil changes found in crop circlesprovides strong evidence that the majori ty

    UFOs and Crop Circles

Gravitational field common to bothBy Dr. Frederick E. Alzofon

Copyright 2004 by Frederick E. A lzofonA sh and Hewitt in R e f l claim (author'scomments are in square brackets):"The real problem with UFOs [and cropcircles] is not a shortage of evidence, butrather the absence of any scientific expla-nation for their existenceand behavior. It is diffi-cult if not impossible toaccommodate UFOs[and crop circles] in ex-isting scientific think-ing."

It is the purpose of thisarticle to show how bothUFOs and crop circles

can be explained as twoaspects of a single tech-nology: the control of thegravitational field, i.e.the ability to either de-crease or increase thegravitational force actingon any object.

The technology can be reproduced withexisting and readily available instrumen-tation.

A principal difference between terres-tria l and alien use of the technology is thelesser power available for the terrestrial

version. In principle this difference can beeliminated.

It will follow that if crop circle genera-tion can be instrumented, it will constitutea demonstration of the validity of the UFOphenomenon.

The un ifying technology, moreover, canbe explained in readily understandableterms: there is no need to use highly ab-

    Dr.Frederick Alzofon

stract or complex theories. In addition, with off-the-shelf equip-

ment, one can generate phenomena simi-

lar to those associated with UFO and cropcircle observations: a decrease or an in-crease in the gravi tational force.

With a small investment in learning themeaning of a few un famil -iar terms, the lack of under-standing the UFO and cropcircle phenomena can betraded for what promises tobe a basic insight into theorigin of these phenomena ,and the possibility of fur-ther development of a newtechnology.

If the proposed modelsfor the phenomena prove tobe correct, then there willno longer be an impen-etrable alien mystery: thealiens will have been dem-onstrating the new technol-ogy for many years.

The technologyTo understand how gravitation can be

weakened or strengthened, it is only nec-essary to understand a simple analogy withhow some materials can be cooled using amagnetic field.

Paramagnetic salts are composed ofmolecules that are very small magnets. Ifa magnetic field is applied to such materi-als, these molecular magnets line up in thedirection of the magnetic field.

During the alignment , the salt will heatup somewhat. If we wait unt il the materialcools off (the magnetic field is still ap-plied) and then quickly remove the mag-

netic field, the salt's surroundings will cooto a temperature lower than it had beenbefore the magnetic field was applied.

This is because the heat energy of thesurroundings becomes depleted in the process of disorienting the oriented molecular magnets. It is worthwhile to examinethe foregoing process more closely:

In general, heat is essentially the random motion of molecules composing materials. If the chaotic motion of the molecules is reduced, the temperature of thematerial falls. If the chaotic motion increases, the temperature rises.

In the cooling process described abovewhen the molecular magnets move into theoriented state they give an extra kick to

the chaotic motion of the molecules and totheir chaotic energy. Their orientation persists while they are otherwise moving randomly.

Because of the added energy, the temperature of the salt rises. The extra heat iseventually lost to the surroundings in contact with the salt.

If the magnetic field is now quick ly removed, the molecular magnets preservetheir orientation along the former directionof the magnetic field until the jostling theyreceive from the chaotic motion of the sur-roundings disorients them. In so doing, th esurroundings loses some of its energy andits temperature drops.

The above described process is called"cooling of paramagnetic salts by adiabaticdemagnetization."

The two effects, the heating and cool-ing, are closely analogous to the processused for UFO propulsion and the genera-tion of crop circles.

    Cooling of the surroundings corresponds

He recently submitted a paper to thePhysics Essays journal which containedsome of the experimental technology mentioned in his article. The data was gener-ated over more than a three-year period.

to a decrease in the gravitational force andheating corresponds to an increase of thegravitational force.

To carry out the analogy, we first haveto select a suitable material. Instead of ori-enting molecular magnets, we wi ll be ori-enting nuclear magnets (according to themodel of the gravitational field presentedin Reference 2).

The nuclear orientation, in turn, willorient a cloud of electrical particles sur-rou ndin g the nucleus ; this cloud is held tobe responsible for the origin of the gravi-tational force. The atomic nucleus issmaller than the atom by a factor of100,000.

Aluminum and magnesiumReference to a table of nuclear magnetic

properties shows that two prime candidatescan play a role analogous to a paramag-netic salt: aluminum and magnesium. Theirnucl ei are strongly magnetic.

Aluminum is the more promising choice

since it is a better structural material andless flammable in air than magnesium.(Ref. 2)

There is a dif ference between the kindsof choices for magnetic materials used indynamic nuclear orientation and adiabaticdemagnetization. It is found that inclusionof small amounts of ferromagnetic ele-ments in aluminum, for example, will in-crease the efficiency of the process. (Ref.3)

Typical ferromagnetic elements that canbe used are iron and chromium. It is com-mented at this poin t that when some U F O sare viewed by reflected light, they exh ibitthe appearance of aluminum, or a graycolor like iron or a sheen like chromium(Ref. 4, p. 20), although these are not theonly colors which have been observed.

There is another differenc e: it is impor-tant to minimize heating effects in dynamicnuclear orientation.

One way of doing this is to use alumi-num in very finely divided form: composedof particles w ith a diameter of the order ofa millionth of a meter. In some experimentsperformed under my direction, the combi-nation of aluminum and iron was in the

form of particles of this size.UFOs have same problem

In practice, it was found that apparatusheating was also a problem. Both of theseproblems appear to occur for UFOs also(Ref. 4, p. 127). It is significant that whensamples of a UFO that disintegrated intoflaming pieces were collected, they werefound to be composed of magnesium (Ref.4, p. 127).

To cause the nuclei of aluminum (forexample) to become oriented, it is not

enough to apply a constant magnetic field. This method has been studied, but wasfound to be diff icul t to instrument. How-ever, the orientation can be accomplishedin a two-step method.

First a magnetic field is applied to agiven specimen; this causes the electronsin orbit around the alu minum nucle i to pre-cess around the direction of the magneticfield.

The strength of the field is held veryconstant. The frequency of the precessionis determined by the strength of the mag-netic field and is called the "Larmor fre-quency."

The desired p reces s ion .can also be in-duced by rotating aluminum about an axis. This method of causing precession is notemphasized in the present discussion, butis mentioned because a sound like a "loudturbine" has been reported associated witha UFO (Ref. 4., p. 43).

The generation of a constant magneticfield is more convenient an explanation forour purpose, since it figures in the creationof crop circles.

It was also more convenient for pur-poses of experiments performed under thedirection of the writer: in the experimentsthe strength of the field was about 3000gauss and the Larmor frequency was about9500 megahertz. This frequency is in themicrowave X band.

Ref. 4 reports observations of a UFOemitting radiation of this frequency (p. 96).Evidence of a magnetic field accompany-

ing UFOs has been reported (Ref. 4, p. 53).Once the electrons circu lating about the

aluminum nucleus have been set to process-ing, it takes a relatively small magneticfield applied at the Larmor frequency totip the electrons over and cause them tobecome oriented.

This process is analogous to causing achild's swing to gain large amplitudes ofswings if a periodic force is applied to itwhich matches its natural o scillation fre-quency.

The latter oscillatory magnetic field issuppl ied by a microwave generator, and is

    oriented so that the magnetic field is ap-plied at rig ht angles to the constant mag-netic field. Such microwave rad iation hasfrequently been observed in the presenceo f a U F O ( R e f . 4 , p . 9 6 ) .

Having generated the microwave radia-tion, we would expect the UFO to be de-signed to radiate it away.

Moreover, the o ccupants of the ve hiclewould need to be protected from the harm-ful effects of the radiation; hence thedouble-walled construction of UFOs, as

Teleportation of vehicles, as in thicase from Kentucky, has been reported

    in several UFO encounters.

sometimes reported, and what appears tbe protective clothing in some reports (Ref4, p. 114).

Once the electrons have been orientedthey penetrate close to the nuclei of the aluminum atoms and cause them to becomoriented. This, in turn, causes the cloud ocharged particles about the nuclei to become oriented.

The orientation process takes place veryquickly (in microseconds), and when th

microwave field is turned off the orientation is allowed to decay under the interaction with the gravitational field.

The latter process occurs in about 6 milliseconds for aluminum at room temperature (about 20 degr. C), although onlyabout two-thirds of the nuclei becomun o r ien ted in this time interval (Ref. 5, p83).

An undulating flight pathThe alternation of microwave on/of

cycles gives rise to the undulating flighpath often remarked upon (Ref. 4, p. 87)

    However, the remaining one-third o

oriented nuclei af ter each cycle of orientation and relaxation builds up a cumulativeffect, so that eventually there is a largpopulation of oriented nuclei, and the number that are relaxing at any given momenbecomes very large.

This effect enhances the loss of weighand expla ins why there is sometimes a delay in la unch ing a UFO off the ground.

In any case, having satisfied the requirements of the model described above, experiments w e r e performed under the d

"Insectoid crop circle in California.rection of the author, and the alternatingincrease and decrease in the gravitationalforce on specimens of alu minu m, as wellas the cumulative effect, were observed(pat. pending).

Along with the delay in lift-off, there isoften a rotation of some part of the UFOthat increases during this interval. This isto be expected, since the precession of theelectrons reacts on the vehicle to give it arotation in an opposite direction, and thismust be compensated in some way.

A similar effect occurs due to the rota-tion of helicopter vanes.

Reducing the we ight of the UFO is notenough to propel it (the short interval ofgravitational force increase, correspondingto the heating analogy, has not been dis-cussed, since it is much weaker than theloss of weight effect).

Variety of propulsionsThere are a variety of ways the propul-

sion can be accomplished. For example, the oscillating electric

currents used to generate the microwave

fields can be led through coils with adjust-able orientation. The interaction of the elec-tric current and the Earth's magnetic fieldwill generate a force to drive the UFO inany desired direction. Compressed gasesreleased through valves on the skin of theveh icle can also be used to drive the UFO.

There is another factor which has beenomitted above: the theory guiding thisanalysis (Ref. 2) not only predicts a re-duction in the gravitational force, but alsoa reduction in the mass of the vehicle.

This feature implies that there wil l be

large accelerations with small forces ap-plied. Since the effects described are dueto a field, the inhabitants of the vehicle willalso have a reduced mass, and the effect oflarge accelerations will not be harmful. Inany case, very large velocities for such avehicle can be expected.UFOs evidently are capable of gener-ating large amounts of power. Ref. 4 re-ports large amounts of radiated power: ofthe order of millions of watts (p. 98), i.e.comparable to the amount of power devel-oped by a diesel locomotive.

With so much power available, why notuse it to communicate with terrestrials in amanner that cannot be ignored?

Crop circle generationTo make a crop circle, the inverse of

the gravitational reduction process can beemployed. That is, in the analogy to heat-ing of a paramagnetic salt, the heating partof the heating/cooling cycle is emphasized, rather than the cooling part of the cycle.

Ref. 5, p. 4, indicates that iron has thedesired properties: the orientation interval

is much longer than that for relaxation. It should be remarked that, since an in-creased gravitational force acts upon allmatter, not just upon plan ts, we would ex-pect to see its effects on other materials inthe crop-growing fields. Indeed, flattenedanimals have been found in the crop circlearea (Ref. 6), as well as an increased crys-tallization in the soil, associated with com-pression and heating (Ref. 7).

Once having chosen iron particles, veryfinely divided to reduce heating effects, there is a p roblem of delivery of the par-

ticles. They would have to be deliverefrom a low a l t i tu de above the f ields in oder to avoid bein g dispersed by the wind

This im pl ies cons ider ab le ac t iv i ty ovethe fields before the crop circle i s formedIt is easy to imagine that the small lightoften reported over the fields prior to crocircle formation are the agents for spreading the iron dust (Ref. 6).

These lights are simila r to the "foo fighers" observed by aircraft personnel durinWorld War II; they are apparently unoccupied drone vehicles controlled remotel

The microwave radiation figuring in thprocess of the preceding section, and applied here for the inverse process, will heathe iron particles, but the heating will bconfined to small regions wit hin the paticles.

There is ample evidence that the headeveloped in the iron particles is enougto melt them. Surface tension then causethe mo l ten metal to gather into particles ovarying sizes, up to about 50 micrometer(Refs 6 and 8).

Although the temperature required tmelt iron is 1535 deg. C, the size of thparticles is so small that the amount opower required to melt the iron particle no more than about ten millionths of a wat

However, spread out over a crop circlof typical size, about eighty feet in diameter, the total amount of power required iof the order of megawatts.

The heating effect is not confined to iroparticles: it extends to pockets of moisturin crop stalks, vaporizing the water con

tent and blowin g out plant nodes, as weas causing other effects related to heatin(Ref. 7).

The application of a microwave field ba UFO could be carried out from a mucgreater altitude than the covering by irodust. In order to avoid b u rn ing the crops would be applied for a very short time.

It is also well suited for transmissiofrom a high altitude, since it penetrateclouds and rain (Ref. 6, p. 140). The largamount of power projected would cause thatmosphere through which it passed tglow. Such columns of light have been ob

served, extending from a high altitude tthe ground (Ref. 6).

The swirling of the crop circleThe vertical direction of the propaga

tion of the radiation causes another effecit is well known that the energy in electromagnetic radiation swirls about the direction of propagation, and this property coulcause the swirling pattern of crop stalks ithe crop circles (Ref. 6, p. 47). It is evdent that the crop stalk swirling takes placabout a vertical direction.

Crop circles in England are most fre-quently found in areas with underlyingmineral-laden w a t e r (Ref. 6, pp 120-122) .Such areas would be favorable to intensi-fica tion of the observed effects through re-flection of the incid ent radiation.

The "constant" magnetic field requiredfor the generation of the effects predictedby the model need not be strictly constant, since the generation of the crop circ le takesplace so quic kly (a few seconds).

A slowly varying field could be pro-jected along wit h the microwave radiationand need only hold its correct value for ashort time. It would leave lasting magneticfield effects: such effects have been ob-served (Ref. 6, p. 125).

    To be sure, there are many questionsleft unanswered by the above list of ob-served correlations between model predic-tions and o b s e r v a t i o n s . T h e s e questionscannot fai l to suggest many experimentaltests.

ConclusionsThe foregoing br ief analys is presents astrong case for vie wing UFO phenomenaand crop circles as two aspects of the samephysical processes, with both being gen-erated by the same agency.

If the model is accepted, it not only givescoherence to the many phenomena associ-ated with both, but also legitimizes UFOphenomena, which are more diff icul t toobserve close at hand .

Witness accounts then can be judgedagainst a more reliable standard, and notnecessarily dismissed as due to poor ob-

    servation.

    The UFO "breathing pool"

a rare feature of abductionsBy Preston E. Dennett

    There are many strange procedures

performed aboard UFOs, includin g physi-cal examinations, medical operations, baby presentations, emotional testing, pro-phetic warnings, and more. O n e ofthe rarest andmost bizarre pro-cedures, how-ever, is known asthe UFO breath-ing pool.

    These casesi n v o l v eabductees who

Preston Dennettare made to totallyimmerse them-selves in pools of unknown liquids. Theyare then firmly told to breathe the liquidinto their lungs.

At th is poin t , surpr is ingly , theabductees report that they are able tobreathe in the liquid with out harm.

This unique episode has only rarely beenreported, and investigators are not yet sureof its meani ng.

For a few experiences, however, theUFO immersion pools are a vivid and ter-rifying part of thei r contact wi th extrater-

restrials.David Jacobs, Ph.D., was one of the

first researchers to reveal this exotic as-pect of the UFO experience . As he says,"The aliens br ing the abductee into a roomwith a large tank or even a small "swim-ming pool" in it. The aliens tell her to getinto the tank.

"The liquid is clear, and at first glancelooks like water, but it is not water. Theabductee is told to submerge herself inthe liquid and stay there . She may bescared that she will drown, but the aliensreassure her that she wi ll be all right.

"She gets in over her head and then istold to breathe. She finds that she is ableto breathe normally, even though her headis unde r "water." Af ter a short time sheis told to get out. Sometimes the aliensdry her off, but most of the time they donot. T h e purpose of the pool procedureis unknown."

What exactly are the immersio n pools, and wha t is thei r purpose? An examin a-tion of the few known cases reveals somestartling patterns.

Case one: James AustinoUnder hypnotic regression, James

Austino recalled having this experiencedur ing an abduction in 1988. He was ledby several gray-type aliens into a four-foot deep tank of liquid. He was then in-structed to "lay back and just relax."

At that point, James felt himself be-come submerged. As he says, "That'swhen I feel like I'm going dow n. . . I justsink down to the bottom, and I start tobreathe. That's the neat thing. It makesyou numb , thou gh. It feels body tem-perature. But I'm breathing, whic h is re-ally strange. I hear sounds under water, like mechanical sounds. I'm just kind of

floating."James lay in the tank breathing the

strange liquid for a few more moments,at one point almost losing consciousness

Eventually, he is pulled out of the poolAs he says, "The water feels slimy now. When I come out it's still on my body; itdoesn't run off like water. You have totake your hands and slop it off."

Thi s case was investigate d by DrJacobs. He doesn 't list any more caseshowever, he does state that he has un-covered others.

    Case two: Kim Carlsberg

Profess ional photographer andabductee Kim Carlsberg has also reportedthi s unu sua l experience. In fact, one ofher early clues that she was having UFOexperiences involved bizarre dreams of thisnature-dreams of "being underw ater, and/or breathing underwater . . .of choking onthick substances, like mud."

One vivid example of this type of ex-perience, Carlsberg calls "fluid transition."She explains, "I had another haunting'dream' about breathing liquid. This timeI woke up in a mur ky ocean. Peeringthrough the cloudiness above my head, I

searched for the hidden presence that keptme submerged.

"It was strange that in the face of deathI was completely calm whe n I should havebeen panicking. My burning lungs beggedme to inhale and end the ir agony. I fin allylet go.

"As the water poured into my lungsmy spi rit rushed out of my body and roseto the surface of the ocean. From thatvantage point, I was looking back downat my body and the realization hit me: I

Page 10 MUFON Journal July 2004

    12/25

was still alive and so was my body, eventhough I wasn ' t in it!" Although Kim hasn'tbeen able to link her dreams to a specificexperience aboard a UFO, she feels thatthey are def ini tely related.

Case three: FredThe complete story of the abductions

of Fred is told in Karla Turner's bookInto the Fringe. Like Kim Carlsberg, Fred

has a long history of UFO encounters, coupled with strange dreams about beingable to breathe underwater.

Says. Fred, "I was in a pool of waterand I thoug ht I was going to drown. Idid not have a way out, so I tried to relaxand began breathing underwater. I wasshocked and didn't know what I was do-ing there."

Although Fred never uncovered furtherinformation about this particular incident,he has explored many other similar dreamsunder hypnotic regression and discoveredthat they were based on true events.

Case four: BethBeth, of Florida, has been having ex-

tensive UFO experiences all her life . Shehas had many conscious sightings andpartial recall of abductions. Some of therecall of her abductions comes to her indreams. One of these dreams revealedthe immersion pool.

As the report on the case says, "In adifferent dream, Beth was made to im-merse in 'a heavy l iqu id ' and was sur-prised to find that she could breathe in it.This scenario is so familiar now that it isoften included in the list of most frequently

reported abduction events."Case five: Mike Evans

In my own research, I have only runacross this type of case once. This par-ticular case involves a gentleman who hasexperienced numerous onboard UFO ex-periences . Starting from early childhoodto the present, Evans has experienced aseries of contacts with at least two dif-ferent types of ETs.

He has undertaken a long journey to

recall what has happened to him, usingthe method of regressive hypnosis. Re-cently he recalled an unusual memory ofbeing underwater in a strange environ-ment.

What was most significant for him wasthat he remembered being able to breatheunderwater. "I had the impression, thethought, that I could breathe underwater, that I've done it before. I remembered, Iremember, breathing underwater. It wasin like a glass aquarium.

"I have connected that to my UFO ex-periences because that's the only place I

had the opportunity to be placed in a glassaquarium."

Evans feels certain that this is a realmemory of something that happened tohim, and he was surprised to find that oth-ers report simila r experiences. His caseis particularly credible, as it is supportedby considerable physical evidence andmultip le eyewitnesses.

ConclusionsWhile the number of these cases con-

tinues to grow, our understanding of themremains limited. Why are people beingimmersed in strange liquids? What rea-son could the aliens possibly have to per-form these bizarre experiments?

    Burleson's MarilynMonroe book to be

published in BrazilUFOs and the Murder of Marilyn

    Monroe by Dr. Don Burleson,

MUFON State Director for NewMexico, has been translated into aPortuguese edition ( O V N I s E OASSASSINATO DE MARILYNMONROE) that will published inBrazil in July by a company downthere called Editora MW.

Says Burleson, "With the high in-terest in UFOs in Brazil, the bookshould do pretty well there."

    July 2004 MUFON Journal

At this point, we can only speculateOne theory could be that the pools arsome type of sanitation device, much likea bath. However, there is no real evidencto support this.

Betty Andreasson experienced a similar episode during one of her abductionsThe ETs placed her in a strange pool oliquid, although she was not made to

breathe in the fluid. Betty feels that thpurpose may have been to protect hefrom possible gravitational forces causeby the movement of the UFO.

But the bizarre nature of most of thbreathing pool accounts seems to indicatthat something more is involved.

Yet another possibility is that they arattempting to cure or affect the humanbody in some way. Arguing against thitheory is that nobody has reported anyphysical aftereffects as a result of beingimmersed.

Another theory that has been raised b

abductees is that the reason could be psychological. Some procedures aboarUFOs involve the testing of human emotions. It could be that the aliens are attempting to r e sea rch /a f fec t the humanfear response.

Interestingly, human beings have alsconducted experiments with breathablliquids. In 1965, Dr. Leland Clark of thMedical College of Alabama pioneeredexperiments keeping mice alive underwater for up to 20 hours. Obviously, however, this was not normal water. The liquids are actually known a

perfluorocarbons (PFCs).Dr. Ron Holtz is a solid-state physicis

who has noticed a strong relationship between UFO breathing pools and PFCsWrites Dr. Holtz, "Perfluorocarbons arbasically hydrocarbons with some of thehydrogen replaced by fluorine. They havethe property that large amounts of oxygen and other gases can be dissolved inthe liquid. Some PFCs can hold as muchas 65% oxygen, three times the concentration of oxygen in air."

Some limited experiments with PFChave also been done with humans. I1989, an infant girl was born at SainChristopher's Hospital for Children inPhiladelphia. She was expected to diebecause she was born 28 weeks premature and had badly damaged lungs. Whendoctors expected that her death was imminent, the child was treated withperfluorocarbons. Incredibly, her condition improved and she lived another 19hours.

Dr. Holtz also notes another importanpeculiari ty associated wi th PFCs. As hwrites, "Another property o

    Page 1

    13/25

perf luorocarbons that is of great techno-logical significance, but that is not as gen-erally known, is their property of lowsurface tension. That is, PFCs wet sur-faces readily, unlike water which tends toform droplets.

"This property is what allows thebreathing liquids to fill the lungs com-pletely. This wett ing property is also con-sistent with the 'brea thing pool ' experi-ences discu ssed by Jacobs. One

experiencer reported that, after leaving thepool, the liquid formed a film on the bodywhich had to be wiped off. Because ofthe breathabi l i ty of the 'breathing pool 'liquid, and its wetting property, it seemsinescapable that this liquid is, in fact, aperf luorocarbon."

Which brings us to a final theory toexplain these accounts. Dr. Holtz says,"The wetting property of PFCs makesthem particularly suitable for an immer-sion media for high precision volume mea-surements.

"If a person is immersed in water withthe intention of determining the volumeof body tissue, there is an error in the mea-surement caused by the fact that the lungsare still fu ll of air; the o nly way to elim i-nate this source of error would be to to-tally collapse the lungs, which would killthe subject, or to replace the air withbreathable liquid .

"The 'breathing pool' experience. . . isentirely consistent with high precisionbody tissue volume measurement of thetype jus t discussed. This explanation fitsvery well, and could be interpreted as sup-

porting the reality of the experience."Whatever the real reason behind theseaccounts, one thing is clear: UFO occu-pants maintain a deep interest and exten-sive knowledge of the human body. Un tilwe learn more about these rare types ofencounters, the UFO immersion pools willremain another tantalizing mystery.Sources

    Changes ordered in NASA

"not a no confidence vote"By Brian Berger and Lon Rains

    Space News

    Edward C. (Pete) Aldridge, chairman

of the President's Commission on Imple-mentation of United States Space Explo-ration Policy, said a recent report callingfor changes at NASA is "not a vote of noconfidence" in NASA, but a blueprint forthe changes the space agency must embraceif it is to take maximum advantage of theclearest presiden tial directive it has beengiven in decades.

Aldridge said the commission was con-vinced that NASA headquarters and theagency's field centers throughout the coun-try must be streamlined and operated withmodern business management practices.

"Changing the cultural nature of peoplewi ll take a little longer time, but that's whatwe are proposing to do," Aldridge said."This is a tremendous thing for N A S A . Foryears they didn't have a direction that'sbeen clearly articulated by the President."

The c om m is s ion ' s 60-page report, "AJourney to Inspire, Innovate, and Dis-cover," recommends a significant reduc-tion in the number of departments at NASAheadquarters, and restructuring theagency's field centers in the mold of theJet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena,CA, which is run for NASA by the Cali-

fornia Institute of Technology. The commission also recommended the

creation of a White House office to over-see all of the government's involvement inspace, includ ing civ il, military, and com-mercial space issues.

The last time such an office existed wasduring the administration of the currentpresident's father, George H.W. Bush. From 1989 to 1992 Vice-president DanQuayle oversaw the White House NationalSpace Council, a concept that had also beenused during the Eisenhower administrationwhen NASA was created.

John Logsdon, director of the SpacePolicy Institute at George WashingtonUniversity, said the commission's pro-posal, if adopted by NASA and approvedby Congress and the White House, wouldconstitute "the most radical transformationof how NASA does business since NASAwas created."

Logsdon said the most radical of thecommission's recommendations was theproposal to transform NASA field centersinto Federally Funded Research and De-

    M U F O N UFO Journal

    v e l o p m e n t Centers (FFRDCs). He ac-knowledged that there would likely be re-sistance to that idea inside NASA and in

the Congress."I think it is going to be a hard row to

plow," said Logsdon, who was a memberof the Columbia Accident InvestigationBoard.

Nevertheless, the report's recommenda-tions were not as radical as some steps thathad been recommended during thecommission's public hearings, such asclosing some NASA facilities by us ing thesame Base Realignment and Closure pro-cess that the Pentagon has used to closemilitary bases.

"If we put into our report that NASA

should undertake a base realignment andclosure activity, the report would have beenburned on the first day," Aldridge said.

Aldridge said he does not expect thetransition to FFRDCs to happen rightaway, and also acknowledged that it wouldtake time, particularly to counter politicalresistance.

Bush's space initiative:Return the space shuttle to flight, and

fulfill the U.S. commitment to the Interna-tional Space Station.

Halt most work on the space station by2010, confining the American role there

to studying health effects ofspaceflight.Retire the space shuttle fleet around the

same time.Increase use of robotic explorers.Start developing a new "Crew Explo-

ration Vehicle" for venturing beyondEarth's orbit; test it by 2008 and launchits first mission by 2014. Use it to shuttleastronauts to the space station.

Send unmanned probes to the moon by2008, with humans landing between 2015and 2020.

Establish a long-term presence on themoon to serve as a launch ing area for hu-

man missions to Mars and beyond.Bush would launch his plan by increas-

ing NASA spending by a total of $1 bil-lion over five years, and by shifting $1 1billion from existing space spending to-ward his priorities.

NASA spending would still representless than 1 percent of the total federal bud-get.

Aldridge said NASA needs to trust theprivate sector to launch supplies to thespace station.

"The stationary tree showed that thobject was not only tacking across thwind, but "skipping" side to side, and apparently up and down as well. I am reminded of Kenneth Arnold's 1947 de

Ronald Reagan had a longtime interestin UFOs. He and Nancy were expected ata casual dinner party with friends in Hol-

lywood whe n they were first married, andshowed up a half hour later quite upset. They stated that they had seen a UFOcoming down the coast.

In 1974, as Califo rnia governor, Reaganstated, "I was in a plane last week when Ilooked out the window and saw this whitelight. It was zigzagging around. I went upto the pilot and said, 'Have you ever seenanything like that?'

He was shocked, and he said, 'Nope.'And I said to him, 'Le t ' s follow it!' Wefollowed it for several minutes. It was abright white light. We followed it toBakersf ield , and all of a sudden to our ut-ter amazement it went straight up into theheavens."

Reagan, told reporter Norman C. Mi llarabout the UFO he had seen, and that hiswife and he had done personal researchon UFOs and had uncovered referencesto UFOs in Egyptian hieroglyphics.

When he became President he fre-quently discussed UFOs with his staff, received numerous reports on sightings, and made frequent references to UFOs inhis speeches.

It is interesting that his counterpart inthe Soviet Union also had an interest inUFOs. In May, 1990, shortly before thefall of the Soviet Union, Gorbachev madea direct statement about UFOs:

"The phenomenon of UFOs does ex-ist," he stated, "and it must be treated se-riously."

chology from the University of Hawaii,Michael could easily settle into a moremundane existence, but his Ashland, OR,home seems to be little more than a basefor exploration as he moves around theglobe in search of more fodder for his in-formative books.

It's not as t hou g h he has neve r stayedin one place, however. He spent two yearsin Europe making good use of his academiccredentials by teaching at a branch of the

University of Maryland. He has also found a way to work psy-chology into his travel activities, probingthe innermost thoughts of more than 1,100travelers for an upcoming book on the psy-chology of travel.

Michael has also found time to set upphoto safaris in Africa, but says he willnot be doing any more unt il aft er he sellshis ranch.

That old Ph.D. in psychology alsocomes in han dy in his work with M U F O Nas a consul tant in social psychology.

In this capacity he is forced to ponderdeep topics, and come up with such con-clusions as, "I think a logical th ing to lookat is the possible relations hip between hu-mans and other entities. I think in the fu-ture there may be more acceptance of theidea that there are entities among us."

Mike has been especially interested inthis particular element of ufology sincewhat he calls his most unusual "UFO"case, which occurred in Sacramento, CA,in 1971.

"This was an intrig uing case involvinga possible hybrid," he says, grinning mis-

Michael's UFO background also in-cludes work wi th the old APRO organiza-tion, as well as a stint as MUFON StateDirector for Hawaii.

As Ambassador-at-Large for MUFON,he discusses UFO topics with ind ivi du alsaround the globe, attends meetings, andoccasionally makes presentations, such asat San Marino.

"The ambassador role has opened a lotof doors for me all over the world," he ex-plains, but he says his favorite place formeeting other ufologists is right here in theU.S.-at Lou Par i sh ' s Ozark UFO Confer-ence in Eureka Springs, AR.

"It gives everyone a chance to interactwith each other and with the speakers," hesays. "You see some of the same peopleevery year, which is n ice, but you also seenew people as well. It's a small , isolatedsetting, and the informality of the Lone StarBar [which is set up every year by confer-ence participants from you can guesswhere] is also a great place to comparenotes and argue the issues."

Besides aliens among us, what UFOtopics interest him the most? "Well, I'mintrigue d by the R a m e y memo and the at-tempts to decipher it-sort of serendipityand a chance role for science," he explains."I like d the idea of the Disc losure Project,

    Magnetism, science,

and a floating hamsterIn 1842 the Rev. Samuel Earnshaw pub-lished his famous theorem which estab-lished mathemat ical ly that one magnet can-not be floated over another, and scientistsoperated on that princip le for a century.

However, Roy Harrigan apparentlynever realized that it cou ldn't be done, sohe invented a spinn ing top hovering over amagnetic base and patented the device.

Harrigan showed that precession-therotation of a spinning ob ject's axis of spin-creates an islan d of stability in a w ay thatdoes not v io la te Earn sh aw's theorem, butwhich scientists only recently discovered.

As Theodore Gray points out in the Feb.,2004, Popular Science, there is a secondexception to E a r n s h a w ' s theorem: diamag-netism, which is a repulsive magnetic forceexhibited by all materials in varying de-grees in the presence o f a magnetic field.

For example, a magnet can be floatedover a superconducting ceramic disc withvirtuall y no concern for stabil ity. Re-searches have successfully levitated chipsof graphite, water droplets, and even ahamster named Tisha.

Mass media now unfairly relegate astronautEdgar Mitchell to role of eccentric uncle

By Richard M. DolanNot long ago, Apollo 14 astronaut Dr.

Edgar Mitchell made an amazing statementconcerning the possession of alien bodiesby a secret group of "insiders."In this short piece, I contrast that state-ment wi th the astonishin gly cavalier treat-ment of this cla im by the mainstr eam me-dia. The end result trivializes an impor-tant issue.

A few months ago, Apollo 14 astronautDr. Edgar Mitch ell made an extraordinarystatement while speaking to a group ofpeople. In attendance was Waveney AnnMoore, a journalist for the St. PetersburgTimes of Florida (article attached below).

At deep levels within the U.S. nationalsecurity establishment, said Mitche ll, sci-entists are in possession of alien bodies, and have been stu dying the m in secrecy.

Now, this kind of thing has been saidbefore, of course. Anyo ne w ith the s l i g h t -est interest in the topic ofUFOs has en-countered such a claim many times. Andtalk is cheap. Anyone can make such aclaim.

But with Dr. Mitchell, you have to lookat things a little differently . Here is a manwho wa lked on the Moon. Only 12 peoplehave ever done that, and not all of themare alive today.

He is also a Navy man, has a Ph.D.,and possesses a lifetime of connectionswit hin the A merican nationa l security ap-paratus-connections that very few peoplehave had an opportunity to develop. Hisexperiences make him unusually well-qualified to comment on this particulartopic.

So when Edgar Mitchell says thatAmerican na tional security personnel pos-sess alien bodies (and presumably alientechnology), that's a very interesting thing. If I were in attendance at such a gathering, the first question ou t of my mou th wo uldbe, "On wh at basis, sir, do you ma ke sucha statement?"

It's only reasonable to ask. And I haveno doubt that Edgar Mitchell w ould gladlyhave offered an answer.

But if Ms. Moore asked him anythingat all, her article left no hint. Indeed, shequoted merely a single sentence of any rel-evance, and even that appears to have beensignificantly edited.

    July 2004

    Dr. Edgar Mitchell

On the other hand, she managed to workthe word "cabal" into her article. And, ohyes, she wrote about Mitc hell 's religiousupbringing (relevance?) and focused (to theextent possible in such a brief piece) onissues of "consciousness" a nd "inter-con-nectedness."

You can see where this is heading.Fringe City.

Apparently, the only individual Ms.Moore found worthy of quoting was a self-described "transformational healer" (nodoubt wearing a pyramid on her head) whoblithe ly commented on how "delightful" itwas that a man of Dr. Mitchell's staturewas "more open than ever" to discussingthe topic of life in the univ erse.

The effect of the article was, withoutquestion, to trivialize both Dr. Mitchell andhis statement.

One suspects that in such ignorant jour-

nalistic circles Edgar Mitchell appears likea rich, eccentric uncle wh o does whateverhe wants because he's basically harmless, and, after all, you like him and don't wantto hurt his feelings.

On th e other hand, there is a darker sideto this. When someone of his stature istreated, again and again, in such a disre-spectful manner, then we can see that themainstream media is never going to dealwith the topic of UFOs and ETs in an even-handed way.

    M U F O N UFO Journal

For many years, Edgar Mitchell ha

taken his stand on the matter of UFOextraterrestrial intelligence, an d government secrecy. He has at every opportunittaken the hig h road, the honorable road, ano sma ll risk to his personal reputation.

And he is te lling us that he knows forfact that secret inside rs are stud ying aliebodies. That is a he ll of a stateme nt.

Unfo rtunate ly, it is one that Ms. Moorwas clearly not capable of dealing withCou ld her ina bility be part of a grand conspiracy? Or everyday ordinary incompetence? Or simply the resu lt of some du meditor who hacked out all the good parts

Howe ver you slice it, add it to the lonlist of articles posing as news regardinthe topic of UFOs that o nly serves to keethis topic foreve r marginalize d and emaculated.

    The article in question follows:

By Waveney Ann MooreSt. Petersburg Times, FL, Feb. 18,200ST. PETERSBURG - Astronaut: We'v

had visitors. The sixth man to wal k on thMoon shares his unconv entional views.

The aliens have landed. Thus declared Apollo 14 astronau

Edgar Mitchell on Saturday to more tha200 admirers."A few insid ers know the truth . . . an

are studying t he bodies that have been dicovered," said Mitchel l, who was the sixtman to walk on the Moon.

Mitchell, who land ed on the Moon witAlan B. Shepard, said a "cabal" of insiders stopped briefing presidents about extraterrestrials after President Kennedy.

For those who might consider his statements farfetched, M itchell, who has a dotorate in science from the MassachusettInstitute of Technology, noted that 30 year

ago it was accepted that man was alone ithe universe. Few people believe that nowhe said.

Besides aliens, Mitchell talked aboubeing freed of prostate cancer during healing ceremony and his epiphany w hilreturnin g from the Moon.

On its Web site, the Calif orni a organi-zation says it conducts and sponsors "lead-ing-edge research into the potent ials andpowers of consciousness" and that it ex-plores "phenomena that do not necessar-ily fit conventional scientific models, while

The site also states that IONS, as it isknown by members, is not a spiritua l sect, political action group or single-cause in-stitute.

Saturday afternoon, dozens of peoplemade their way through rain to hearMitchell and IONS president James O'Dea speak at the Heritage Holida y Inn indown town St. Petersburg.
